Jim DeMint tells Rush Limbaugh how to fix GOP, tweaks Boehner By: Kevin Cirilli December 6, 2012 01:38 PM EST

In an interview on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show on Thursday, retiring Sen. Jim DeMint offered his take for how to get the Republican party back on track - and he joked about dumping House Speaker John Boehner.

DeMint’s resignation as South Carolina senator sent shock waves through the Beltway earlier in the day, when the tea party leader announced he was leaving the Senate to become Heritage Foundation president.

“I think it’s safe to say that [House Speaker John] Boehner is not forcing either of you guys out, right?” Limbaugh asked DeMint and now-former Heritage Foundation president Ed Feulner, according to audio by The Right Scoop.

Quipped DeMint: “It might work a little bit the other way, Rush.”

DeMint also told Limbaugh he hopes to use his new role to help the GOP appeal to more Americans.

“After spending most of life in advertising and marketing and research, I know that we can do a whole lot better job of convincing the American people – winning their hearts and souls – and if we do that, then we’re going to be more effective inside of Congress and more effective at election time,” DeMint told Limbaugh,

DeMint said that Republicans should be looking at what they can do as opposed to only criticizing those across the aisle, such as Reid (D-Nev.).

He also praised Harry Reid and said “he wasn’t the problem.” Yuck-o.

He also said that he and Harry Reid were good friends and as long as Conservative are good friends with the Commies in the Democratic party, there can be no victory.

Remember Orin Hatch often bragged that his very best friend was Ted Kennedy.

Yeah, I heard that too. Nice to know DeMint considers the descructive traitor Reid a friend. I turned off the radio after those statements.

Right on.

This just shows they are all members of the Good ole boys club.

Harry Reid belongs in one of these over the Potomac River.

In my opinion ,the Republicrat party is disintegration before our eyes.If they cave or kick the can they are as good as history. I firmly believe that the Tea Party will become an actual party and will beat republicans who are gutless in red state races in 2014. Demint is well positioned now for 2016. We will miss him in the short term.

Look everyone, when these people finally get elected to The Most Exclusive Club , they all become more "Members of the Club" than of their party. They're like trial lawyers, they try to beat each other up (some more better than others at it) in court, and they afterwards they're all at the local watering hole chumming it up, and taking sauna baths in the same stalls.

We have to have more Conservative voters, in order to win more elections, then we can have a Conservative-controlled Senate and House and enact more Conservative laws (and kill the other kind).

It’s really that simple.

Right now we need men who have marketing and communications skills like Jim DeMint helping to get more Conservative voters. Until we do that, we can’t do the rest.

And, I can’t believe people are getting suckered into trashing a good man because of a throwaway line about Harry Reid.

The minute DeMint mentioned Reid without adding, “...that slimy whore-house piece of smelly Obamastuff...” I turned Rush off.

Sorry, Reid is slime.

Always was, always will be.

And anyone who claims to be his friend is not someone I wish to associate with. I’ll miss DeMint in the senate, but I’m afraid that institution is not respectable...and has not been respectable in a long time.

The Heritage Foundation is nothing but a money machine....remember William Bennett & Big Rock Mountain Candy conservative Jack Kemp setting up a “consevative think tank” in D.C. to pump money out of the sheep so Billy Bennett could spend 10 million dollars feeding slot machines in Vegas...

I think that is true.

I can definitely see DeMint and Reid having a pleasant drink together.
The thing is:
If it came right down to it, I'm sure that Harry Reid would stick a knife in the back of his good friend Jim DeMint -- if Harry felt he had "a good reason".
And I suspect that Jim DeMint might put friendship above all else, and absolutely refuse to ever stick a knife in the back of his good friend Harry Reid.

The Republicans don't get it. The friendship is fake -- it just goes one way.

Again I say, it is not a question of if but when we move out as we know the Divorce is coming.

What will be the tipping point and the "Santelli Rant / Moment" that does it.

I suspect the beltway knows it.

Dr Bennett in the Mornings is a bit of a plugged in Rino and the other morning said something to the effect don't throw the party out yet and it really caught my ear. IMHO they know it too, It sucks to be them and us all, because when it happens we will be in the dessert for probably at least 8 yrs IMHO....

Same here.

Reid is the kind of “friend” that although he will stick a knife in your kidney, he will only twist it once before he pulls it out.

DeMint said that he is good friends with Harry Reid, ah, the world turned upside down. Don’t agree with his resigning four years into his term, a guy like DeMint is more important in the Senate than at the Heritage Foundation of which I am a member. I think the Republicans are in full retreat and that’s akin to cowardice, IMHO.
