A man sentenced to 60 years for the brutal murder of a city woman will see early release from prison next month thanks to a decision by the Rhode Island parole board.
Alfred Brissette, 38, of Woonsocket, pleaded no contest to what the Supreme Court described as a "brutal, barbaric and senseless" case of "thrill" killing in Burrillville in 1999. Brissette and Marc Girard were convicted of killing of Jeanette Descoteaux, also of Woonsocket in 2002.
According to court records, Brissette and Girard lured Descoteaux into the woods at George Washington Park with an offer of cocaine. Brissette demanded that the victim have sex with him before smashing her over the head with a lug wrench. The naked woman tried to escape her attackers, fleeing through the woods but was ultimately chased down and beaten with a lug wrench and a shovel, which, records indicate, Brissette had bought for the express purpose of burying a body.
The pair had reportedly conspired to kill and bury a random woman 18 months in advance.
Girard was sentenced to life plus 10 years and Brissette was sentenced to 60 years with 35 to serve.
WPRI reports that Brissette had earned more than 1,600 days of "good time" credit putting his release date to 2028, according to the R.I. Department of Corrections. The Rhode Island Parole Board, however, granted Brissette early release earlier this year.
Brissette will reportedly be supervised as a parolee until 2028.
Parole boards should be held criminally libel for the people they let loose on the streets.
But, we are a nation of laws. The same kind of law that releases this POS to kill again also encourages drilling a hole in a baby’s skull, sucking its brain out and burning the body with salt,
Which one is the animal?
Wonder what the people on that parole board will say to the family of his next victim...
Just another act in the same, tired, play, only relevant because the 2nd is going to come under fire again.
Let him out at 1600 Pennsylvania
A true leftist believes fervently that no one should be punished for his crime, since there is no free will. No one is responsible for crime. A criminal “snaps.”
There is no such thing as “snaps.” It’s a word used by liberals and lawyers to confuse jurors.
This is precisely the reason I justify the use of the death penalty, not as a deterrent, but to permanently remove these monsters from our society.
We lived in Burrillville, 1987-88. A really nice, quiet little town.
If I were a knuckle-dragging, Neanderthal conservative I’d be muttering things about “open season”...
Pure insanity, letting this guy out. The only way he should have “supervised parole” is hand-cuffed 24/7 to a member of the parole board. Give each parole board member a 24 hour shift.
I don't recall any debate about this program in the state...the gov did it unilaterally....without reps input.
A true leftist believes fervently that no one should be punished for his crime, since there is no free will. No one is responsible for crime. A criminal “snaps.”A leftist thinks that people’s economic role in society entirely determines their entire personality, believes, and whole being. When somebody murders someone, it must be because he is so desperate about the injustice inherent in the capitalist mode of production.
This is why leftists keep repeating that “punishment is no solution” and that we “need to fight the root causes instead,“ which in their minds are always capitalism itself. So, let all the murderers and child molesters roam free until capitalism is replaced by pure, world-wide socialism, because then there won’t be any murderers or criminals anymore! At all!! Isn’t that a wonderful plan??
As soon as he is pushed out the door, he should be met with a hail of gunfire. Let them clean up their own mess.
This is insanity.
Someone should keep this loser fellow away from snow shovels.
