Hey, Fat Cat Unions: Pay Your “Fair Share”

Message for wealth-bashing millionaire actor Ed Asner: Man up and take responsibility for lying to America's schoolchildren.

Confronted by a producer for Fox News Channel's "The Sean Hannity Show" this week, the left-wing celebrity claimed he couldn't remember "a thing (he) said" on a vile propaganda video produced and published by the California Federation of Teachers. Asner narrated the unforgettable eight-minute anti-capitalist screed geared toward children.

Think Occupy Wall Street meets Sesame Street. "Things go downhill in a happy and prosperous land after the rich decide they don't want to pay taxes anymore," Asner warbles in a folksy grandpa voice. After education reform journalist Kyle Olson of EAGNews.org blew the whistle on the film's vulgar cartoon depiction of a "rich" man urinating on the "poor," the teachers union whitewashed the animated images from the video.

While the Occupy-cheerleading teachers have to concoct such fantasy scenes, informed Americans remember that it was the Occupiers themselves who openly defecated in the streets. What's even more grossly comical is the sight of pampered Asner shilling for the "progressive" war on prosperity while ignoring Big Labor's own self-serving evasion of their "fair share" in taxes.

The California Federation of Teachers, an AFL-CIO affiliate that rakes in an estimated $22 million in coerced dues, enjoys nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(5) status. So does CFT's larger counterpart, the California Teachers Association, which collects a whopping $300 million in annual dues. While they burn through mountains of dues lobbying for everyone else to pay higher taxes, these Democratic partisan heavies pay nothing in either federal or state income taxes. Zero, zip, nada. In theory, the unions are entitled to this special status because their "primary" purpose is to "secure better working conditions, wages and similar benefits" for their members.

A$ner is an A$$, always has been and always will be. It's no surprise he's pimping for the CTA, CFT and AFL-CIO.

I wish I knew. For too many years now most Republicans haven't attacked any entity to stand for what's right, including Dems.

If any of their money goes to political activity, the tax exemption should be pulled entirely.

Wonder if communist Asner is living in Beverly Hills with all his residuals from the Mary Tyler Moore show and other acting jobs for decades, or in a one bedroom apartment in Encino.

I hate these limousine hypocrites. Yes, I really do HATE them. Guess I should be brought up on hate charges.

Absolutely unions should pay taxes. The bulk of the money goes for political candidates (corruption) and high living for the big shots.

They’re about to lose their crown jewel. Michigan may very well be a right to work state by midnight. The right to work bill has passed in the house, now it goes to the GOP majority senate.

Take at peek at the state capital in Michigan, the unions are taking it ‘dry and ruff’ at this very moment.

Michigan is passing RTW right now!

Thanks for linking the article.

I saw that this morning and it's Great News! I'd like to think this and the Wisconsin thing is going to be a trend but the Rats and union thugs will fight viciously. Still, there are many that are getting their belly full of unions.

We could also consider the case of tax-exempt foundations. These entities only have to give away 5% of their assets each year to maintain their tax exemption. Since they have self-appointing boards, no customers and no shareholders, as long as they have assets they can pretty much do as they please.

The problem is that a competent investment manager can normally earn more than 5% return so tax-exempt foundations have eternal life. I don’t think the founding fathers would have approved of the creation of permanent entities that are free to muck around in society and to attempt to influence elections, like many of the big leftist (er, now “progressive”) foundations do.

The fix is easy- just raise the required payout, maybe to something like 7.5%. This would make foundations mortal. They would gradually spend out their assets and then go out of business. Since foundations hold between 4 and 5% of the GDP in investments, this would boost the amount of money that they payout in salaries and grants thus exposing this money to the normal government predation we call the income tax system. If we do this, we could eventually say bye-bye to the Soros, Tides and Ford Foundation.

Well said, I agree.

Am not really familiar with the pay out percentage but what would be wrong with raising it to somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 to 20%? I seems to me this could very possibly eliminate the scams.

This is probably the only “work” the old dried-up ingrate of an “actor”(???) could find. What an embrassment.
