CNN Blames Culture of 'Manliness' For Belcher Murder/Suicide
Breitbart ^

Posted on 12/03/2012 6:39:38 PM PST by chessplayer

On Saturday, a rich 25-year-old man, Jovan Belcher, murdered his 22-year-old girlfriend, the mother of his child. First, columnist Jason Whitlock of Fox Sports suggested that this “25-year-old kid” wasn’t responsible for his actions – it was the “gun culture” that was to blame. Then, Bob Costas of NBC repeats this idiotic notion, even though the 6’2”, 228 lb. linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs could easily have murdered his girlfriend with a knife.

Now CNN is getting in on the act. Leading their website this afternoon is an op-ed from Kevin Powell, former Democratic Congressional candidate in New York, and cast member on MTV’s original season of “The Real World.” Powell’s contention: it’s America’s culture of manliness that led Belcher to blow away his girlfriend and then turn the gun on himself. That culture of manliness includes men hiding their emotion, machoness, and homophobia.

I detest Obama but this stuff has been going on long before Obama took office.

Remember the Twinkie defense?

Bob Costas is a guy, a photogenic guy, who comments on things he himself has never done with any degree of competency, i.e., sports. In other words, he is a pretty face who exercises his lips. He has no other expertise in his subject area.

Costas’ commentary on societal norms and laws is the commentary of, at best, an observer, a non-participant (he doesn’t move about in normal society, he is above it). He is another example of celebrity delusion. Because he regularly has the opportunity to speak to millions, he assumes it is because of who he is and what he knows rather than, simply, what he does for a living.

In reality he is at best a naif too full of himself, and at worst a self-appointed judge, presuming to render a verdict on things he really doesn’t understand.

Maybe Anderson Cooper can put together an hour-long CNN news special on this ‘icky nature’ of manliness.

No one forced him to buy a gun....it was his choice. No whitewashing his behavior...Could have used a knife just as easy....or baseball bat or drugs....

If Hostess wasn't in business in 1978, George Moscone and Harvey Milk might still be alive today!

****How long before we have metrosexual football with limp wristed announcers critiquing the players uniforms.****

The sarcastic sarcasm is strong with this one. Maybe Bob Costas will chime in. He fits the profile.

“... even though the 6’2”, 228 lb. linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs could easily have murdered his girlfriend with a knife.”

He could have murdered her with his bare hands. The story has to do not with guns, but with that which dwells in the human heart. And no journalist dares to deal with that. On the other hand, it is doubtful there is a journalist competent to deal with that, much less interested enough to learn.

CNN is so freakin' far out of touch with what's happened that I doubt they know up from down.

I saw Rickey Watters talking about this on the Gerri Willis show on Fox Business channel earlier tonight and he said Jovan Belcher had most likely mixed alcohol with drugs prescribed by a team doctor as a result of a concussion he suffered.

Watters said he had been through a similar experience during his career and had been on oxycontin recovering from a concussion and had such mode swings that his wife took the kids and left several times during that period. He even admitted that there were times that she left that he didn't even know she was gone because he was so far removed from reality.

CNN has their head up their a$$ making claims like that... but what else would you expect from liberal loons.

In case no one has noticed, our culture is in the sewer - the GOP is extinct not only because of the party’s ineptness, but the culture is lost and the values the GOP has to offer is no longer wanted or believed in. They have Baraq O’Claus to take care of them, while they all go about having fun. IMHO sanity isn’t coming back without some catastrophic event that will jolt the culture back into reality. It is more than likely going to end very badly.

Kevin Powell

Probably queer and not much of an expert on “manliness” other than being on the receiving end of it.

Can we just confiscate every gun in the hand of civilians? Then there would be zero deaths by gun violence.

This is the proper plan. We would be able to return to the placid serenity that permeated the gunless Roman Empire...

"Rap" is the manifestation of the spiritual degeneration and abject repulsiveness of a culture of destruction, misogyny, and death. It is about as uplifting as leg irons and millstones. Some people use their freedoms to willingly enter into bondage.

Rap is the modern equivalent of the drumbeat in the galley scene in Ben Hur.

It’s not the guns. It’s the carbon and sulfur and potassium nitrate. We must ban all access to these insipid chemicals NOW. No more volcanoes spewing sulfur, no more semi-burnt cellulosic material and no saving urine. It’s for the children.
