(Reuters) - Authorities in Alaska said on Tuesday they were examining tips from across the United States as they piece together the decade-long travels of a confessed serial killer who committed suicide over the weekend while awaiting trial for the abduction and murder of an Anchorage teenage woman.

Officials say Israel Keyes confessed to kidnapping and killing 18-year-old Samantha Koenig, who vanished in February from the coffee stand where she worked, a Vermont couple and up to five other people before killing himself.

Now a toll-free tip line established by the FBI is bringing in clues about other possible victims of the 34-year-old carpenter described by authorities as a "very methodical" serial killer who evaded suspicion for more than a decade.

Keyes was found dead in his jail cell Sunday in an apparent suicide. A spokeswoman for the Alaska State Troopers said he was alone in his cell and that foul play was not suspected.

This guy thought about how best to kill. He didn’t just stumble into circumstances that fed what he wanted to do. He planned and moved decisively when the circumstances met predetermined criteria. He looked for the right conditions, tested them and acted. How many like this guy are out there?...

Totally made my day when I heard he did himself.

I know the small lake where he dismembered that poor girl and chopped through the ice to leave her remains underwater.

May Satan take due pleasure in giving him a position of permanent Hell.

He was the worst kind of human predator, the random killer/butcher.

and like most serial killers, he was a nothing of a mad....he did not stand out...he wasn't physically superior or intelligent not handsome nor clever nor bright nor talented, except at attacking the innocent...

that video of that poor girl I just can not watch....

there was a horrible crime in the Seattle Cascade area several years ago...two women, a mother and her dtr, were hiking during the day...a day hike....and were killed mercilessly....I forget the manner of death....but I think the cops think this animal might be responsible...it bears looking into...

just like this creep to attack two unsuspecting women away from every body else....

They were both shot. It occured in an area where I had once fished near the Monte Cristo Mining area. It was very bizarre. I never wanted to fish in that area again.

Even creepier is the story that just came out about the NY cop who was going to help some other men kidnap, torture, and murder women and then eat them. How can anyone deny the existence of evil?
