Norquist: 'Tea Party 2' Backlash if Obama Sends Nation Over Fiscal Cliff

Sunday, December 2, 2012 04:09 PM

Grover Norquist, the founder of Americans for Tax Reform, predicted a tea party backlash that would dwarf the movement’s success in the 2010 midterm elections if President Barack Obama pushes the nation over the “fiscal cliff.

“Tea Party two is going to dwarf tea party one if Obama pushes us off the cliff,” warned Norquist on NBC’s “Meet The Press.”

When asked “Are you over?” by host David Gregory, Norquist responded, “That was last week’s news.”

We are already over the fiscal cliff - We cannot pay off 16 trillion in debt ever with this type of politics engrained in America.

Not trolling, just trying (vainly, it seems) from keeping the GOP from going the way of the Whigs.

They are on their way, by their own demand. And please, don't confuse "Republican" with "Conservative". There is some overlap, but one does not equal the other, as we conservatives are constantly reminded by the actions of the GOP leadership.

Of course we oppose Obamacare, and of course we opposed MEDICARE FROM THE BEGINNING of that monster.

BUT, now that Medicare is a way of life, and the money for that PONZI SCHEME was stolen from out checks, we have to deal with it.

THAT MONEY was stolen from us, for our benefit down the road, we are at the end of that road now, and they want to STEAL it once again from us. HELL NO.

We also do not want to see the age for receiving SS & Medicare GO UP, further destroying our younger generation. That is not fair to them either. Do you see how we are continually thinking of you?

THERE is more than enough Revenues to pay for all necessary promised spending in America WITHOUT touching SS & Medicare.

FIRST spending cut: ALL AID TO FOREIGN ENEMIES, FIRST then see Sen. Coburns list. After all that, then we can talk about what else is needed.

Now if the question or option is: Kill Obamacare, Kill Medicare & Medicaid,(entirely), kill all WELFARE (corp. & foreign) I dare say that 100% of ALL OLD people would say Hooray to that, I would.

Would the YOUNG applaud us and remember our sacrifice, or still say we OLD are living too long?

“Not trolling, just trying (vainly, it seems) from keeping the GOP from going the way of the Whigs.”

They seem to be doing a pretty good job of it by themselves lately.

Whether the GOP continues to head in that direction will be discernible from the results of the 2014 elections.

Historically, the party of the president loses strength in the midterm. We saw that in 2010.

But I sense that something has changed in America. Historically, a president presiding over an economy as bad as Obama’s (an economy HE created) would be defeated come election time. But Obama wasn’t defeated — he won.

The “old rules” no longer seem to apply. The old prognostications no longer work when applied to the situations we face today.

How the Obammunists move to consolidate their grip over America during the next two years leading up to that election will be telling, indeed. Whether the Republicans can rebuild as a national party — or even survive as one — depends on how vigorously they oppose the Obama putsch.

I’m going to go on record here (fully two years in advance) that the 2014 elections are going to be at best “a wash” for the Pubbies, and at worst another repudiation. (Aside: I would glady be proven wrong, but that’s how I see it). If the Republicans lose badly in the House, it will be all but over for them.

In the end, the laws of economics will prevail over the incompetence of the Republicans and the ill intentions of the socialists.
At least we will have the comfort of knowing that the 0-voters will suffer the most because they are incapable and ill-prepared for change.

Agreed - GWB just picked up speed with his insane spending, and his COMPLETE lack of ability or desire to defend ONE SINGLE act during his 8 year administration.

I can remember many times wanting to throw something up against the radio when I heard the leftists blaming GWB for everything under the sun (where I get all my news - I never watch news on TV). As that little fat Rove loved to say "We are taking the high road and will not respond to the lies of the left" we see where that got us!!! They left stands up for everything they pontificate on and certainly don't let a few lies get in their way. I am not advocating lying as a tactic of the Republicans, but for God's sake respond to the LEFTISTS when you know you are in the right!

I changed my lifelong GOP registration to Ind after the shellacking of 2006 when it was all too clear that GWB was not going to take on Piglosi and Reid.

“I expect American companies to act like American companies.
That is simple.”

The problem is that even [the large] American companies don’t view themselves as “American” any more.

They consider their reach global, as do all other large companies.

I agree with everything you say about how many, perhaps most, seniors feel. That has really been my point. The problem is that when many seniors hear Norquist talk about "entitlement reform," they understand him to be talking about reducing SS and Medicare benefits. And, of course, that is what he is talking about. He believes that taxes are too high and that spending on SS and Medicare needs to be cut.

Personally, I think Obamacare, Medicare and Medicaid are all unconstitutional and should be terminated now, but I recognize that I hold a minority view on that point. Few seniors agree with me.

When you couple low turnout with a few obnoxious and offensive comments on rape from gaffe-prone politicians, it’s hard to say whether the GOP ran with bad policies or just bad candidates....

Very depressing isn't it....the tea party is still alive, we are just fractured.

The non voters this year....had a temper tantrum, imo, & so we got the devil they hated most. Until they grow up, we will never win. It is always the comment you hear "I won't vote for ......, because", happens every election.

Me: I don't need a spiritual adviser as a President, Senator or Legislator.

Exactly. Voters generally tune out would-be Jeremiahs, whether from the right (Rick Santorum re. sexual morality) or from the left (Al Gore re. “climate change”). When the electorate wants jobs and an economic rebound, all else is just background noise.

True dat. Multinational companies, by their very nature, have no concept of patriotism or national alliegance.

Agree with your post 100%

I changed my lifelong GOP registration to Ind after the shellacking of 2006 when it was all too clear that GWB was not going to take on Piglosi and Reid.

I too have been a lifelong registered Republican. I proudly registered when I was old enough in 1979 then enthusiastically voted for Reagan in 1980 and 1984.

I've been loyal ever since, even giving my vote to McCain and Romney because the alternative was so bad...now I'm done with them unless they change back to the Regan model of Conservatism...not holding breath though...

I'm hoping for a new Conservative party to rise or I'll just vote for Conservatives that are on the ballot, no more RINO's!
