BOEHNER: I Looked At Geithner And I Said, 'You Can't Be Serious?'

House Speaker John Boehner told host Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday" that President Barack Obama is "not being serious" about proposing a deal to avert the so-called "fiscal cliff," slamming the president and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner's initial offer.

"It was not a serious offer," Boehner said. "I looked at [Geithner] and I said, 'You can't be serious?'

"You know, we've got several weeks between Election Day and the end of the year. And three of those weeks have been wasted with this nonsense."

I dunno. Maybe Boehner *ought* to threaten the WH with having most of the House Republicans vote ‘present’ on this and then start a national campaign blaming Democrats for whatever happens to the economy unless 0bama gives Republicans what they want.

Unfortunately Obama is many steps ahead of Bohner. This is all just a part of Bohner’s dance of surrender preparing us for when he says “This the best deal I could get you”

So Obama presents Bohner with his grand wish list, all popular give-aways to voters paid for by those ‘taxes on the rich’.

What does Bohner have to to counter him?

1) No tax cuts for anyone unless the rich get them too?
(This is not a winning position now. He will not hold to this, and he doesn't plan on it either. But I am thinking that waiting on this till next year just helps Obama, not hurts him)

2) No deal without entitlement reform?
(So Obama says ‘Fine, tell us all what cuts you want to make to medicare and Social Security. We are listening”
But specific cuts to medicare has been used by both sides against the other. So Bohner doesn't want to propose his own plan on those either.)

If I saw a good outcome the way they are going then I would tell you.

I’ve been saying that for sometime. The Republicans need to be willing to walk away from a bad deal. The only way to turn the Democratic tide is to ensure the Dems wear everything they supported.

There is more than ample evidence to prove that at least 50% of us are.

Newt would have told Timmy to get the hell out of my office and tell 0bama to call for an appointment.

I am not sure of the end game here either. The deadline comes polling shows it will be the republicans fault. It hurts defense. And the other cuts are not enough to scare Dems because no entitlements will be touched and taxes go up on everyone.

Is it make the best deal you can and live to fight another day? We obstructed him for 4 years and all we got was another 4 years. I think you could get a more balanced approach sooner rather than later. The longer it goes the less the Dems will feel the need to deal. I could be wrong though.

Does Geihtner ever look someone straight in the eye? He always has that sideways glance...indicative of the sidewinder he is..He should be wearing striped jumpsuit.

“Tax Cheat Timmy thinks Americans are suckers.”

How does a man who has been caught red-handed cheating on his taxes have credibility regarding negotiations on taxes and especially tax rates.

Doesn't the Obama White House have something like 250 people in arrears to the tune of $12 million on their federal taxes. If they can't pay what they owe now how are they going to pay more?

Yes, are told we only have two options:

Option 1: (lose) Repeat the past mistakes, claim it is principle, get crushed (polls, angry phone calls, emails), surrender and in the end give O what he demands in a secret vote, then blame the media, lots of whining, then get beat in the general election.
In fact if you recall the final FICA extension (total cave) last year was passed by the R House quietly almost in secret .

Option 2 (surrender): Give Obama pretty much what he wants, then have Republicans primaried out of their seats for surrender, have half the new ones lose(O's hope anyway), then be completely demoralized, and decide there is no hope. (Wasnt this just 3 weeks ago?)

These are both disasters and they are exactly what Obama is trying to get.
That is why I suuggest a new idea, fight to WIN not to LOSE.

First thing they need to do is pass those so called middle class CUTS in the house, everyones income under $250K, or hell, even 500K might work. And send that to the Senate and on ALL the TV shows repeat : “ crisis-over, we protected the middle class. WE CUT TAXES. OK, Mr President. What do you need from us? Lets play negotiate

And dont negotiate with Dems. Obama negotiates with voters, Republicans negotiate with Obama. Guess which one works? (there is another reason why this is so, can you guess what it is?)

If Republicans are taking the position that those middle class tax cuts cannot be extended unless they get O and Reid to sign onto those tax cuts the amounts over those above($250K/$500K) , and entitlement cuts, we all know how that will play out. No need to act shocked.

Look, if Bohner REALLY beats O at this then I will be the first here to admit I was wrong. But I havent seen anyone here who claims that they think that it will happen. That is the most amazing part. It's like "Please lose again"

That is the way many, many here think and act.

I’m still waiting for a Republican to figure out that taxing income is not going to effect the wealthy.

This is all just charade. The government is not going to get smaller. The Republicans will just float a solution worse than raising taxes to scare us and then we’ll be relieved when they only raise our taxes.

I think perhaps the “confiscate 401K’s” maybe how the Republicans do it.

The weather may be the most accurate news you hear all day.

I appreciate you seeing it.

This cult like behaviour: “We cant win. Everyone is against us. Lets lose on principle, again, and again, then blame the media and act surprised”

But in the end they always (at least the past two years) give O what he wants. So what principle is that?

Here's some simple rules no one ELSE will say:

1) If you win your primary and lose that seat to a Dem, dont blame voter fraud, the MSM, or (put excuse here) ...that is your failure.

2) If you vote against a bill that your house controls and it passes anyway (like budget control) after losing a visible public confrontation and the voters turn on your party and then O signs it into law, THEN that is losing not winning. Dont tell me a principle was served by that.

They need to start thinking winning. Losing is losing.

Pick up Paul Ryan's budget, tweak it a bit if you need to,publish it, spam the public with it, vote the damn thing through on party lines.

Then send it to the Senate and tell harry ried your turn.

Negotiating with geitner is like spitting into the wind.

Yep. And at this point, Boehner shouldn’t be negotiating with Barry, either. Nothing wrong with presenting and holding to your positions publicly.

History(the only thing that matters here) proves that Boehner will cave.
