For social conservatives, the treason began long before election day, when Rove led the party’s tar-and-feathering of Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin, after Akin’s now infamous “legitimate rape” comments. The GOP’s perceived betrayal of Akin confirmed what many grassroots conservative activists had long suspected: That the Republican Establishment was willing to throw the base under the bus to serve the interests of deep-pocketed donors.
Chief among Rove’s critics is David Lane, a powerful evangelical kingmaker and conservative operative who organizes briefings between pastors and politicians. In an email obtained by Business Insider, Lane lays out his criticism of Rove and sets the stage clearly for the coming war between the GOP Establishment and the party base.

I’ve posted this a number of times and do so again inasmuch as THIS is a constantly recurring problem and some may not grasp how widespread it is.
If you want to know why I’ve cautioned my many friends to NOT SEND THE RNC A NICKLE, READ ON.
Over the years – when, to steal a line from Billy Joel, I wore a younger man’s clothes – I was involved with several pretty solid conservative candidates for Congress. One was a Democrat (Lawrence Patton McDonald) – because that was the only way he could win in that district. Those old-timers who know Larry’s record will tell you that he was a solid an anti-communist America Firster and more Republican than the Pubbies in nearby districts at the time. (His mother’s cousin was General George Patton from whom he got the middle name – and his incredible resolve and love of this country.) How ironic that he, like General Patton, was also assassinated by the communists they both despised.
Those other candidates ran as Republicans. Because I was a rabid Bircher back then (still am philosophically!), those candidates had to pass my rigid litmus test or I went looking for someone who did. For that reason, I hooked up with what the TRADITIONAL country club Pubbie establishment types believed were too radical for their refined tastes.
As those campaigns began to unfold and it became clear to the country clubbers that these guys 1) had a shot and 2) were pretty independent thinkers who would be hard to keep on the reservation once they got sworn in, the local Pubbies communicated that information to the Republican National HQ types who rather quickly sent in campaign “professionals” ostensibly to lock up the impending victory.
Instead, in nearly every case to which I was privy, these “professionals” proceeded to TORPEDO our guy’s campaign in subtle but effective ways.
From that experience I can tell you that the Pubbies at the HQ in D.C. would rather have a Democrat win a given district than have a pubbie up there who would embarrass them by refusing to follow the party line.
If YOU become involved in campaigns for solidly conservative, America and Constitution loving, hard-nosed, independent thinking candidates in 2012 and beyond – and I pray many of you do — please DO NOT trust any of those folks from GOP HQ in Washington. If they want to send you no-strings cash for your campaign, take it. If, however, they “suggest” sending in one of their “professionals,” tell them to fuggetaboutit.
They ARE WHO GOT US INTO THIS MESS AND THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS!!!!

It seems odd to me, that people hold Rove to account for “destroying the brand” (or whatever—you know what I mean), but give a pass to Akin for doing the same. Granted, one is not a politician, but still.

Both of my Senators are in my sights for getting primaried. Chambliss is up in 2014, and I’ve been reading about Herman Cain’s name coming up to run against him. If so, then he’s my man. Otherwise, whoever else runs against Chambliss is my guy (or gal). Even Sarah Palin’s endorsement of Chambliss couldn’t convince me to vote for him.
Any party wanting to claim legitimacy should have thrown Todd Akin under the bus. He’s an idiot. I’m surprised that of all the things you can be mad at Rove for that this is the one you picked out.

Akin has one of the most conservative voting records in congress. He is no idiot. He has a degree in engineering and theology.
Rove divided the party and threw even more media attention on the gaffe. Only a fool would have voted for McCaskill over Akin. Part of the rino strategy is to use minor names to try and conceal the disaster at the top, Rove, Rinos, and Romney pulling off a national defeat when facing Carter's second term.

Numerous learned papers assert the same things Akin said, and supply proof, beyond the anecdotal proof that also supports Akin.

They simply said what they always say when they lose. Their message just didn’t get out.
Face it, the conservative message just was not articulated properly by a now obviously flawed candidate. And that is the sole reason we lost. Conservatism was NOT rejected, Romney was.

Not only did the GOP and the nation lose the presidency and return Carter II, the GOP will have years of work to do to repair the damage that Mitt’s gaffe ridden and anti-conservative campaign caused, the question is, can conservatives recover from Romney, or has he permanently moved the party left and branded it with his ‘awkward loser’ image as incompetent and irrelevant.

The truth is that Romney got the votes to win, but was not willing to protect those votes. Fraud wins when the honest are powerless to uphold the law.

Look, buddy, talking up rape in technical terms that most people can't comprehend is a sure-fire LOSING tactic. Akin should have known that most people haven't read the dozens of technical PhD-level papers that deal with minute levels of this or that hormone that you have.
Running on that platform will lose every time because the Average Person looks at "rape" and says, "That is a horrible thing and must be punished" and that is the top number one visceral reaction to it.
ANYONE who tries to put a "legitimate" spin on RAPE deserves to be slaughtered by the electorate.
