A chump like Weiner was involved, enough said.

Welcome to the 21st century — vice and corruption are supposed to win, and males are supposed to get trampled.

The Triumph of Civic Virtue depicts a nude male warrior symbolizing civic virtue trampling two women, the sirens of vice and corruption. It's not that they represent women that's bothering them, it's that they represent NY politicians.
To: ConservativeStatement
It would probably be ok if it was a woman trampling
two men. Anyway sirens were historically women because
of their appealing voices.
I hate this PC crap

It’s only vice and corruption when women do it. It’s virtue when guys do it.

Well, it would definitely be a welcome addition at Green-Wood. For those not from the area, Green-Wood is a really old cemetery with a who's who of historical New Yorkers -- predating Brooklyn being part of NYC for that matter -- back to the days when cemeteries were also parks where people could walk. It was a tourist attraction then, and there are bus tours of it now. (Though it was odd seeing the bus loading up off to the side of the gate as we were leaving after a service.)
Here's a wiki link.

Betcha if the guy was trampling a couple of nuns (or other representation of a female Christian), many of the same crowd would be clamoring to protect it.
I think the sculpture rocks, btw.

I go out of my way to use non-PC language. When I am forced to use it, it is always with a snicker.

Since some call television “art,” I’ll use the comparison of violence against males to promote products in TV ads or even shows. How many sitcoms have men being slapped across the face in the name of humor? The current Fiat TV ad displays a woman slapping a man across the face on a street corner. That is allowed. Imagine if a male slapped a woman across the face, for anything, yet alone to sell an automobile?
To: SkyDancer
Its only vice and corruption when women do it. Its virtue when guys do it. Then why is Satan always depicted as a male? For God's sake, what's next? Are we going to rewrite the Medusa as a male just so the PC crowd doesn't get it's panties in a wad? It's a piece of sculpture done in the classical style. You have to work really hard to be offended by it. I sincerely hope you were joking.

The same idiots who are protesting this are the ones demanding that we protect the “freedom of expression” for sacriligeous portrayals.

Though a crucifix in urine is deemed arte extraordinaire by essentially the same crowd that would condemn this.

I'd say this sttue was directed at the women's movement...prohibition and the vote.
Men don't have any rights?
Imagine a statue of a man and woman and their children crushing two females. Now how would you interpret that....and what are the chances of that happening??
But art at a major museum depicting God and dung in the same breath....that's okay??
To: ConservativeStatement
What's so sexist about this statue? It's Greek! FPS
The male nude is gay. The two "females" were formerly known as Chuck and Barry before their sex change operation.
To: SkyDancer
Well honey, if women want to create a rich tapestry of myths and if a woman wants to carve a wonderful statue based on those myths we men certainly won’t mind. Complaining about the men who actually did those things is easier and more satisfying though.
I miss the days when women were women (and gloried in being women) and didn’t sound like perpertually jealous little brothers.
To: SunTzuWu
Males created the statue, which depicts sirens as women because males created the myths.
When a man first came up with the idea of a siren, who lures you with its beautiful voice/form to your destruction, he made it female.
Because it had to be. Because heterosexual men are very unlikely to be lured to their deaths by a male voice, no matter how melodic. Men would be yelling “shut the hell up, will you” from passing ships. You’d end up “luring” in a bunch of angry guys who wanted to chop your head off.
Male sirens...now there’s a truly horrifying mythical creature.

Liberal, even non-liberal, artists will NEVER again do ANY piece of work with a woman depicted in less than a superior position to a male.....NEVER.
They certainly don't want their artistic labors ending up in a cemetary or at the bottom of the East River.
So much for those age-old sexist paintings of the Blessed Virgin Mary prostrated at Jesus' feet under the cross.

I should have realized that. You are quite sensible. What are you doing up? Isn’t it 4 AM where you are?
