During the early 1970’s the “assault weapon” on a Nuclear Attack Submarine was a Thompson Sub-machine gun. Back before the greenies stopped us from dumping at sea, we used to throw the old fluorescent light bulb tubes in the sea, and sink them by shooting them up with the Tommy Gun. We did this surfaced, outside the 12 mile limit of course!

I had the occasion to fire one of those - in Canada, which might surprise some people. Couldn’t hit the side of a barn door with it - too heavy for me. Still, it was fun.
