AUSTIN, Texas - A Texas attorney who is a patient at a psychiatric hospital and was found incompetent to stand trial in an assault case is still trying to practice law and get a theft charge against a client dismissed.
But an appeals court has questioned whether Carolyn Barnes can continue representing her client while she remains institutionalized.
The Austin American-Statesman reported Sunday (http://bit.ly/TBTc9U ) that Barnes has been committed to Kerrville State Hospital since mid-2011. She is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after being accused of firing a handgun in 2010 at a census worker outside her home in Leander, northwest of Austin.
Despite being hospitalized, Barnes' law license remains in good standing. Barnes, who has been fighting her commitment, told the newspaper that if she can practice law, she is competent to be tried. Barnes has been licensed to practice law in Texas since 1984.

So what’s the problem?
Don’t know if she’s Board Certified. But Clinically Certified is good enough for me!
I know, right? Just because she took a shot at a census worker, they throw her in the looney bin?
Dis.Grace.Ful.
That is not what usually happens to somebody accused of a crime. Weird.
Her decisions probably wouldn’t be any less sane than the typical Carter/Clinton/Obama appointee.
She looks like an older version of Miss Staplegun 1993, on MSG1993 was not named Carolyn.
Slightly more shappely to he jawline MSG1993 was as well, otherwise... eery.
As long as they limit her practice to criminal defense in high-profile celebrity cases (think Gloria Allred), she should be perfectly qualified.

That logic works for me.
If she is ‘sane’ enough to maintain her license, she should be ‘sane’ enough to use it.
Sounds like a ‘political’ arrest though, would be interesting to see her affiliates etc....
Kind of figure she is NOT a card carrying ACLU lawyer and probably not a Lib.
We already know she is FOR owning a gun....<: <:
If she was in ILL-ANNOY, she could run for office and win in a landslide. Just ask Jesse Jackson, Jr.
One might wonder in passing if someone did this to her as a vendetta. Some of those nut houses can be run by folks who are almost as warped as their worst occupants.
And I assume she had issues with nosy census workers asking personal questions outside the intent of the Constitution.

And don't forget. Chicago ELECTS judges who are legally insane.

Probably along the same lines as when I am going into a facility and the ‘guard’ is very obviously ‘Middle Eastern’, or possibly an illegal or both and they are checking me for my ID to enter an airport or a building which my (OUR) taxes paid for the construction of.
They’ve incarcerated her...she, the most brilliant attorney of them all!!
Hey, Gloria Allred is as crazy as a loon, thinks she’s a judge, and lives in Los Angeles. They let HER practice law.

I say let her practice.
I say sentence her to ten hours on the practice firing range!
