As we debate whether the two parties can ever come together and get things done, heres something President Obama could probably do by himself that would be a signal accomplishment of his presidency: End the war on terror. Or, more realistically, start planning and preparing the country for phasing it out.
For 11 years, the United States has been operating under emergency wartime powers granted under the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force. That is a longer period than the country spent fighting the Civil War, World War I and World War II combined. It grants the president and the federal government extraordinary authorities at home and abroad, effectively suspends civil liberties for anyone the government deems an enemy and keeps us on a permanent war footing in all kinds of ways.

Now we just to figure out what else to cut to save $995 billion dollars.
Zakaria propagandizing for the enemy again. How many Tokyo Roses are in our press nowadays?
Yep. And it is people like him that scream the loudest, longest, and most indignantly when Americans die in a surprise attack.
Oh, I forgot. That only happens when someone like Reagan or Bush are in office.
Doesn’t this clown realize that radical Islam on the other side of this war is not going to stop? It is a war about civilizations. The 9th century versus the 21th century.
Zakaria made more sense when he plagiarized.
Yes indeed. The silence nowadays is just deafening, on that issue . . .
I assume that Fareed is college educated.
Does he know what exponential notation is?
For starters, eliminate the EPA, Dept. of Education, energy dept., HUD, and any other unconstitutional commissions and FIRE EVERYONE THAT WORKS FOR THEM!!!!
I personally don’t see the point anymore when it would be a lot cheaper to keep them out of America and let them go back to killing each other.
As it is we face as much danger from our “allies” in the mideast as we do the enemy.
It shouldn’t be called war on terror, sorry but´s that’s just typical political correctness, we are a war with Islam, and yes we need a war on Islam.
I agree 100% with Lt. Col. Matthew A. Dooley on how to fight with Islam, Total war and use nukes on major muslim citys.
“Doesnt this clown realize that radical Islam on the other side of this war is not going to stop?”
What Homeland Security does doesn’t deter them one bit, what they try to do is totally worthless!!
Since many or maybe everyone has never heard of him, I looked him up. The author proclaims on his website that:
“Fareed Zakaria hosts CNNs flagship foreign affairs show, is Editor-at-Large of TIME Magazine, a Washington Post columnist, and a New York Times bestselling author. Esquire Magazine called him the most influential foreign policy adviser of his generation.
and his site includes some fairly well-written articles that distort things rather severely insofar as America (and some other important matters) are concerned. If he is so “influential” then we are in trouble...
remember that picture of Obama holding that book, something about a Post-America World??
Guess who wrote it?
We need to win so they fear us or get the hell out.
If we can’t declare full victory after a decade, then we’ve lost, period.
At the rate we’re going, we’ll have soldiers over there saying “My great granddad built this base”.
Make to tell the muzzies the war on terror is over. They will need to be reminded.
We could start saving money by not subsidizing the defense of Europe, Japan and Korea. Let them pay for it.
Seems like our founders had some feelings about oppression under the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.
Yes, let's rename it: "The War on Moslem Countries" and let the nuking commence in 15 minutes.
