Dems look to Obama to punish Michigan over labor vote

LANSING, Mich. A top Michigan Democrat is looking to President Obama to deliver retribution to Republicans after the GOP-dominated state legislature approved a package of bills that could make this stronghold of union power the nations 24th right-to-work state as early as next week.
Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer, who on Thursday called the votes to approve the right-to-work measure petty and vindictive politics, sparked more backlash Friday when she said she wants the president, who is set to visit Detroit on a previously scheduled political trip on Monday, to push back on Republican Gov. Rick Snyder by holding back federal money for a new international bridge project to Canada and a badly needed mass-transit program in ailing Detroit.
We are hoping that when President Obama comes to Michigan next week, that this is going to be on his radar screen, that hes going to say Michigan doesnt care about their middle class, [so] why should we be bending over backwards to make sure that this governor is able to deliver on his promise, said Mrs. Whitmer in an interview with local radio station WWJ.
Her remarks, amid calls from other Democrats and union leaders to use all legal means necessary to stop the bills from becoming law, drew a stern rebuke from WJR host Frank Beckmann, in Detroit, who wondered on his program Friday if Mrs. Whitmer, considered a possible gubernatorial candidate in 2014, might want to reconsider her words.
This should immediately disqualify her for any consideration to run for governor, Mr. Beckmann said. Taking the interests of the entire state of Michigan, the entire region of Detroit, holding them hostage because you object to legislation that has passed in 23 other states and has caused great economic growth?
Thats outrageous.

This is so far out even for a Rat to say this publicly.
We all know it goes on behind the scenes but this is “in your face” flat out entitlement and retribution from Whitmer.

I remember the days when government officials were expected to obey the law, instead of just making things up to punish their enemies. Judging by this White House and its supporters, those days are gone.

Exactly...Perhaps after a few days that solid red thing that's blocking her vision because of this vote will subside and she'll regain some reason, but probably not.

This is actually what returning power to the grass-roots has always been about.
The climax over the fight will be the Federal Gov't threatening to deny all kinds of Washington money to the States.
If conservatives are serious about getting power back they will say "go ahead and pull the money". They will then work to be self-sufficient since freedom has always required that.

Typical. Liberals think a Presidents job is to “Get Even” and “Punish” people. These people have no idea what our founders had in mind when they formed our Country....THEY MUST ALL BE DEFEATED!

The thirty or so Conservative state governors need to organize. They need to get together and when one is attacked, they need to go to Obama and tell him where to go. There is power in numbers and if they do it as a block they can wield considerable power.

Telling him to withhold Detroit bacon? As far as the bridge is concerned, we only have to pay for the land on our end and Canada is paying for the bridge itself. Besides, construction on the bridge is still several years away.

Holding back the mass transit money didn't seem all that bad to me but was surprised Whitmer would suggest it, Rats live for that kind of money:)
Had no idea about the bridge but if that's the case it seems Canada wants it worse than us.

I haven’t figured out what’s going on here but there’s more than meets the eye. I noticed immediately after the election there was some prodding for the democrats to fight among themselves.
The day after the election Obama’s de facto DREAM act kids protested the fact that they can’t get diver’s licenses. Our secretary of state told them to take it up with Obama because he put them in their limbo and it wasn’t her job to fix it.

"If you write, direct, edit, shoot, or do sound for me on my next movie, you will not work for me unless you belong to the union," [Michael] Moore insisted on Friday. Since only lefties would want to work on Moore's notorious movies anyway, that shouldn't be too much of a problem!

I don’t know whether it was Moore’s last movie or not, but he paid people minimum wage and didn’t pay health benefits. People worked part-time.

“One day during production on the first season of the show, Moore called two of his writers into his office. It was, for both of them, their first job in television, and they had been hired with the title of associate producer. They were not members of the Writers Guild, the powerful union for writers in movies and TV, and thus were not receiving health benefits, and would not qualify later for a percentage of video and rerun sales. Michael said, Im getting a lot of heat from the union to call you guys writers and pay you under the union rules, Eric Zicklin, one of the associate producers, says. I dont have the budget for that. But if they keep coming down on me thatll mean Ill only be able to afford one of you and the other ones gotta go.
Soon more employees who supported Mr. Moore in his political crusade became disillusioned with their former boss...”

So...what we got here is a senior Senator of a state who publicly asks the President of the United States to punish that same state by withholding funds. A Senator who, by any common-sensical gauge, is supposed to be looking out for the state. And, who's publicly asking the President of the United States to punish that same state by withholding funds.
Is marijuana legal there too?
