The number of white and Indian South African youth wishing to leave the country has increased, a survey by Pondering Panda revealed on Wednesday.
Spokeswoman Shirley Wakefield said 2606 respondents aged between 18 and 34 participated in the survey, where they were asked if they wanted to live in the country for good or if they wished to live in another country.
"Fifty-six percent of whites, and 53% of Indians expressed the desire to emigrate, far higher than black respondents with 33%, and coloureds at 43%," said Wakefield in a statement.
The company said the overall number of youths who wished to leave the country rose from 25% three months ago to 36% in November.
"The findings of our latest survey are alarming. In only three months, the number of young South Africans wanting to emigrate has increased by nearly 50%," said Wakefield.
She said the survey showed that those who wanted to leave the most were mostly young people whose skills were desperately needed in the country.
"The country most attractive to respondents was the United States, with Australia also being attractive to whites, in particular," said Wakefield.
The survey was conducted via cellphones and was conducted from November 9 to 11.

I’ve spoken with a few people from SA over the years. Every one of them talks about getting the visa to leave as if it was a prize that they (or their family) fought hard to win.

You betcha. We had economists surveying the shantytowns in Pretoria during the Sustainability Conference back in 2003.
The good citizens there wanted two things:
1. Private property.
2. The rule of law.
I would love to see the residents of Pretoria granted citizenship to the US.
I guarantee that if you placed these South Africans in Detroit, that that craphole city will be cleaned out within two years maximum. I love the Pretoria black and Indian citizens.
I would trade American inner city blacks one-for-one with Pretoria blacks.

I believe the black ruling class wants to run a legitimate, functioning country, and for a long time they were determined to allow the whites to keep a privileged place in the country (to avoid their flight to other “Anglo” countries).
