Sooner or later, the “cans” will get kicked down the road and the area (which apparently was very, very nice at one time) will be redeveloped.

Absolutely. Everyone knows the only way to fix it, and they’ll keep abortion legal and subsidized, artificial contraception in the high schools, and time limits on welfare to make it happen.

No; I’m just over 40, and it was already overrun by that point. I suspect it’s heyday was about 50 years ago.
Seems like a lot of things started their decent ~50 years ago. The biggest and most inpactful being our society.
I get all warm and fuzzy when I hear friends of mine (late 70’s y/o Korean War vets) make comments like: “I’m glad I’m on my way out.”
They agree too; the fall started in the 60’s.
Being from a large family, we missed the ascent; I was paying high school tuition before I ever went to college. I’m glad, otherwise I would think this sucks...

I do, too, but I think it been much worse on my peers who were “only children” or who came from wealthier families (their expectations were higher). I graduated college in the early 90s, when the economy was bad (in a relative sense - now I know what a BAD economy looks like); I understood how Bush 1 lost because I remember all the recent graduates looking for work. I was working some full-time dead-end job I’d had through high school & college, and I didn’t really have debt (or even a car) so at least I could pay bills/have some money until I could find better work.
I could imagine how depressing this whole thing looks to older people who had it good until recently.

I don’t know Obama did so well with old white people; while I think this country has changed for the worse, it has morphed into something unrecognizable to them.

Hell, I’m on the cusp of 40; I feel that this isn’t the country I grew up in.
The older folks must be/are lost. If it wasn’t for sheer survival, I’d almost like to be “lost”.

I hear you; just past 40 myself, and it is completely foreign to me. Thankfully rather than be in one of the places that resembles Holland, I’m in one that resembles Bogota (there are families and children and Christianity and a work ethic, just in another language).
