Add This Group To Obama's Winning Coalition:'Religiously Unaffiliated'

...as we close the book on the election, it bears noting that another less obvious bloc of key swing state voters helped the president win a second term.

They're the "nones" — that's the Pew Research Center's shorthand for the growing number of American voters who don't have a specific religious affiliation. Some are agnostic, some atheist, but more than half define themselves as either "religious" or "spiritual but not religious," Pew found in a recent survey.

They are typically younger, more socially liberal than their forebears, vote Democratic, and now make up nearly 20 percent of the country's population. Exit polls suggest that 12 percent of voters on Election Day were counted as "religiously unaffiliated."

"This really is a striking development in American politics," says Gregory Smith of the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life. "There's no question that the religiously unaffiliated are a very important, politically consequential group."

The religiously unaffiliated voters are almost as strongly Democratic as white evangelicals are Republican, polls show.

I know this is no shock to FReepers...the irreligious enthusiastically support the irregligious Obamugabe.

(In fact, Obamugabe--and the irreligious DO worship a god: whether it be materialism, science, sex, themselves, or some ideology...)

The Democrat Party: The Party of the Ungodly

Psalm 1:6: “ The Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.”

Wait until they find out their only religion will be a slave to the one world government.

From the article:

Nationally, Obama lost the Protestant vote by 15 points, won the Catholic vote by 2 points, and captured 70 percent of the “nones.”

Indeed. Unless Mohammedanism beats them to it.

The evidence continues to pour in that we are indeed in the End Times. This country is doomed. Time to get right with the Lord if you aren’t already.

Your blanket statement is not only factually wrong, but also indicative of sloppy thinking.
I (an agnostic), and many people I know, are irreligious and despise what Obama and those like him stand for. I worship none of the ideologies that you listed and you and I probably share every basic value, with the exception of a religion. I have spent decades defending Christians, Christianity and our country’s Christian founding against the slurs of the leftists and atheists. Idiotic slurs like yours make me wonder if I should continue to bother to do so.

If all that is true, then you very well know that you are an exception, your outrage at a fairly accurate statement that you probably know is mostly true, is surprising.

I replied in the way that I did, because I know many who think like I do. You would be surprised at how many think like I do and just shut about it as to not offend those who we agree with on pretty much everything else. The animosity aimed at us is evidence that maybe my friends who remain silent are smarter than I am......

Yes, well, the judgmental attitude you project appears to be the same one you accuse me of having. :)

Nevertheless, everyone has a god, whether one acknowledges the fact or denies the same. I won’t argue the point, as one’s life reveals this truth.

My point, just to clarify, was not to offend anyone. I am happy to live in a country where we are free to disagree. I believe nations founded by atheistic ideologies are much more restrictive regarding such freedoms.

I don’t know how you know so many like you, because they are rare among conservatives.

The democrats own the atheist vote, and that is very natural.

There are exceptions and you are one, but it is like conservative blacks having to know that the black vote will be discussed in general terms among conservatives, they can’t expect to always see disclaimers for the rare exceptions that exist.

I am not an atheist. It is fairly easy to find the agnostic and non-religious among us. Look for the ones who you agree with on most things who clam up when professions of faith are forthcoming. There are more than you think. There are also more conservative blacks than you think. For the most part they are quiet about it.

Well, it all sounds very mysterious and secretive since you are so cryptic about it, but since Obama got 96% of the black vote in 2008, it turns out that there are far fewer black conservatives than I thought, so you are wrong about me and what I thought.
