According to a recent Gallup poll that asked participants if they have a positive or negative image of socialism, 53 percent of Democrats and leaning democrats said they have a positive image while 23 percent of Republicans and leaning republicans said their image is positive.
On the other hand, Republicans and leaning republicans view of small business, free enterprise, and entrepreneurs was 95 percent, 94 percent, and 91 percent positive, respectively.

Wow, more Republicans than that have a positive image of socialism.
53%? An underestimation.
Most of these mental midgets could not define ‘socialism’ if they had to. And in reality, they have not yet really felt the socialism that is coming their way.
These fools do not have a clue.
53% of democrats want someone else to give them something for nothing. It’s that simple. I’d be willing to pay higher taxes to live apart from these people and have little or no interaction. They suck the spirit out of living.
Well,23 percent of Republicans are realy Dems but won’t admit it-not even to themselves.
I wonder how many of the people polled actually know what the correct definition of socialism is.
Too many “college” kids are graduating from “college” and then being allowed to roam free without supervision and never, ever being deprogrammed.
>>Wow, more Republicans than that have a positive image of socialism.
Most of them won’t admit to a positive image of socialism, when you call it by name. But describe it piece by piece and they’ll say its wonderful. Of course many of the components of socialism are quite popular with most Americans. We’ve been partly socialist for generations.
I’d like to see the same poll, except replace socialism with communism and see how many Dems think positively of that.
Socialism and communism never work. They are backwards on THE LAW OF EFFECT. THE LAW OF EFFECT shows us that generally you receive more of the behavior that you reward and less of the behavior that you punish. If you punish those who work hard by taking more of their money to give to those who aren’t working, then people will not work hard. If you reward those who don’t work, then you will have more people who don’t work.
Socialism and communism are lies. People who want money and power, and can’t get it quick enough for their tastes in their present culture, then start yammering about redistributing wealth. In each and every case, if they get that power and money, they just become dictators. And the people suffer.
I think we could have figured this out just by looking at their 2008 presidential primary candidates—freaks all the way around, and they chose the worst of the bunch.
Every rational and ethical person is against socialism. The elites lack ethics and the lower classes lack education.
That's why the POS is POTUS and the country is in the crapper.
Well, first of all few people really understand the definition. Or have their own definition.
Secondly if “socialism” is equated with “healthcare as a basic right, like national defense” then yes, there are a lot of people who may not like Obamacare but simply are never going to be able to afford healthcare otherwise. Given the option between Obamacare, or a system like England or Canada has, and NOTHING, darn few are going to decide on the latter.
And despite the sentiment often prevailing in FR, there is a lot of unease at the fact a CEO now earns far more than their typical worker, compared to a few generations ago. The canard that some use is “Look at how well off the poor are, they have TV’s, Cable, 21” rims”, and “I don’t care how rich Gates is, I’m doing much better than my father did, why should I care if he had 50 billion in the bank”? Both arguments that work great on FR, Townhall or like places but are laughable at best outside of preaching to the converted.
The uber-rich might have well overplayed their hand, the fellow who owns Papa Johns is a good example; free marketeers seem to admire the guy, most of the people I know and work with would gladly pay 50 cents more for a pizza to have it made and delivered by someone who could go to the hospital if they needed to, or even just stay home sick with pay instead of being part time with no benefits.
I’m old enough to remember the Cold War, and know enough history to realize how badly the USSR messed up everything outside of brute force imperialism,,, but the people born the year the wall fell down are 22 now, the USSR might as well be Nazi Germany or the Roman Republic. And the acolytes of Rand and Von Mieses might do well to observe how well Bismark co-opted the socialist and labor unionist tide,
It fails as an economic system. It also fails as a politcal system as well (as least as far as human rights are concerned). In order for there to be socialism, a socialistic discipline must be enforced. Those who dissent must be jailed, reprogrammed or eliminated altogether. There can be no dissent under socialism. The only option that people living under socialism can exercise is to escape from the system. The millions who escaped from socialistic systems (or died trying) over the last century are testament to what ‘positive image’ people who have to live under socialism actually have.
The Democrat party has a strong thread of communist/socialist/fellow travelers all the way back to John F Kennedy. Unions have had the same threads to communism only they go back further.
"It's over, it's over, it's oooverr".
What a great run this Nation had while changing the World for the better. Now, I suggest all the producers start thinking about protecting their assets. That is what I'm about. I believe there is no way back. The "takers" are now in control and I see no political movement that will change that. Bless the TEA Party and other conservatives, but they are pi**ing in the wind with the Republicans.
As my wife keeps telling me, to paraphrase, "enjoy what remains and enjoy the important things like our own relationship along with our little doggy". She agrees with being prepared, but has brought me back down from the lows of depression about Bambi being re-elected by the "gimmes".
We lost; they won. So be it. Protect your assets and your family. Do what it takes, because the end of the American dream is already upon us. It will only get worse from here...good luck, patriots.
and 47% of them are LYING!
As long as they are on the receiving end.
53 + 23 = 76% of the two parties.. if those figures are accurate..
The truth “IS”... most Americans have no idea what socialism is.. and even less what communism is..
OR that communism “IS” socialism.. or that democracy is a lie..
No democracy has ever been democratic..
Democracy is indispensable to socialism.
The goal of socialism is communism. -V.I. Lenin
The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism .-Karl Marx
of course they like socialism ...most came here from somplace else wanting free stuff or they dont want to work for what they get.
They don’t know what Socialism is.
I wrote a graduate thesis in 1974 comparing post WWII economic results of East and West Germany.
That made me a conservative. In 1976 Reagan spoke of the same comparison.
Since Reagan left the scene, few have talked much about the underlying economic aspects of the nation’s system.
The most persuasive speakers about our capitalist history and success, are either dead and gone, or not very effective.
“It will only get worse from here...good luck, patriots”
Never thought that I would need to, but, I am now shopping for my first firearm. And, I am realistic enough to know that I will be using it. I worked too damn hard for what I have.
Romney’s 47% figure was way too low looks like.
I wish more people could come to terms with what has happened to our once great nation. We allowed our population to fall to the same evil scourge that my Dad and millions of others fought and died to save us from because we allowed our principles and values to be watered down little by little.
Your wife is so right! Everyone should liquify their assets and use them for the good of themselves and their loved ones while they still can. To work and innovate so that a greedy, lazy, covetous majority can enjoy the fruits of your labors will only enable them to become stronger and more in numbers.
So many are in denial but it doesn’t change the fact that our nation has fallen and will not rise above this mortal wound. If there is any hatred by us, it shouldn’t be directed solely at Barrack Obama or the hijacked Democratic party. Much of it should be reserved for every shiftless, cowardly, low-life American who sold out their proud American heritage and birthright for government handouts and the chance to blame their troubles on someone or something besides themselves. Such human sewage isn’t what we have spent our blood and treasure to uphold and protect. Neither should decent, hardworking Americans consent to helping support them with the fruits of their labors.
If only the real supporters of the economy would find a way to put their assets out of the reach of this evil majority and let Obama and his Socialist/Marxist regime take care of their own perverted, godless voting base! Their lives literally depend on robbing and pillaging the goods and possessions of those with values, principles and a work ethic.
May you and your family be blessed.
Obamanation Communism File.
Henry Wallace FDR’s VP..
Even more damage was done to Wallace’s campaign when several prominent journalists, including H.L. Mencken and Dorothy Thompson, publicly charged that Wallace and the Progressives were under the covert control of Communists.
The solution to that has nothing to do with governance, and the fact that your coworkers sympathesize with it shows they have no understanding of economics, history, or human nature.
In America, no one is supposed to be delivering pizza as a career. The solution is to get yourself educated, or, if a professional career isn't your bag, to start your own business or learn a trade.
The result of a "remedy" in which entry level workers are financially encouraged to remain in low-skill dead-end jobs by subsidizing them is that it creates more and more people statisfied with that outcome, lowers the overall standard of living, and forces yet again more people into that very position.
If your friends actually believe that 30 million uninsured people can be brought into the healthcare system without seriously degrading the quality of care for everyone -- including those who exploit the system by going to the emergency rooms as their primary care doctors -- and if they believe that can actually be acheived by adding 50 cents to the price of a pizza, you have an affrimative obligation to point out to them that they are complete dumbasses. And an obligation to explain why.
There is no excuse whatsoever for an intelligent person to believe that a government program will be an improvement on an existing private sector solution. There is no historical or current precedent for believing that, and there are literally dozens of counterexamples staring your friends in the face right now. Ask them why FedEx and UPS are making money while a protected monopoly in the same business just lost $15 bn.
Ask them why they will go to the DMV in the capital of their state and wait literally for hours to have some surly jackass gurdgingly provide a duplicate vehicle owners card, while a private business on the other side of the state like AAA can do exactly the same thing at the same cost with virtually no waiting. Ask them why Catholic schools are able to deliver a better education at less than half of the cost of schools run by the government. Ask them why the primary and secondary education systems run by that government are among the worst in the world, while people from every corner of the planet are still calmoring to get into the private post secondary American system. Ask them why an 18 year-old tearing tickets at a movie theatre makes minimum wage, while the government employee manning a toll-booth on the Jersey Turnpike is averaging $40,000/year plus benefits for the same job.
The compassion of liberalism is a false compassion. There is nothing compassionate about encouraging human beings to be satisfied with a job a robot can do, while guilting the rest of us because we aren't sensitive enough to the plight of the downtrodden. Pizza delivery is a job for 16 and 17 year-old kids. Raising the cost of pizza means people either buy fewer pizzas or buy less of other things, including saving and investment.
Should CEO's make less money? You're damn right they should. And making sure they do is the job of their stockholders, bondholders and directors and has nothing whatsoever to do with governance and is NO business of the government. Empowering a government with carte blanche to "do nice things" sounds fabulous ... and inevitably leads to oppression, torture, and murder. Your friends (somewhere in the piles of bodies) someday will have at least the consolation that their "hearts were in the right places" before they died.
The masses who support socialism/Marxism do it in the abstract because they have never experienced it. Ask the people from Cuba or Eastern Europe who lived it first hand what their opinions are. These people are rightly terrified of what they see coming.
A majority of traitorous assholes.
Favorable image of socialism? Then they are fools ignorant of history and or they merely want to control and subjugate their fellow man. Hey lib lurkers, name me one socialist country that has succeeded in creating a happy, prosperous society? Just one. You can’t, because it has a 100% failure rate. So all you pro socialists out there, are you stupid or just mean?
As for the rest, I disagree. The poster asserts a belief of his peers, who need to be educated. The solution is not to throw up one's hands and say, "Well, I never really tried to reach them. Therefore they are unreachable."
Sorry. I'm not interested in self-fulfilling prophecies.
Thats good to know. Thanks.
If you've ever been to the Little Big Horn Battlefield you realize immediately that Custer could not have been the least bit surprised by the size of the force he was about to engage; neither was there any shortage of Southern Cheyenne Warriors on the Washita River. Custer wasn't the stupid, deranged fool portrayed in this awful dreck, and he certainly wasn't a coward.
If the snippet was intended to remind me that most of what liberal believe is BS, it was grauitous; I have no illusions about the silly crap they believe. If it's a warning that we ought to simply tolerate the falsifaction of our history and abandonment of rationality because fighting it is too dangerous, it's worse than pointless.
Rand's admonition is apt: "You can ignore evil. But you can't ignore the consequences of ignoring evil."
You’re correct, but that’s the image of Custer in people’s minds. Another great man who’s been defamed by liberals is Vice Admiral William Bligh. People like us know better, but how hard do you think it would be to change their minds about Custer or Bligh.
Furthermore, it would be useless. Let them stay in their ignorance. Instead, focus on the Pareto within the Pareto. The rest is noise, but if you can focus on the 4% that really matters you can move the world. To be effective you cannot only have the best ideas, but also the best execution. Romney wasn’t up to the task and few are.
When Jannes and Jambres contended against Moses in Pharaoh’s Court they lay the groundwork for a pattern of governance still practiced today. The most effective liberal attack is their counterfeiting operation. Clinton did it. NPR does it every day, particularly with their “Marketplace” show. Keep in mind that our modern media wasn’t born of historians or newsmen, but of vaudeville and magicians. They still practice their art today and one is being naive to think you can outpace them.
They run the schools and the media. Coopt them on the 4% and it doesn’t matter what people think of Custer or Bligh or even God.
