In an interview with NBC Washington, NFL sensation Robert Griffin III ("RG3") told WRC-TV sports reporter Dan Hellie that his biggest fear coming to Washington, D.C. to be an NFL quarterback was God.
Hellie asked the Washington Redskins' star quarterback, "Everybody fears something. What was your biggest fear coming to Washington, D.C., to be an NFL quarterback?
"You try not to fear too many things. I fear God," Griffin responded.
"RG3" also told Hellie that he fears his parents saying, "you don't want to let people down, and some would say that's pressure, but I didn't fear it.
"I just wanted people to know that I don't plan on letting you guys down and I don't want to let anybody down, so that's why I work hard. That's why I believe in myself and I trust myself when I'm out there on the field."
Robert Griffin III was selected by the Redskins in the second pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. Prior to the draft, Griffin played college football at Baylor University and won the Heisman Trophy in 2011.
I will never fear God. As God is Love and His perfect Love casts out all fear.

Yes, we are to love God, who is Himself Love.
But we are also told to fear Him.
Contradiction? No. But you really need to dig into the biblical meaning of “fear” in order to understand that ...

Your problem is with scripture. As noted above "The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom" is a direct quote from the Psalms, Proverbs and the book of Ecclesiastes.
This is what Galatians 5 is about:
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
The Law is not removed, not one dot of it. But you follow the Law out of Love, not out of fear of retribution or abandonment.

While the biblical meaning is larger than the traditional, contemporary meaning is does include the traditional, contemporary meaning.

In the third grade, preparing for Confirmation, I learned that ‘Fear of the Lord’ was fearing to do anything to injure my relationship with God.
I will check each of them. I expect the original Greek or Hebrew word translates to “Reverence” rather than fear.
You cannot discard Scripture passages that you don’t like. Scripture says plainly:
“You who fear the Lord, praise him!”
“The Lord confides in those who fear him”
“Let all the earth fear the Lord”
“For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.”
“My flesh trembles in fear of you; I stand in awe of your laws.”
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge”
“To fear the Lord is to hate evil”
“A wise man fears the Lord and shuns evil”
“Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord a man avoids evil.”
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
... and so on ...
It appears contradictory to both love and fear the Lord. But wrestle with this tension, rather than discard it.

In Revelation, John was so awestruck at Jesus's appearance that he fell at His feet "as one dead". THAT is what RG3 is talking about.

Fear. Claustrophobia...fear of closed, small spaced. ____phobic...fear of whatever.

In the Hebrew...its yir'âh. That is also fear...mixed with reverence....but not just reverence alone.

Shouldn’t you both be using the same meaning? Sounds like the meaning of fear is relative to the person’s reference.

Fear of God is a basic religious foundation....first, you fear...and once God has your attention, then you love and respect, and obey....

The original word translated as “fear” in each of the scriptures you noted can be translated as “reverence.” Look it up.
Fear, like the doubt in Peter when he was walking on the water, will cause one to sink away from God.
In demons it is the fear of God that causes them to run. Demons had to obey Jesus out of fear as they thought His Love would kill them, just as the eunuchs were killed when they touched the ark of the covenant. If you fear God, then there must be a demon in you that creates the fear! Luke 8:37 Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them; for they were seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and returned.
I have no fear of God and I never will as fear would cause me to run from, rather than embrace God.
Fear shuts down the heart, Love opens the heart. I prefer to be open and allow the Holy Spirit to flow into me.

Fear of the Lord is a good starting point but RG III also needs to fear the legacy of Vinnie Cerrato i.e. the fact that the deadskins don’t have anything much resembling an offensive line and have ruined two other franchise QBs over the last dozen years or so. If he’s very lucky he can hope to stay healthy until Shnahan and Bruce Allen can get a real line in front of him and one or two decent receivers.

Oh, I am quite familiar with the Hebrew word "yir'ah" (yr'h) and while reverance is an included aspect it is still properly translated as fear and included fear as traditionally understood. See: Ex 20:20 when Moses tells the scared people "Do not fear" - same word. This is why it is translated as fear in the KJV, NIV, ESV, NASB and RSV. I imagine the same is true with the Catholic translations also but I'm not really as well read in DR or NAB as I am in the others.
That is NT and the quotes everyone has been referring to are OT. Even the NT word you cite, Fear is the primary meaning and reverance is a secondary meaning thus, the number "2" in your lexicon cite. You conveniently the the "1" primary meaning out.
