I'd certainly be in favor of getting rid of it entirely, but if there's an income tax, I think making it entirely flat from the richest to the poorest would be a pretty hard sell.

It would be a hard sell. It is however the moral and just thing to do. Further requiring everyone to really pay their fair share, people would be appalled at how much was required of them. Government would subsequently shrink accordingly. Personally I favor a national retail sales tax and complete repeal of of the 16th amendment. IMHO this and repeal or circumvention of the 17th amendment would go a long way to correcting the political problems of this nation.
