Do you recall the furor surrounding Prudhommes Lost Cajun Kitchen, a Pennsylvania-based restaurant, this past summer? The establishment has been offering a 10 percent discount for individuals who bring in a church bulletin on Sundays. Citing this action as discriminatory, John Wolff, a local atheist, filed a complaint with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC). Now, the restaurant will be forced to offer discounts to any individual who brings in a pamphlet involving religious faith including atheism.
To continue offering its discount, Prudhommes Lost Cajun Kitchen must now honor literature that comes from any religious institution, The Christian Post reports. This includes secular bulletins from the Freedom From Religion Foundation, an atheist activist non-profit, and faith-based documents pertaining to Judaism, Islam and other religions on Sundays.
A one-line statement from the state human relations commission summarized these ideals: Respondent will continue to give a discount for any bulletin from any group oriented around the subject of religious faith, including publications from the Freedom From Religion Foundation, as long as they maintain the Sunday discount program.

Why don’t the athiests just go to the church and get the bulletin?
When did private individuals lose the right to discriminate?
That is insane.
Lots of businesses offer discounts and special deals for certain things. I guess its all illegal now?
There was a place giving discounts those who said they voted... have they been shut down for descriminating too??
(When did private individuals lose the right to discriminate?)
You obviously didn’t get the memo. When liberals discriminate, it’s called “freedom of choice”. When conservatives do it, it’s “discrimination”.
Restaurants are a "public accommodation." Ever since the Civil Rights acts of the 60's. Remember the "lunch counter" sit-ins? No, maybe you don't.
I’d tell the “gov’t commission” to take a flying freak at a rolling donut!
“Drinks free to Ladies on Wednesday!”
“Mens shirts laundered:$2
Women’s shirts laundered $4.”
“Free admission to children”(obviously discriminating to single people!!!)
Many Restaurants and clubs have ladies night and give free drinks to ladies. Restaurants also have kids eat free nights.
Remember when that meant something.
Tell the judge to shove it up his smelly Obama.
Even this geek who has no intellectual respect for the joke that is our legal system, thinks this should mean war.
How about we allow some Hell’s Angels to guard the doors.
They have infinitely more class and morals than that idiot atheist and we will all enjoy what they do to that Obamahole.
Senior discount? Ladies night? Student discount? Military discount? Employee discounts?
Don’t they all discriminate against against those who are not in those categories? So what. It is a business decision by the seller.
From what I understand, the complainer has never been to the restaurant. Why does he even have legal standing to file the complaint? What was he denied?
Whatever happened to the concept of "We reserve the right to refuse service."
Athiests can get the discount also - all they need to do is bring in a church bulletin. I guess the government’s fear is that the atheist, in obtaining a bulletin, might hear the word of God.
lol,, the athiest sued the people preparing his food. Thats bright,, very trusting of him!
At our store we offer 10% discount to active duty military & veterans.
I would like to invite code pinko or an organization like it to come protest.
I will furnish our location & other particulars upon their request.
What if they spit in the atheists food?
The restaurant can advertise with the Church offering a 10% discount.
Are you kidding!? Churches, even the sight of the cross, causes internal bleeding in atheists as well as crippling migraines and pulmonary edema. They really are a cursed people.
What’s wrong with you all? Don’t you see this was the best outcome? Atheist can get “equal” by getting a current bulletin and presenting it on Sunday - just like everyone else. That’s as “equal” as it gets. Just think. How many Atheists go to some kind of atheist secular church? None. But the Judge gave them the same “equal” opportunity.
How about Hebrews, Moslems, Hindu, et al.? Show up to the resturant on Sunday and get your “equal” opportunity 10% discount. I think that Justice was more than fair. The resturant owners did this to get more customers on slow days. If it gets them more customers, they win! What a great outcome.
The restaurant can also participate in fund raisers of its choice in which coupons are provided as part of the fund raiser.
That would be a great tag line.
Well, then, no free meal. Even the soup nazi was allowed this much.
Thou shall make no law....
I guess Senior discounts are descriminatory too
Yes, along with early bird specials since many are forced to work during those hours.
If an atheist wants to bring in a current church bulletin by all means give them the discount. They might get some positive exposure acquiring it. Or, atheists can estabish their own church. Oh, wait a minute, they’ve already done that, they can just show a university ID card.
“Early Bird” specials discriminate against the welfare class who sleep until noon!
This is disgusting!
What about coupons? Why should only the shoppers that remember to bring coupons get the discount?
If a person allergic to seafood can only get oysters at an oyster bar, will they be able to force the oyster bar to serve other food?
Where has our freedom gone?
How do we get it back?

Columbia is outside Harrisburg, on the Susquehanna (I had to look it up).
Should the restaurant be allowed to not serve blacks or Jews or Christians or short people?
When Brown vs. Topeka was written.
Sure. And watch them lose money and go bankrupt too
Well, their problem, then, no discounted meal. Even the soup nazi was allowed this much.
The Minor League Baseball team, the Bowie Baysox, had a similar offer for people attending their games could get a family discount if they brought in their Sunday Church bulletin for the day.
A Jewish group started to protest until they discovered that the Baysox would gladly accept any dated publication from a synagogue the same way. Their representative said they were quite pleased with the accommodation.
Then some atheist group announced they were going to present a pamphlet announcing one of their meetings at the ball park and would sue if turned away. The gate keepers at the Baysox game gladly accepted it and game them their discount.
The atheist group was FURIOUS! A local TV news reporter interviewed their spokesman who could only repeat that this was religious discrimination. The reporter really ticked him off by pushing for him to explain how that could be if they were given the same discount. Their representative’s response had to be bleeped before he stalked off.
The atheists don’t want the same treatment; they want to dictate what kind of treatment is allowed!
I hope the Restaurant goes the same route as the Baysox.
The restaurant should offer the atheist 15 per cent vs the 10 per cent offered for the church members...not because I hate church folk but rather because its a chance to “pour hot coals” on his head.
Narrowly outlawed RACIAL discrimination.
Are you trying to tell me the court ruling outlawed restaurants from discriminating against the bare footed and shirt less?
“ow, the restaurant will be forced to offer discounts to any individual who brings in a pamphlet involving religious faith including atheism.:
Ha! Atheists HATE being told that they have a “faith-based belief system”. If they take in a pamphlet from an atheist organization to get the discount — they’re admitting that it’s a religious organization.
Apples and oranges.
This is the government determining how a business does business. This store policy was no more discriminatory than any of the other policies I mentioned.
It was government regulations and laws that discriminated most blatantly against blacks in Jim Crow America. Congress should have stopped at those -- but they just couldn't resist taking it a tiny step farther.
Now, step outside to have a cigarette. No, not on the sidewalk. Across the street in the park? Are you kidding? In your car? Are there minors in it? It never ends now.
No, actually the relevant parts are (IMO):
Congress shall make no law <...>abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble
as well as
nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation
Since they are bother saying who the owner can favor on his own property as well as tell him how to run his business.
But then again as another mentioned, this is a function of the Civil Rights movement of the 60s. In the interest of getting righting past and present wrong, a lot of rights were trampled.
You have got to remember hat the state of Pennsylvania is controlled by the Democrats, including the judge who issued this order. And you sure as hell won’t find this Democrat judge in any church, period!
It's just a hook to get more butts in the door.
It was the atheist who is being the complete a$$hole. As they have a tendency to be.
