Ex-Dixon official's home: Pool, baby grand, chandelier with pistols
Associated Press
4:15 p.m. CST, December 7, 2012

Rita Crundwell spared no expense when she built and furnished her sprawling home with custom touches like a chandelier made of old revolvers and spurs, an in-ground pool and a baby grand piano in the wood-beamed living room.

**SNIP**

And she did it all, Crundwell has admitted, by stealing $53 million from the people of Dixon, embezzling the money over two decades while serving as comptroller in the city that was Ronald Reagan's boyhood home. The 59-year-old pleaded guilty last month and will be sentenced Feb. 14. She was allowed to remain free until then and still faces 60 separate state felony charges for theft in Lee County. She has pleaded not guilty to those charges.

She did have some expenses, but I’m not sure they add up to $53 million. Plus, she was making $80,000 a year salary. I’d take a look at the Democrat party books, too.

Her job was an appointed job. Guess which party appointed her? (D).

Since she's a (D), her sentence will 37 months at "Camp Cupcake", the cushiest prison the feds run for well-connected female felons. She will be sent to a halfway house after about 18 months have gone by.

At least that's how it works for Monica Conyers, (D)(Detroit). Although she petitioned the judge for a complete pardon based on her importance to the community, her role as a role model, her connections to more important people, and her membership in "Eric Holder's People" group.

The judge ignored her plea, so she complained about the brutal conditions she was confined in. Nobody gave her special privileges, despite her importance. She could not get a second desert, there was just basic cable in her room, and work in the laundry room was demeaning to one of her stature and family background.

All that torture, just for copping a plea on a measly $7000 bribe.

Just like the IRS sending over 2000 tax refunds to the same address, it is not the government worker’s money, so they don’t care.

Show’s how stupid dems really are. She should have set up and offshore account and after 10 years of getting away with it, she should have taken a vacation to the Bahamas and never came back. I wonder just how she managed to keep this hidden for 20 years. Anyone want to bet she “shared the wealth” with at least one person and probably more.

Over two decades and the town didn’t figure it out? What the hell, didn’t the city fathers ever do an audit?

This is supposed to be “civilization.” Nobody questioned the books for 20 years. I wonder how much of this stuff a nationwide audit would unearth.

You would think anybody with a brain would send the money offshore, retire to Costa Rica and live like a king for the rest of your life. Nobody would know the difference. If they hadn’t found it in 20 years they never would have.

But... they cannot resist living in the here and now.

At least she might be put to work paving roads or some such that would benefit the tax payers......

That’s exactly what we should be doing with the people on welfare.

"He said $53 million could have done a lot of good for a lot more people. "It could have paid for city hall, it could have paid for the police and fire, it could have paid for our water and sewer treatment plant, we could have had better roads and possibly our citizens' taxes could have been lower," said Considine"

$53 million has been downgraded from where it was - reminds me of Austin Powers set to demand a million dollars and his aide whispers in his ear before he decides to demand a billion dollars...

This is pretty near to where I live.

There is no way that she was the only one on the take. For starters the bank had to know (she was writing checks to herself, which she should not have been able to do).

They did many audits, but she was the one doing them.

She got “caught” when an AccountTemp was brought in to cover for her over vacation. The temp wasn’t in on it, and called the FBI (not the local or state cops).

I wonder who else was on the take.

Guess which party appointed her? (D).

Greed is really an extreme form of envy, which is why most greedy people are leftists. 'tics claim Republicans are the greedy ones when actually the 'tics are just projecting their envy onto their wealthier targets. Most "greed" brought up by the MSM is not real greed, but this story is a typical example of the real McCoy, including the signature (D) mark.
