Crocodile eats boy, 12, as he swims with friends in Australia's second fatal attack within two weeks
Daily Mail ^ | 1 December 2012 | Richard Shears

Today’s attack was a chilling reminder of the day earlier in November when the seven-year-old girl was snatched by a saltwater crocodile 210 miles east of Darwin.

...

Saltwater crocodiles, which can grow up to 25ft and weigh more than a ton, are plentiful in the Northern Territory...

Crocodiles are protected in the Northern Territory and their numbers have increased steadily, resulting in a number of attacks on people,

One man writing to the Northern Territory News today said: ‘This has got to stop – there are too many crocs.

‘Of course we need to use common sense when in the bush, but please let’s have a sensible policy on the crocodile population.’

kumbayah libs will join hands and say the monsters need protecting! Feed the libs to the monsters, then exterminate the monsters!

The same libs would protest if they thought mosquitoes were on the edge of distinction.

You can’t protect stupid people from themselves. They need to be thinned, as well. In these cases the crocs are doing the thinning.

“I am sure the US deer population has a similar coalition demanding the same of the human race.”

There’s more than enough deer out there. At least they aren't carnivores. They can be deadly when they cross roads, especially to motorcyclists.

“Maybe we should address the fact that stupid kids and, more important stupid parents that let kids, swim in waters where these creatures live. Now I am not against hunting them and managing their numbers, but, to wipe out an entire species because stupid humans want to swim where they happen to inhabit?”

Exactamundo!

I grew up in an area overrun with four species of rattlesnakes, and we had water mocassins in some places, and copperheads everywhere.

I didn't grow up with any chil'hood friends who doubted the warnings on snakes!

That's 'cause the doubters jus' didn't grow up.

After President Johnson signed the Civil Rghts Act of 1964 , he was flying over Alabama and saw whites in a boat towing a black man on skis!

Landing the helicopter and talking with the locals about this great display of generosity, it was then explained to LBJ that the local boys were simply trolling for alligators!

I’ve never been to Australia, but I’ve seen a lot of programs about the place. It seems as if every poisonous creature that God made ended up Down Under. I guess dinner at Outback is as close as I’ll ever get now.

Koalas have long, sharp claws, opposable thumbs and will latch onto a predator with tooth and claw, not letting go. They’re not quite as cuddly as people seem to believe. Lethargic most of the time they’re awake, yes, sleeping the majority of the day, yes, but a perturbed koala is not to be trifled with. Their closest relative is the wombat, if that gives you an indication of their nature. Climbing a tree is the way to get away from a PO’ed wombat, they’re burrowers. Koalas are tree dwellers.

Someone on this forum posts goofy things about giving bad coffee to Deer which turns them into Zombie-Deer. I wish I could remember who it was.

“Maybe we should address the fact that stupid kids and, more important stupid parents that let kids, swim in waters where these creatures live.”

So no swimming in Australia then?
You from California or something? Unless you are willing to accept that on half a continent that nobody can swim, your answer is simply wrong. There is nothing wrong in the slightest to kill the living hell out of large numbers of them in areas that the humans want to use.
What is the -actual- argument that if crocs want that stream, that we should just accept it and go away? Explain why the animal has some mystical primacy over humans. Some beaches for swimmers there have shark nets. And some sharks die in them. So what?

They are like swimming versions of rattlers in the west, or pigeons in cities. You couldn’t eradicate the species if you even wanted to.

What happened to a little common sense? Set aside a few rivers rarely used by people, far from population enters and let crocs exist there. Make sure everyone knows. But then vigorously attack them in the areas that people wish to use. Protecting those areas we want would already take a huge effort, and still never achieve absolute safety. So im not sure why we can’t kill them there, and increase safety by a fair amount.
