The top US military commander in Africa warned Monday against any premature military action in Mali, even as he said that al-Qaida linked extremists have strengthened their hold on the northern part of the country.
Army Gen. Carter Ham said that any military intervention done now would likely fail and would set the precarious situation there back "even farther than they are today."

Mali?! What are we doing there? It’s nothing but desert and Timbuktu.
Germany doesn’t seem fearful about going to Mali. Wonder why?
Don’t worry. Obama has already personally decimated al-Qaida.... and those that are left are on their heals.
**WHO in the hell gave the damn order to NOT rescue our men in Benghazi?**
Mali is a “gateway” to much of northern Africa and much of sub-Saharan Africa, as well as some of the “black Africa” countries.
Moslems live in Nigeria, Chad, etc. and are targets of both Al Qaeda and jihadists in general.
Mali is the perfect place to attack and destroy an enemy force that is centered in some cities/towns but has to travel out into the open desert to expand their operations.
Air attacks would be the first logical step in a degradation plan (as they were in Somalia), and then hit them with a series of commando attacks on their supply depots (esp. vehicles and fuel), command/communications centers (easily monitored by the US), and then massively attack them on the ground by regular Malian forces with good Western leaders and Special Forces and air support.
The key to the operation is to take no prisoners. Show the world that we mean business and that means killing the enemy, not having tea and camel cakes with them.
Oh, I forgot. Obama is running the show. Sorry. Run up the white flag and surrender to the desert roaches. That’s the Obama way.
Points taken, however, like you put it with the Obummer in charge, forget it. I still can’t believe he got re-elected, I keep hoping I’d wake up from this nightmare or this bummer LSD trip we seem to be on.
