Ambulance gets 'booted' while paramedics tend to emergency

NEW ORLEANS - The Quicky's convenience store in Mid-City takes its parking lot rules seriously. Very seriously.

About 4 p.m. Friday, New Orleans paramedics rushed inside the store for a man with a life-threatening medical issue.

They worked on the patient with chest pain, put him inside the vehicle, then started to speed off.

The paramedics “heard a loud noise,” and the vehicle came to a screeching halt, according to Jeb Tate, spokesman for New Orleans Emergency Medical Services.

The medics stepped out and found a boot on their ambulance.

Convenience store employees allegedly put a restrictive parking boot on the ambulance. And now it was stuck.

The paramedics were perplexed.

Tate said the ambulance had its emergency lights on the whole time.

Store employees didn’t want to talk about it. They declined requests for comment.

Apparently one of the employees took the boot off. The tire was left flat.

And so the paramedics and the man with the emergency waited.

“We actually had to delay that patient's care by calling another ambulance out here to come transport this patient,” Tate said.

Signs on the convenience store make clear that parking is for customers only. The signs state: “If you leave the property for any reason your vehicle will be booted.”

But the paramedics apparently were there the whole time tending to a man with chest pains.

We called the telephone number on the sign, for the “Boot Man.”

A convenience store employee picked up, then hung up.

Tate, the EMS spokesman, said the agency has never had an incident like this before.

"As long as we have our lights on, we park where it is safe to park,” he added.

“A convenience store employee picked up, then hung up. “

This idiot needs a boot to the head.

The phrase for this in New Orleans is “naturally New Orleans”. A related popular T-shirt a decade ago said “Its not the heat, its the stupidity.

No one in the City gov jackal pack is so detested or so incompetent as the meter “maids”.

I’m thinking that one person had a grudge against the ill person and put the boot on in hopes to delay care long enough to kill them.

“What then?”

Simple...boot the door so paramedics cant get in. And when they call 911, hang up. Karma’s a bitch.

In New Orleans it is usually just the bone stupid in incidents like this.

The level of intelligence amongst the general American public continues to decline ever year. This one will definitely make national news, if only for the stupidity of the incident.

Some idiot convenience store employee with no brains or some weird concept of employee fealty to the company rulebook 'boots' an ambulance parked in front of the store with it's emergency lights on and the EMT's in the store working to revive a stricken customer, thus, making it impossible for the ambulance to transport the patient to a hospital in a timely manner.

Well, it was in New Orleans so maybe that helps explain this bit of insanity. I'm not an attorney but the stricken customer seems to have grounds for a lawsuit against the store and the stupid employee.A suit that I would expect he would win, handily.

My nephew is a paramedic with NOEMS. No one is surprised by this...only in New Orleans...anal thinking to the max. What makes it worse is the fact that the ambulance fleet is falling apart...if the EMS people can`t fix them they rot in a maintenance yard with dozens of others. ONE mechanic on duty. Oh and the EMS people are STILL working out of a small trailer-7 YEARS post Katrina. There are few hospitals and calls to the Eastern part of the city can mean an hour wait or longer for travel to and from call. Long time EMS people are leaving(my nephew included) and are told _”We don`t need you” when they try to volunteer part time. Now all of this AND businesses who call are going to boot ambulances.!! ?? Morons! Lets just say the inside talk is that this business isn`t going to get fast service if they call again + EMS personnel are talking boycott.

They should have called the people in charge of Obamacare to get the proper clearance for whatever is allowed to be done, 911 will disappear and be replaced by an 800 number with a wait time of at least ten minutes before you get to the automated answer machine which will tell you to hang up and call later.
