Jim DeMint tells Rush Limbaugh how to fix GOP, tweaks Boehner By: Kevin Cirilli December 6, 2012 01:38 PM EST

In an interview on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show on Thursday, retiring Sen. Jim DeMint offered his take for how to get the Republican party back on track - and he joked about dumping House Speaker John Boehner.

DeMint’s resignation as South Carolina senator sent shock waves through the Beltway earlier in the day, when the tea party leader announced he was leaving the Senate to become Heritage Foundation president.

“I think it’s safe to say that [House Speaker John] Boehner is not forcing either of you guys out, right?” Limbaugh asked DeMint and now-former Heritage Foundation president Ed Feulner, according to audio by The Right Scoop.

Quipped DeMint: “It might work a little bit the other way, Rush.”

DeMint also told Limbaugh he hopes to use his new role to help the GOP appeal to more Americans.

“After spending most of life in advertising and marketing and research, I know that we can do a whole lot better job of convincing the American people – winning their hearts and souls – and if we do that, then we’re going to be more effective inside of Congress and more effective at election time,” DeMint told Limbaugh,

DeMint said that Republicans should be looking at what they can do as opposed to only criticizing those across the aisle, such as Reid (D-Nev.).

He also said that he and Harry Reid were good friends and as long as Conservative are good friends with the Commies in the Democratic party, there can be no victory.

Years ago, the Iron Sheik and Hacksaw Jim Duggan were arrested for pot possession. It seems they were driving around together, "having a good time." At the time of the arrest, they were supposed to be mortal enemies.

Very, very odd thing for DeMint to do.
Quitting, praising Reid............Skeleton shaking in his closet, scandal involving him fixing to break?????????
Things that happen this quickly and this unexpectedly usually have a hidden reason.
Ain't too many pure as the driven snow in DC.........Just speculating.

>> How to fix GOP...

Resign?

I like Jim, but don’t always agree with him.

It sounds like you think Bennett and Kemp had something to do with starting Heritage Foundation. They didn't.

The Republicans don't get it. The friendship is fake -- it just goes one way.

As Rush keeps pointing out, they get seduced by the beltway culture. DeMint is an ad man--he made his fortune selling himself.

Nope....just saying that Bennett & Kemp just ran the same kind of SCAM that the Heritage Fiundation & Cato & all the rest of these founfations run. Problem was Billy & Jack were just sloppy is all so it was easier to see where the money goes.

The Senate “good ol’ boys’ club”. Harry Reid is a dirty little birdie who would stick a virtual shiv in DeMint’s back first chance he got. It’s okay to treat others the way you want to be treated; but, of course, Dhimmicrats play for keeps and don’t follow this teaching. IF I behaved the way Obama and the Dhimmicrats behave, I’d WANT someone to bust my balloon of smugness and set me straight. So, that’s where I aim to place my efforts.

Man, the liberal seminar commentators were on that article faster than white on rice. Read the comments. They are all exactly the same, just like the liberal C-Span callers.

IMO, DeMint knows it’s going to hit the fan and everyone remotely associated with D.C. is going to get hammered - Republicans and Democrats alike. He also knows that it’s too late to stop the train from going off the tracks. By 2016, people will be so angry and disgusted at the partisan bickering and continued economic decline that they will be in a “throw the bums out” mood.

He’s distancing himself now to raise money and stature for a run in 2016. He wants to be the go to idea man for the next four years. Being a minority within a minority in the boring U.S. Senate will not garner him near the exposure that this post will. I wish him all the best.

Yes I caught that! He and Reid are close friends! That said it all for me!

This statement bolstering arguments democrats and republicans are one and the same. Reid and DeMint being close friends. Pelosi sitting with Gingrich; Christie embracing Obama, etc.

Weaning myself off AM talk shows quite a bit. Maybe Bohner needs another golf game with Obama to get his talking points straight? Reading about this stuff is bad enough. Verifying it on talk radio is mind boggling.

“he wasn’t the problem.”

That was certainly a WTF moment if there ever was one. How does one consider someone like HR who is actively trying to destroy the American way of life(not the “free stuff” way of life), a friend?

Senators always refer to each other as ‘good friends’. It’s like a mobster saying ‘he’s a good fellow’ to another mobster about another mobster.

Maybe we all need to email the Heritage Foundation and tell them how we feel. DeMint acted like a jerk on Rush’s show today.

Those were the days. I remember the promo spots they would bring out the Mad Russian to insult all the women in town, so they would all go down to see that Commie get his just deserts.

That is entertainment and only affect those that choose to participate in the fraud.

The Government uses the same tactic but they have the power to force your participation.

I used to wonder how the German people could have ever gone over that cliff, now I know.

That is Senate decorum, doesn’t mean they should share hot tubs.

“This may surprise you but Harry Reid is a good friend of mine. I just walked into his office and talked to him,” DeMint said. “The problem is not Harry Reid
