Unsuspecting supermarket employee finds handgun in container of frozen ribs
The Daily Mail Online ^ | December 7, 2012 | Daily Mail Reporter

An unsuspecting supermarket employee got an alarming surprise this week.

The worker at an Albertsons store in Roswell, New Mexico, opened a container of frozen ribs Wednesday and found a .38 super semi-auto handgun along with seven rounds of ammunition packaged with the meat.

He brought the firearm and ammo to a local police department at about 2pm that afternoon and authorities are beginning to piece together some preliminary clues, a police public relations liaison said.

However, since the unidentified employee cleaned the pistol before turning it in, tracing its origin has not been easy, authorities say.

There are no fingerprints to go by and as of now there is little indication why the gun was packaged separately in the container the frozen meat.

Very strange story, you would think the police would have been called as soon as he discovered it. His actions make it seem he was going to just keep it and then decided to turn it in.

I'm surprised the doughnut-eaters didn't just arrest and charge him.

A lot less bother that way.

An unsuspecting supermarket employee found the gun and BROUGHT it to the police, after HE cleaned it....

Guess he could not have notified his supervisor first? Is there no longer a chain of command? Maybe he had thoughts of keeping it.

"The Sopranos" fans will remember what Furio did with Richie.

I'd be concerned about the origin of those ribs!

Could be a great marketing idea! Like a toy in a cereal box, a different gun with every rack of ribs.

.38 super? Never heard of it. But googled it and found this:
It was once asked if there were going to be a 9mm magnum in the works. I believe it was the late Skeeter Skelton, that replied that "...there already is. It is the .38 Super..."
Hmmm, interesting...

Hey Freepers just to let you know there is a con artist from Poland named Pawel Nowak who stung me on the net due to my dumbness for not checking him out first. I purchased a mag for my Radom vis-35 thinking I got a deal well I did right in the shorts. So check everyone out and don’t do Western Union. Yeah I know. Thanks

Ought to be in the NCIC if hot. It’s likely recorded elsewhere if not.

I’m hoping my next hamburger has a machine gun in it. With a side order of ammo.

"Is there no longer a chain of command? Maybe he had thoughts of keeping it. "

These days you never know who is going to freak out over something as lame as a .22LR brass.

Yep, it might be thoughtful to clean it up to see if it's useful.

There is only one DISTURBING element of this story, which seems missed by all:

“A police report shows that the meat came from the Swift Packing Plant in Greeley, Colorado, and is marked with the date June 8, 2011.”

Who the hell is selling 18 month old meat for public consumption???

OK FReepers: Question ... if you find a handgun or a rifle are you required to report it or is that a finders-keepers scenario?

Is it any different than any other valuable object that you find?

You would probably not want to keep it since if it had ever been used in a crime the ballistics could be traceable to the gun and you as the owner if you ever used it for some reason — and then you would have some real splainin’ to do.

I would 'splain that I found it in a package of frozen ribs I bought at the Albertson's in Roswell, NM.

Maybe it was planted by an alien.
