Posted on 12/01/2012 6:34:11 PM PST by MinorityRepublican
It hasnt been a month since Texas lawyer George P. Bush filed to run for state public office, but theres already speculation that, come 2014, the Dubya kinfolk might run against Rick Perry for governor. And he might have a fair shot.
Then again, who wouldnt?
Perry, gaffe champ, embarrassed his deep red state during the 2011-12 Republican presidential primaries. At one point this year, his job approval rating in the Lone Star State dropped to an all-time low at 40 percent three percent lower at the time than President Obamas among Texans. Worse yet, the very same poll showed that 56 percent of registered voters thought Perry shouldnt even bother running in the 2014 gubernatorial race. But he is running, and, since Perry has made his way safely out of the limelight, the governors approval ratings have bumped back up to the mid-50s. For now.
There are already plenty of Texas Republicans gunning for the gubernatorial seat in 2014, and that should be frightening enough for an incumbent who has already been shamed on the national stage (not to mention was nicknamed Crotch in his Texas congress days). But, hey, why not throw the nephew of President George P. Bush in the mix? Former Florida governor Jeb Bush wrote in a fundraising letter earlier this month that he hope[s] you will write a personal check for his boy who is considering [running] for Land Commissioner. But, sources say, George P. has told at least one Texas state senator that he has his eyes on the prize: governor of Texas.

Stay out of da Bushes!!
Great, some one else, who has done nothing but be born, feels entitled.
To replace Perry as Governor is probably not a bad idea. Stay out of da bushes refers to President at least that is my understanding. I don’t think Perry has been been very conservative. George P might even be more so than Mr. Illegal Tuition guy.
I sure hope there are others in the primary.
Perry vs Bush
It's a little early for 2014 politics.
Another Bush in TX? This Texan says “No Thanks”!
This 7th generation Texan likes Governor Goodhair.
Have you ever even been in our state?
Perry should have endorsed Cruz.
Perhaps I should run? I’ll be back in Texas in April.
I like Perry's desire to create a system where it's possible to get a four year college degree without going into heavy debt.
Like his dad, George P. is in favor of amnesty.
You really think he might be "more conservative"?
Also because we don't let the legislators linger. Get in and get out. There will be another session in a couple of years.
Texas will be better run if we can get rid of Dewhurst and Straus.
Elect him to find out whats in him?
Is TX trending Dim because of Mexicans?
You only say that because your family never had to go on the lam, and have a clear record back. ;)
I can say 4 generations for sure... before that? There are stories, but trouble seems to dog our heels. Records get lost. Courthouses burn down...
So why is TX well run if you want to get rid of Perry, Dewhurst and Straus? Is it because you get the legislature out of Austin?
No more Bushes. Enough. Finito
And Dewhurst has done everything to stop conservatives, even if some stuff gets by. He's taking retribution on those that supported Cruz over him for Senate.
The blocking positions are the strong places in Texas government.
I'll do all I can to get rid of Dewhurst and Straus from Texas politics and retire them to their ranches.
Texas would be a much more conservative place without them.
The retards on (in)Sanity Island will have another god to worship
Yes, it is a weak position.. Lt Governor I think has more power as he/she is involved in setting legislative agenda, I think..
NO! No more bushes!!!
I’d like to see Poe or Abbott run.
I like Perry. I think the GOPe wants him out - Texas is doing too good and some from other states expressed interest in moving there.
All the negativity he will have to put up with will not be fun because the MSM will not be on his side.
And just what has “P” done in his life to qualify him to be governor, or to hold any other office for that matter?
STOP IT ALREADY!!! No more Bush! None of them!!
Texas isn't doing well with Governor Goodhair. Texas is doing well because of hard-@$$ grass roots, despite what Dewhurst (GOP-E) and Straus (GOP-E) can do to thwart that.
perry either will not run or be beaten the next time.
he has overstayed his time at the helm
People generally have a hard time understanding that there are no real powerful statewide political offices in Texas. Following reconstruction, the framers of the new constitution recognized that since no politician could be trusted to consistently do good they must all be constrained from doing harm. Power was dispersed in such a manner that no one person could do much by themselves. So far, it has worked out quite well.
George P. is a pro-abortion RINO whose only claim to fame is that he looks Hispanic but has a WASP name.
Individual House members can be somewhat powerful, but as we've seen in the last election, Dewhurst and Straus can level paybacks.
I say no, no no. Never. No.
He ought to run in Florida, if at all. But not Texas. No, never.
Is it getting more difficult for Republicans to win elections or is it pretty much still a given? I have no idea the margin by which Cruz won.
Just to be clear: George P. Bush is not a Natural Born Citizen.
Yes, he should have. But Cruz won anyway. I won't hold this lapse against Perry, and despite the reservations of some on this board, Perry is my kind of 10th Amendment conservative.
Perry will my vote any time he asks for it.
Texas is a well run state mainly to the extent that government stays the heck out of it, and power is widely dispersed and limited.
It's almost impossible to get anything done in Texas government unless EVERYONE really wants it to happen.
It doesn't take many to block a good thing (like Constitutional Carry) that lots of folks want.
From the sounds of it, there are Freepers who are not on his side, either but I don’t understand why. I view him favorably and even supported him at the caucus. I know there are those who cannot forget his gaffes at the debates but I cared more about his record. Hey, what do I know, I never choose the right one at the caucus.
So you don’t like Perry, you don’t like Dewhurst, and you don’t like Straus.
You don’t like much of anyone in Government in Texas do you?
I’ll tell you this, you lose Perry, you are going to get Dewhurst, Straus or Bush. Is that what you are angling for?
Isn’t La Raza Rick liberal enough ?
Now there you go, Johnny - speaking words that are music to my ears.
We don't know who is going to throw their hat into the ring, so the only ones we know about are Bush(maybe) and Perry.
Ping me when someone declares.
I don't cotton to the idea that the office has to go to some pre-declared list of 'who is next'. That's way too GOP-E for me.
I'll vote for Kinky if there isn't a real conservative for the almost useless position of governor.
I'm much more concerned about Lt. Governor and Speaker.
You might want to learn a bit about the man before being so snarky.
His resume is impressive, his education first-rate, his politics conservative. And he served Special Ops in Afghanistan.
We need young men like him.
You are right, I don’t know TX politics but I do know politicians in general. Scum of the earth. They want Perry out and that includes their boy barry. The GOPe will oblige barry. You think grass roots will stop them? Their bully pulpit is the MSM which Perry doesn’t have.
Let’s see if Romney will endorse Perry. NOT! I wonder if Michelle Bachmann found that ‘lady in the audience who told her... (s**t)’. And that’s from his ‘presumed peers’! And the GOPe Bushes have their continual axe to grind, especially momma. For them, it not about TX but power, even though you say Perry has none.
It’s your state, not mine so all the best to TX. Perhaps they are living in the last of their best days.
The Bush boy will run for Land Commissioner and win.
Todd Staples, Ag Commissioner, will run for governor and win. I know Todd Staples and he has a political campaign group second to none and I mean that. He hasn’t lost a race and never will.
He will make a fine Governor. Even if I didn’t like him, he would still win. I helped him with my county when he was running for our state senator and I saw how he wins an election. I don’t think anyone will have a better run campaign. Add to that, he speaks well, is nice looking, has a lovely wife and family. He is a true Texan with a backbone and won’t back down on the issues.
I think this is the time for him to make his move. It’s possible he could run for Lt. Governor, but that would be a waste of time. I haven’t spoken to him so I know nothing. I just know if he runs, the others might as well hang it up now. That is how sure of his strength I am.
Besides, he looks great on a horse so it’s a done deal.
