Boehner tells Obama put deal on the table, amid growing caucus discontent
Fox News.com ^ | December 5, 2012

House Speaker John Boehner emerged Wednesday from a meeting with fellow Republican congressional leaders and urged President Obama to meet face to face on solving the country’s looming fiscal crisis or send a deal to Congress on which both chambers can agree.

“We need a response from the White House,” said Boehner, who sent a proposal Monday to the White House. “We can't sit here and negotiate with ourselves. … If the president doesn't agree with our proposal and our outline, I think he's got an obligation to send one to the Congress.”

The president and congressional Republicans are at a stalemate on how to check the country’s rising $16 trillion debt and to reduce its budget deficits, which have topped $1 trillion for several straight years. The president has so far insisted on raising tax rates for the country’s highest earners and appears willing to make cuts to entitlement programs. Republicans have called for changes to the tax code to boost revenue, instead of tax rate increases, along with bigger spending cuts.

Boehner’s problem is that he has been drawn into an asymmetrical battle.

He is debating parliamentary procedure with the President. This is a losing proposition from the start!

He needs to continuously call upon Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer for THEIR proposals and IGNORE President Nil!

Mitch McConnell should do the same for Harry Reid.

Put it on the table each and every day that we are beyond 4 years without Reid passing a budget.

Barry will jump, twitch and complain....but IGNORE him! Call upon the Democrat Legislators to get about the business of the budget....

Force President Nil to veto the result!

No deal can pass without the House. Period. He’s not in a good position, but he doesn’t have to fold, either.

There is a complete lack of articulating a position to the American people. Total lack of party organization and talking points.

So what should Boehner do?

IMO, walk.

Negotiation 101. Whoever goes first loses.

Wisconsinlady~:” The best the Republicans could do for the American public, is to go home immediately. turn the lights out.”

Agreed !

Put the proposal out on the table.
So far , its been smoke and mirrors just like OBamacare and :” You gotta pass it to find out what’s in it “.
So far , its been all press releases and sound bytes by mainstreammedia , and Obama campaigning.
He has no leadership, .. so he campaigns

The Fiscal Cliff was brought to you by Obama; it is kabuki theatre of politics , finances , and power .
He invented it , he referees the game , and he changes the rules as the game is played.
All the time he has the media backing him : unequivically .
He is a narcissist who is subject to tantrums if he doesn’t get his way.
He is devisive and proposes Class Warfare (right out of Saul Alinsky manual).
He wants unbridled power to run the country as he wishes , with the finances as he wishes , with no encomberances.
He believes that he is above the Constitution , the Bill of Rights , and above the Congress.

He is confronting the Constitutionally directed authority of the House for funding . This is the second time he has confronted the Constitution ; the first was Obamacare which is a tax which did not come out of the House .
It is time for the lights to go out !

If you had read it you would have seen that Boehner is strictly against raising taxes

Horse hockey, Radar! Boehner HAS raised debt ceilings and done EVERYTHING ELSE THAT THE BUMBLING BOOB in our White House wants him to do. Mark my words . . . he WILL AGREE TO ANY AND ALL TAX INCREASES! Where have you been? On Boehner's campaign trail?

Obviously you didn’t read the article. If you had read it you would have seen that Boehner is strictly against raising taxes and you would have read that there are some republicans in name only who find nothing wring with raising taxes

I used to defend Boehner, too. Obviously, you didn't read the article. Boehner is [purportedly] against raising tax rates, but cutting deductions will raise taxes, nonetheless.

He should be fighting against tax increases period.

What John Boehner should be doing now is preparing his response to Obama’s proposal, which will be made two days before he leaves for Hawaii, to extend the 2011 agreement beyond January 1st.

That will allow Obama to golf and swim and enjoy his favorite ice cream cones on his $4-million vacation without looking like he’s deserting America while it’s left to go over the fiscal cliff alone.

If John Boehner just says no to Obama without explaining to the public why kicking the can down the road another time would destroy investors’ confidence that America can ever be trusted again, he will look like Scrooge right in the middle of all the Christmas festivities.

So John had better start practicing a good speech. Otherwise, Obama will add another recreational activity to his repertoire in Hawaii - blaming the Republicans for pushing America over the cliff when he himself was perfectly willing to avoid it.

and how should he do that? Taxes will go up, automatically, if nothing is done.

There isn’t a damn thing Boehner can do

The House should negotiate with the Senate, not the President.

Let Harry Reid deal with Obama. Boehner should be dealing with McConnell and Reid. Leave Obama on the outside until the Congress aligns on a compromise first.

Then let Obama have a whack at it.

Otherwise, Boehner is bringing Obama into Congressional deliberations, a place where Obama does not belong. All Boehner is doing is giving Obama a platform to look presidential, and letting Reid and the Senate off the hook.

When one can not fire the other, negotiation respect is earned.

Nobama may be stupid enough to really think he holds all the cards. Boehner may be stupid enough to think nobama holds all the cards.

The only way around this load of horse hockie is for enough House Pubbies to refuse to go along with any giving in.

Yeah the MSM and dems will find a way to put the blame on the Pubbies, so what. Its two years until 2014 mid-terms and the few sheeple who actually vote in mid-terms will have long forgotten who got blamed for Fiscal Cliff. Nobama on the otherhand will continue pissin off the 49% that did not vote for him to such a degree that 2010 will just be a resersal and he will guarantee a big House and Senate majority.

On the otherhand, if the House gives in THEY will be the ones pissin off the 49% and we all will walk away and let whoever wants to finish the wrecking.

Bullshite! The House holds the checkbook! Nobama can not work around that simple fact.

This is like negotiating with your snotty nosed 16 yo who just wants and wants without a clue on how to pay for it. If you don’t stand your ground, get ready to pay.

The House can refuse to give in on spending and hold the real fat chip “debt ceiling” without significant spending cuts.

Even a blindman can see the dems are bluffing. Call it!

There is a complete lack of articulating a position to the American people.

Bonehead doesn't even try to articulate the dangers of the Obama position. He's afraid to. He'd rather make nice.

Why can’t the speaker come out with something along the lines of the following, said in a happy, friendly, but forceful manner? He would be able to sound “nice” but at the same time point out the extravagance of the President’s trip, would be able to suggest that the President is being grumpy and petulant, but said in a very benign way.

He would be able to convey the phoniness of all of this running around screaming about doom and cliffs. He would have an ear to the points that Democrats didn’t pass a budget when they could. Here is what I would like to hear in a press conference from the Speaker of the House:

Ladies and Gentlemen:
There is not an emergency. This country has gone four years without a budget and we are still all walking around. If this were an emergency today, it would have been an emergency two months ago, yet it was barely brought up in the election cycle, certainly not as an emergency. When the President sent his budget, Democrats voted against it. When the Democrats held both houses and the Presidency they did not pass a budget.

The President has just been through a long and grueling campaign season which can wear on anybody’s nerves. He is about to take a (put in dollar amount and time period) vacation over Christmas, a generous gift from American taxpayers. We wish him a restful and revitalizing period of time with his lovely wife and beautiful daughters, after which he may return in January refreshed and renewed. At that time we may all feel more inclined to reasonableness. Until then, we, the Congress plan to pass yet another continuance and then we will go home and celebrate the holy days with our families and friends, to come back in a better frame of mind after the first of the year. Merry Christmas to the press corps and American people. See you in 2013. (no questions....he walks off).
