Teacher's Reward Program Charges Second-Graders for Bathroom Breaks ( Irving - Dallas )
nbc dfw ^ | Nov 30, 2012 | Kevin Cokely

Posted on 12/02/2012 9:11:59 AM PST by george76

The mother of a 7-year-old Irving elementary school student says her son wet his pants in class after his teacher refused to let him use the restroom

...

Cross' son, an honor roll student, needed to go to the bathroom, but he sat back down because he didn’t have any Boyd Bucks, his mother said.

"He tried to hold it as much as he could, but he just couldn’t," Cross said. "He came home from school, and he was crying and really upset."

"Really, that's just unhealthy," Cross said. "I think that she had no concern for the children."

Cross complained to the teacher, but didn’t like the response.

"Originally when I first spoke with the teacher, she was just going to show my son special treatment, but then I said, 'That's just not good enough. I need for you to stop this for all the children,'" she said.

Public schools are designed to prepare kids to work on (non-existent) assembly lines: two 10-minutes breaks per day, on their schedule, not your body’s. If you don’t want your kid to be an assembly line worker, don’t send him to public school. If you do, send him dehydrated.

The woman should do some research. She has grounds to sue and make a nice chunk of money. My daughter developed a urinary tract infection the first year she attended public school at the age of 10. I discovered that the teacher wouldn’t allow the children restroom breaks unless they did a math problem. As an RN who’d worked in a regional Pediatric hospital, I was livid. I put together some documentation on lawsuits won by parents and what the medical community had to say about denying bathroom breaks. I gave the documentation to the principal. The practiced stopped immediately. Because I’m a Christian, I couldn’t in good conscience take the school district to the cleaners and destroy lives just because they were ignorant.

While an admirable character trait, that is an example of why conservatives are losing against the left. The left fights like this is war to be won by any means and the right tries to fight by the equivalent of Robert's Rules of order.

The mother should publicize the teacher’s name, as well as insist that her son be removed from her classroom — better yet removed from the school. The kid needs a fresh start somewhere else.

What would happen to a parent or day care provider if they kept a child confined to the point of involuntarily urinating in his pants, especially in full view of other children.?

Hm?....Would the child welfare workers be at that parent or day care worker’s door?

Teachers and principals should be held to the **same** standards of child safety and physical and emotional treatment of children as is expected of parents. If they cross the bounds considered reasonable for parents, then these teachers and principals should have department of child welfare workers and armed police knocking on their office doors.

By the way, teachers, principals, and superintendents do have malpractice insurance. Where are the” meaner than junk a yard dog” class action attorneys when needed?

Government schools are child abuse!

1) They are godless in their worldview. The children who attend will learn to think godlessly. They must just to cooperate in the godless classroom. How could it be otherwise?

2) They risk learning to be comfortable with socialism. Government schools are the very definition of a socialist-funded, single-payer, and compulsory use entitlement. They risk learning that a voting mob that is powerful enough to give them tuition-free schooling is powerful enough to give them lots of “free stuff, force them to pay for it, and force them to use it.

3) All government schools suppress every First Amendment Right.( speech, press, assembly, free exercise of religion, and all government schools teach the religion of atheism). All schools must just to maintain safety and order and all schools have a non-neutral religious worldview. However....When government does this the child risks learning to be comfortable with the government suppressing his God-given rights.

4) Government schools are compulsory for all children whose parents can't afford the jizya to ransom their child by way of home or private schooling. Children attending government schools risk learning to be comfortable with government compulsion.

By withholding just and righteous consequences from ignorant and willfully abusive teachers other children are endangered.

Two sides to the issue, though it looks like the teacher was wrong in this case.

I have seen the problems caused by rigid teachers who don’t use common sense or compassion for issues like this.

I’ve also been on the other side as a Sunday School teacher. Nearly every kid in my 5th grade class “needed” to go to the bathroom every week during a one hour class. I sent a note home to the parents telling them that either the kids were making a game out of this and needed to discuss it with his/her parents or else that they needed to take their kids to the bathroom before Sunday School. The situation improved considerably after that.

Don’t just dump on public schools. I had two incidents in Catholic school which taught me never to send my kids to private school. Once, I was little and couldn’t get a snap on my pants undone and the nun said her hands were cold wan walked away. I peed my pants and they made me go the rest of the day in nothing but underwear. Not even my shirt. A couple years later, I was coming down with chicken pox and needed to throw up. That nun wouldn’t let me go to the restroom so I held it as long as I could but upchucked on my desk. She made me sit at my desk until the end of school. When I came back to school a few days later, she told me I had to clean my desk. Sick hateful nuns.

Amen to that. Why do people continue to send their kids to the government schools? I used to think Americans would not tolerate the kind of slavish conditions that the Soviet people did, but I was wrong. From putting up with the TSA to the government schools, Americans have become a nation of beaten down, obedient sheep.

Now isn’t that a surprise. sarc/ And as cruel as children can be, his classmates are going to laugh and tease that kid about this until he graduates. His parents might as well put him in another school.

If this happens to my Grandson, I will tell him to pee in a corner. 5 will get you 10 he will. He has a rather strong sense of self and being a male, with manners.

Boys work well when they know the rules, in this case I can't pee when I have to and where it is acceptable, but I still have to pee, my mother will kick my butt if I pee my pants, so the corner looks good.

Yeah, I hope to homeschool but if I don’t and he is in a public school my boy will be taught to be respectful, to turn the other cheek etc, but be self motivated. By self motivated I mean he will be taught to THINK and trust his own understanding, judgment and he will know that Dad will ALWAYS back him up.

You obviously have great intentions, but I feel you're not getting the reality of the situation. Do you think that kid's parents told him when he was little "Never go to the bathroom without explicit permission or ELSE!"? No, but he still bowed to the teacher's authority regardless. He's only in 2nd grade, maybe 3rd, and he's already broken-in by the system. Why would your son have any better chance? You have no idea if you're any more supportive of your son than these parents are of their's. Remember, we're talking little kids here; they know they're supposed to listen to adults in an authority position, so they do. If they don't, they're discipline cases.

It's obvious there is no shortage of teachers who have ZERO sense and will abuse children due to their stupidity. As the saying goes, "the only winning move is not to play."

The wisdom of men is foolishness before God, while the wisdom of God is foolish to men. Liberalism is the wisdom of men.

“Your petty and nasty jealousy shows absolutely no regard for the child involved but you want to have a soapbox moment to boost your own ego? “

Not at all, but I get really tired of the fatuous aholes in Texas that somehow think that they’ve got the promised land. And I take great offense that Texans cluck at great length about how bad things are here in California. The truth is, things are bad the country over, and to suggest that somehow Texas has escaped unscathed is just BS. One of the “well known” Freepers used to live in Texas. That individual tells me that Texas schools were a disgrace in th 1980’s when she lived there, and he family tells her that nothing has changed in the intervening years. Like Texans, we are also proud of our state, not withstanding our morally corrupt RAT government. Instead of banding together to try and find ways to blunt the challenges that have come to all of us thanks to Marxism, some here on FR choose to belittle and denigrate a state most have never even visited because “it’s the cool thing to do” to trash somebody else. I actually looked at a “promotion” years ago to move to Graham, Tx ( you know, “the Gateway to the Possum Kingdom Reservoir’). Sure glad I passed. Can’t imagine having spent any part of my life int that backwardassed place. When I asked the mayor of Graham if their city swimming pool was integrated, He replied that while it was, the Black’s didn’t come because “they knew that they weren’t welcome.” Now that’s a Texas of which we can all be so proud.

At the private catholic school I went to, we were forced to read “The Bluest Eye”. My mom read it, and promptly went up to my English teacher and gave him an earful about forcing us to read that kind of garbage!

Nothing changed, of course. The teacher said we had to read it because the author was black.

If/when I have kids, they will be homeschooled.

The liberals running the indoctrination centers are doubling down to ensure that they exert absolute control over the children.

Everyday, we see the signs of decades of dumbing down the schools by liberal teachers unions. Clinton is one example, Obama is the most recent.

Now, they want to demonstrate that they have total control over EVERY aspect of these kids’ lives, INCLUDING the biological ones!!

Aren’t free government things wunnerful!???

I appreciate your Christian values, but I think you are confusing Christianity with being a doormat.

The Bible tells us "an eye for an eye". Neither the teacher, nor the principle were ignorant, the liberal-run teachers unions are doubling down to exercise total control over the children who attend their indoctrination centers. And, that control extends itself to their biological functions.

Don't confuse ignorance with evil. These people are evil and they are evil deliberately.

Education conditions across this vast State are no more uniform than the amount of grass cover on the ground.

What is your real beef with Texas (or Texans)?
