MOUNT PLEASANT (AP) — Central Michigan University has decided to add two women's sports, saying it's an effort to strengthen sexual equality in athletics.

The Mount Pleasant school's trustees voted Thursday to add women's golf in 2014-15 and women's lacrosse in 2015-16.

this is a good move if and only if there is an interest... a market... meaning they are getting a lot of feedback saying, “why don’t you offer women’s golf, or why isn’t there a women’s la cross team? we want to play!” if they are adding it just to add it, well, what good is that? i know... it keeps them in compliance...

The 1972 federal law requires equal opportunity for males and females in public education sports programs.

Like to see men try out for the women's sport team where there is no corresponding men's team. Then get a bowl popcorn and watch the fireworks.

As a CMU graduate that got a real degree (math) and enjoyed his party time. I think this is great.

Let the Women’s sports pay for themselves. Going topless is usally a help unless they look like Janet Reno.

So CMU (the mighty Chips) should expect women to bring in as many funds as men’s sports (e.g. Football). How about Pole dancing as part of the fund raising?

Good luck to the coeds.

If they want gender equality they should have one golf team and let the ladies try out for it. Ditto for all sports.

If there are already men’s teams at the school...

If they can’t get suffcient numbers of women to create the teams the odds are that, to be equal, they will do away with the men’s teams.

That has been the ploy at a number of schools.

CMU could have begun a trend by dropping football to beat the coming concussions shutdown. Not likely now that they got into the Little Caesar's Bowl (in Detroit Dec. 26) with their lackluster 6 and 6 record.

Lacrosse will draw almost as many Chippewa fans as football has drawn in their last few home games.

Oh yeah, “Chippewas” not very PC, eh? How about changing the nickname to “Chipmunks?”

Fire up Chips!
