The irony is that he was transferred to the Indianapolis after leaving the WV, they tracked him down and gave him his awards (Navy Cross) and eventually someone said it wasn’t ‘fair’ that White Heroes got to come back to the States for recruiting appearances, they brought him back, he did his tour and the ship he was assigned to next was sunk at Tarawa and Miller was missing and presumed dead.
