Harry Reid blames tea party for lack of fiscal cliff deal

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Tuesday blamed the tea party for both the lack of a deal on the fiscal cliff and the failure of the Senate to ratify a United Nations treaty on the rights of the disabled.

Speaking to reporters, the Senate’s top Democrat suggested that Speaker of the House John Boehner was unable to strike a deal with the White House to avert the fiscal cliff because the tea party members of his caucus would penalize him for it, potentially by taking away his speakership in the next session.

“I sympathize with John Boehner,” Reid said. “The tea party has a firm grip on the Republican Party. … This vocal minority contingent exerts tremendous influence over him and Republicans in the House and in the Senate.”

“Yesterday, Speaker Boehner put forward a plan that for the first time put a revenue number on paper,” Reid went on. “The proposal is not nearly enough to restore fiscal responsibility, and it would hurt middle-class families; yet it’s apparently enough to make the tea party scream bloody murder.”

Boehner has taken quite a bit of flak from the more conservative wing of his party after releasing a proposal to avert the fiscal cliff on Monday. President Barack Obama rejected the proposal, leaving talks stalled. (RELATED — Paul Ryan on fiscal cliff: ‘We’re nowhere. We‘re farther than where we started’)

Interesting that he and Boehner have a common enemy in the Tea Party and Conservatives.

I blame Harry Reid for his penchant for sniffing bicycle seats, and eating fresh water rock snails by the handful, which gives him voluminous, odoriferous and painful flatulence.

You may recall that there were a certain contingent of conservatives who were so disenchanted with the slim pickings for prez that they espoused a “quick-death” approach wherein we sit out the election and let the ‘rats win preferring to end it now rather than letting it linger (and torturing us all in the process). I understood the sentiment even if I couldn’t willingly go along with it.

It looks like that is what we got anyway.

(Enjoy the ride - it’s all downhill from here)

A##clown Ried is wrong! the GOP is doing a fine job of neutering the teaparty people in thier own house. After the 2012 election they woke these a##hats up more than the rats. Jim Demint was on Levin tonight and said he and the rest of them have been excluded from fiscal talks with boner and his a##lickers who are makeing deals behind closed doors. The American people are truley on thier own. The rats and the Piubs are negotiating our downfall and thier place in the hierarchy. The question is will we have enough rope

Marcella, if we don’t start fighting fire with fire in the language used over and over against us, conservatives, the Tea Party, all ANGLOS, Republicans, the religious, then we are not showing up for the fight. They are firing a canon and we bring a fork.

The divide-and-conquer scheme requires propaganda, language use, name calling, and a microphone (media) in order to marginalize, mock and eventually kill the opposition.

Add drugs into a country and you can be Rwanda, where one million were systematically slaughtered. 48 hours after their president was killed in a plane crash, the border closed and genocide began.

It all started with propaganda (radio) and dividing the people into two tribes the short and the tall, which became the Hutu and Tutsis.

That language is going on here, unchecked. Racism is baited daily.

Our response? Crickets.

What you say is true, plus we now have Boehner using his ax on Tea Party conservatives, taking them off committees. Never thought that would happen and it tells me Boehner will only work with moderate/liberal Republicans. So, I think the Republican Party is over. They will never field a conservative candidate for President and anyone they put up will lose, the next one likely being Jeb Bush.

That's why I think the Tea Party will have to step up and organize as a bona fide political party and maybe in five/ten years a conservative could be elected President.

Back to your point, the Tea Party would have to make their case to all people from all walks of life. People like Boehner will never approach others below what he thinks is his “station” in life.

And, with that snake, Reince Priebus the National Chairman, he won't let a conservative do jack, including conservative delegates to the national convention - he cut them off at the knees, and wouldn't let the two words, Tea Party, be mentioned in front of the convention. As far as I am concerned, he can go pound dirt. He's already gotten a commitment from the majority that they will vote him again as national chairman. It's a freaking conspiracy against conservatives - where is my tin foil hat?

I had hopes for gains enough inside the Establishment Party to get a foot in the door. Out of the ashes of all that hope evaporated....yes, it’s time.

I have no hope with the new faces. I liked DeMint and his tiny coalition, but he is leaving at 2016 and his coalition is left doomed by the Boehner establishment.

I believe the conservatives have a better chance at necessary numbers in some kind of allignment with Libertarians, who enjoined with the Tea Party on our initial stand against fiscal corruption, banking and GM bailouts, and the corrupt Pelosi cram down of Obamacare, and the all round abuse of the Constitution. The Libertarians are rigid fiscal gorilla fighters on the fiscal issues and on the strict interpretation of the Constitution.

We conservatives love the Constitution, but for the parts we don’t like, as the narrow foreign war policy and procedures and monetary restraint rules. Ron Paul was spot on about the Constitution abuses going on from both sides of the aisle.

Thanks, Marcella.

The “quick-death” equals surrender, the real problem with that is they surrendered for us.
