DETROIT (WJBK) -- The city of Detroit faces a major financial crisis and one member of city council thinks President Barack Obama should step in and help.
City Council member JoAnn Watson said Tuesday the citizens support of Obama in last month's election was enough reason for the president to bailout the struggling the city. (Click the video player to listen)
"Our people in an overwhelming way supported the re-election of this president and there ought to be a quid pro quo and you ought to exercise leadership on that," said Watson. "Of course, not just that, but why not?"
Nearly 75 percent of Wayne County voters pulled the lever for Obama in November.
The White House has expressed no plans to bailout the cash-crunched city that some experts say could run out of money by the end of the year.
The federal government has bailed out cities in the past, however. In 1975, President Gerald Ford extended more than $2 billion in credit to New York City to help it avoid a financial collapse.

I don’t know if folks here are being intentionally obtuse or tiptoeing around the elephant in the room.
Detroit is not just run by democrats, but black democrats.
They FULLY EXPECT the black president to send them graft from the federal government. That’s the way it works among black democrats. There is no other reason to attain public office than to get rich through their office.

The best thing that could happen to Detroit, is to line up Cat D-9s side by side and doze that place to the ground and bury the remains.
We should just have the military go in and spend a week leveling the place to dust. Convert it back to farm ground and start over. 50 acres and a mule?

It’s 40 acres... has to do with being a fraction of a square mile of land which is 640 acres. There would be 16 40 acre plots per square mile.
A smarter idea would be send "free" ObamaBux to Mr. Obokokimo in Nigeria who keeps asking for a bank account number so he can split his $10 million inheritance with us. We would have more chance of it going to a good cause or even getting it back.

Mayor Dave Bing is trying to do that but city council is oppositional to Bing because they preferred the leadership style of Kwame Kilpatrick who is currently up on federal charges with his father and best friend, developer Bobby Ferguson.
Mayor Bing is a pillar of the Michigan minority-owned business community and the Michigan business community as a whole but that doesn’t mean much in Detroit’s culture of corruption. It seems unthinkable but city council thinks they really had a good thing going with Kwame Kilpatrick as Mayor.
She must figure that if Obama bails out Detroit, she and others like her will personally have access to some of that Obama stash money and because she is “important”, she is entitled to her fair share.
Detroit got what it voted for,color it GONE.

“Imported from Detroit” ... I only wish that it was in another country. I did some consulting work in Detroit (GM, not Chrysler) a number of years ago. I used to stay in Windsor, ON and commuted across the river to work. It was safer, cleaner and more comfortable in Windsor. Canadians would never take Detroit off our hands. They know better.
Detroit is a hell hole. It was made by the people of Detroit and they deserve every bit of misery in their down fall. The rest of America is not responsible for their failures. They elected Obama. They elected their mayor. They elected their city council. They have some of the worst schools in the nation, where they simply graduate on generation of illiterates after another.
So many people have moved from Detroit to other towns and cities. I only hope they are positively and conservatively influenced by their new neighbors. To tell you the truth, I really don't want them in my neighborhood, especially if they love Obama so much. They need to reenter American society with their tails between their legs. Maybe then they won't get the Micheal Vick treatment.
By they way, to make it perfectly clear, I do not like liberal city folks. I moved away from Philadelphia thirty years ago and I no desire to go back and no joy when I visit. The problem exists in just about ever American city with a population over 50k. The problem needs to be eliminated. It is the heart of the 47%.
MrB, you are so correct. The pattern repeats itself in every city. Call me a racist, but I will show anyone hard statistics that support my views. I really don’t think it has anything to do with the color of one’s skin. It is a cultural problem.
It’s culture. Your ability to reflect light with your skin surface has nothing to do with your behavioral, moral, and ethical choices. Your culture and upbringing do.
Call me a “culturist”. Anyone that wants to argue that there isn’t a value difference between cultures can have at it (defend child sacrifice). Otherwise, the fact that some cultures are BETTER than others, and some WORSE, and some OUTRIGHT DANGEROUS AND DEGRADED, stands.
To me this is evidence that the DNC vote making machine was over reaching with their promises.
This woman is speaking as a person who was promised some goodies, and she is only trying to figure out the logistics of picking them up.
You are correct as far as the MEANING of the term, but in this case she is expecting payoff for her votes
