A 27-year-old mother of two has been fatally shot by an off-duty sheriff's deputy after he suspected her of shoplifting at a Houston Walmart.
Harris County Sheriff's deputies have said that victim Shelly Frey, Tisa Andrews and Yolanda Craig were stealing when they were confronted by Louis Campbell a 26-year veteran of the force who works as a security guard at the store.
According to Campbell the women ran to their car and when he rushed to open the door, they accelerated away - at which point he fired the deadly shot into the car which hit Frey in the neck.

Tragically, Frey wasn't even supposed to be at a Walmart that evening.
Earlier in the year she pleaded guilty to stealing shirts and a package of meat from another Walmart and as part of her plea arrangement she agreed to never enter Walmart stores again.

Family: Mother suspected of shoplifting at Walmart didnt deserve to die
.... and if you're a responsibe parent, you don't go out at night and steal from stores or try to run-over people.
That’ll learn her.

I see she had enough money for nose jewelry.
To bad he missed the other two.
Response: Good for the security guard.
According to this story and others, the “security guard” was an off duty police officer and was in uniform. It’s possible that the officer thought he was going to be run over. We don’t know for sure because writers seem to get foggy when it comes to details that could justify the officer’s actions.
It's Texas. They'll probably be charged with murder for her death.
A few more incidents like this in select locations around the country and it will be safer to shop at Wal Mart.
What part of taking down a licence plate vs use of deadly force did this BOZO not understand? This lady may be a shop lifter, but last I noticed it did not carry the death penalty.
Killed for a couple of steaks... wonderful...
Guess they train them Off duty cops well on how to kill women, children and dogs. If a citizen should shoot a fleeing theif that poses no threat to their life, they could end up in prison for murder.
I am disgusted at how little life is held as treasure these days. Do something people don’t like and you get the thumbs down in the Arena.
Stupid, stupid man.
;-\
EBT FAIL sneak preview. I don’t want to be anywhere near a WalMart when the SHTF. After that security guard runs out of rounds, he’ll be beaten to a bloody pulp by the mob of rabid Obamites grabbing their “fair share”.
Fair point. I guess she could've swiped the makeup and hair color as well. I'd guess that some Mexican influence is seeping into "beauty parlors" in the Texas 'hood, though, as evidenced by those Sharpie eyebrows.
The guy was standing in the door, she was driving away. First off, listen to you guys. Kill her the *****! Good riddance! Get a grip guys! This guy was firing at a fleeing car in a walmart shopping lot. No backstop for his bullets! Except a few people pushing shopping carts I guess. This was police state slaughter and you all are jumping on the band wagon. For shame.
I hope that you mean something different from what that says...
Note that the source of this news is Great Britain—not an American source!!!
Who believes that the media isn’t in bed with Obama??? Ha Ha.

Death for shoplifting?
I could have been shot dead in 5th grade.
I assume you folks are not being serious with your responses, at least I hope so. If she was trying to run him over it becomes a different tale. However, my experience with some security guards has left me less than impressed.
And a Halloween costume.
Last time I saw a mouth like that it had a hook in it.
She kinda looks like Devine the transvestite who used to star in old John Watters movies.
The article also says he may have been "knocked off balance" or something, causing the handgun to discharge. Very sketchy, but it sure doesn't sound like a "She was going to run over me..." situation.
I think the real news here is that the “victim,” who is 27 years old, only has children. By 27, I would expect her to have at least 10 or 12.
Well, she won’t have trouble keeping her promise to not go to another Walmart. I would hope that the other two people with her decide they need to make better choices in the future. And, of course, I am sure we’ll have another protest led by Quanell X soon.
Perfect criminal who couldn’t hold to the rules of her prior plea bargain for shoplifting at another Wal Mart earlier this year.
Dad—what did you ACTUALLY KNOW about your ‘daughter’?????
“She was such a good boy.”
We used to hang horse-thieves. Gotta say, I hate thieves, gangsters, taggers, all the petty criminals that are turning this country into a sewer. I’m not going to feel bad for people who get hurt or killed while doing this sort of thing.
As much as I want to see the lady stopped and prosecuted, what she did was not a capital offense.
The officer should have taken down the license of the vehicle, and passed it on to officers on duty when they arrived.
That being said, this was hardly a perfect mom. Perfect moms don’t expose themselves to danger when they are responsible for children at home.
Perfect daughters don’t expose their parents to unreasonable responsibility if they have to go to jail or worse.
Shelton, when you go out to screw with others, it often backfires.
Good daughters may go out dancing, to eat, to see a movie, just to hang with friends, or other positive things. They also do things that involve their children too. They don’t go out to steal.
I was about to say the same thing. Only a transvesite would wear that much makeup.
They are absolutely serious and post number four is the reason. Very common behavior among a small % of freepers.
This does not sound like a good shoot to me. Legal, maybe, as in TX I think you can use deadly force to protect property (which I support) but shooting in a Wal-mart parking lot? Not a good idea.
There better be more to this story than this. You don’t shoot someone dead just for shoplifting. WalMart is looking at a giant lawsuit here. Talk about an over reaction.
I am in Houston and I saw this on our local news last night. They said the officer was being dragged by the car and feared he was going to go under it and be run over. They showed a photo of his shoes in the parking lot where he was pulled out of them.
It is a sad statement that this person, Frey, chose to steal, repeatedly, and that society and common culture has inferred to her that there is ambiguity in whether it is wrong, against-the-law, inherently dangerous to engage in that activity. It should have been so clear to her that she would dare not do such a thing. But, she did, and now many peoples lives, not the least of which her 2 children, will forever be without her. Her choice. Her choices consequences.
And those earrings, which appear to be made from ugly, sequined Mardi Gras neckties from the '70s.
After chasing Frey and the other two women to their car, Campbell opened the door and commanded them to stop, but the car was placed in drive and moved forward. 'I think it knocked him off balance and, in fear of his life and being ran over, he discharged his weapon at that point,' said Thomas Gilliland, Harris County Sheriffs Office.
The police should charge the driver with her death.
Perhaps the officer thought she was someone’s pet dog.
Tried to speed away. Hmmm. Officer standing in the open door.
If she was in a parking space, speeding away would be backing out of that space.
That would put the officer in mortal peril of being knocked over by the door and the angled door guiding him right under the front wheel.
I think I’ll reserve judgement until I have more facts.
I never go unarmed into a Walmart.
Okay, that puts things in a different light.
The cop was involved with a car, read that weapon, trying to drive away, read that being used as a weapon against him, when he fired his weapon to defend himself from this assault. He had every right to do so and he had the authority of his badge to command them to stop. These ladies, mainly the driver, made a choice not to obey the officer and then to try and run him over with the car. This was not a simple shop lifting situation.
You assume the reporter is giving you all of the facts??
How many times did he shoot? Did he even intend to fire the gun? I don’t think we know at this point.
Holy cow.

= = = = = == = == = = == = == = =
Tragically? Yes, for the Deputy.
Without her promise, chances are she would have been in jail, BUT because she ‘promised’, she was out.
Maybe she had her fingers crossed when she ‘GAVE HER SOLEMN WORD’ to a Judge.
The line ‘Because I am a scorpion and I couldn’t help myself because that is what us scorpions do.’ Comes to mind.
That makes it self defense in my book, and everyone (except Israel, of course!) has an absolute right of self defense!
