Hey Andrew, maybe you should ease up on the Anti-Fracking mumbo jumbo on the western side of the state.

Drinking birds!
Thousands of hyper scale drinking birds generating ‘free’ power each time they bob up/down!

With only a few minor technical problems to solve ‘free’ power day and night!

“Get ready to freeze in the dark, New York voters, when the idiot environazi/Rat cabal that you sent to Albany and DC arbitrarily shuts down almost 30% of your electrical capacity. Elections have consequences, dopes.”

They’ll blame the rate increases on greedy corporations and Republicans. This plant is about 15 miles NE of me, never had a problem with it. There are however some hysterical types over in NY who live near it and think it’s going to blow up or something, and that it’s causing cancer.

Your analysis is excellent. But facts make no difference to True Believers. Using its successful tool of incrementalism, the hard Left (which counts Cuomo as a member) will create a power shortage, increase prices astronomically and get away with blaming it on “Republican greed and obstructionism.” Just wait and watch.

The nukes in general are the safest power plants because of all the redundant safeguards. They are built for overkill. Fukishima OTOH disregarded recommended & required GE bulletins. Fukishima and Chernobyl are the exceptions because they didn’t follow protocol.

Cuomo actually has a moment of sanity. I never thought that I would see the day.

This is a dangerous situation and they need to shut that nuclear power plant down immediately, not wait for two years. another storm, earthquake, freak accident, global warming and NY will be toast, literally. and cuomo will be responsible. he knew it was dangerous and he let it continue anyway.

Obama is blocking coal genrated power plants and shutting them down.

I believe that this is a winnning plan for the Democrats. Supoort them on this. Build windmills (watch the fun)

The big question is this — WHAT DO THEY REPLACE INDIAN POINT WITH ?

Well, silly, the smart liberals have some double secret alternative energy supply they’ve been waiting to spring on their globe. Algore only needs global energy taxes and a carbon trading scheme to fund his alternative energy invention.

I’m sure the socialists will fix any shortages they cause. : (

Same here in CT. I have friend who live within a few miles of Millstone and doesn’t care. However some people think it will turn into a mushroom cloud any second now.

I once swam off a beach withing sight of Millstone. Strangely, no effects or three eyed fish spotted.

Is there even a possibility of a 9.2 earthquake at Indian Point?

Yes. http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/~sykes/pages/EqCatNYC-Phil.html

It will happen. Someday. It has happened in the past. The Ramapo fault is active, just had minor trembler in mid-November.

This is the situation, with a single change in Federal law, the Indian Point Plant will not gain reapproval, all that is needed is a change in one regulation regarding fault lines:

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission only considers the threat of earthquakes or terrorism during initial licensing hearings and does not revisit the issue during relicensing.
http://old.gothamgazette.com/article/iotw/20080929/200/2660

ConEd cut corners building the plant, specifically cut corners in earthquake resistance superstructures. To save a buck. Back in the design phase in 1960’s.

Vermont tried to shut down Vermont Yankee, but failed.

Oh, but Maine is so much smarter.

They didn't fail, and now we have among the most expensive power rates in the US.
