Will Saddam’s WMDs Fall into the Hands of Al Qaeda?

by Daniel Greenfield

Probably one of the most despicable lies perpetrated by the Democratic Party was the claim that Saddam Hussein had no WMDs. It was a lie of political convenience by a party whose top politicians had asserted the exact opposite until it became more convenient for them to jump on a new bandwagon.

After all that there would be a certain historical irony if Saddam’s WMDs were indeed finally found, but by Islamist terrorists into whose hands they fell after almost a decade of liberal political malfeasance culminating in their irresponsible support for the Sunni side in the Syrian Civil War.

Let’s map what that would look like

1. The Democrats sabotaged the Iraq War by preventing any enforcement action against the Syrian origin of the suicide bombers and terror squads in the early days of the post-war period. Meanwhile Syrian WMDs had been smuggled into Syria.

2. The Democrats took power and then backed an Arab Spring that put Syria into the crosshairs of the Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaeda, exposing the WMDs to those terrorists.

3. Either the terrorists get their hands on the WMDs, in which case the likelihood of them being used on the US or Israel is very high.

4. Alternatively Syria turns them over to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard which ships them to Iran.

But back to the story

As the regime of Bashar Assad disintegrates, the security of his chemical arsenal is in jeopardy. The No. 2 general in Saddam Hussein’s air force says they were the WMDs we didn’t find in Iraq.

In 2006, former Iraqi general Georges Sada, second in command of the Iraqi Air Force who served under Saddam Hussein before he defected, wrote a comprehensive book, “Saddam’s Secrets.”

It details how the Iraqi Revolutionary Guard moved weapons of mass destruction into Syria in advance of the U.S.-led action to eliminate Hussein’s WMD threat.

As Sada told the New York Sun, two Iraqi Airways Boeings were converted to cargo planes by removing the seats, and special Republican Guard units loaded the planes with chemical weapons materials.

There were 56 flights disguised as a relief effort after a 2002 Syrian dam collapse.

There were also truck convoys into Syria. Sada’s comments came more than a month after Israel’s top general during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Moshe Yaalon, told the Sun that Saddam “transferred the chemical agents from Iraq to Syria.”

Just to add to the general cheerful tidings, there are claims, unverified, that some WMDs were transferred to Hezbollah.

The big answer — If Russia was involved in the shipments as has been claimed, then that was probably a can of worms Bush preferred to leave unopened.

I thought the pipeline into Turkey went to the rebels. Also thought the rebels had control of the north and were working their way west and south. Arms going in from everywhere but particularly across the Turkish border, one would surmise the rebels have WMDs just like everyone else by now, unless the WMDs were secured in libya. Cannot believe the WMDs, in libya, were secured though.

Good article...The RATS still contend Iraq had no WMDs but any reasonable person knew that is and was a lie. Sadly, we're more than likely going to see the wrath those Iraqi WMDs are going to cause in the near future.

The Democratic Party is so corrupt they would sell their brother to slavery for their own greedy political crap. They were willing to cover up the weapons of mass destruction and cared less about millions that could be killed by the transfer of these weapons to Syria.

Wait a minute now, I thought, according to the "ahem, ahem, cough, cough" always reliable MSM that Saddam Hussein didn't have no stinking weapons of mass destruction.

Now you're saying that those weapons of mass destruction that they didn't have are on the verge of falling into the hands of Israel's enemies?

Hmmmmmmm............, Bush was right after all huh? I wonder IF ANYONE IN THE MSM WILL STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND APOLOGIZE FOR LYING TO US ALL THESE YEARS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??

Nah, I didn't think so either.

Ping WMDs trace. Iraq to Syria to Hezbollah?

There were no WMDs according to the Dems. Buahahahahaha!

Now Asad is about to deploy them.

Many of us on FR said that the Russians whisked them out of Iraq to Syria prior to the invasion of Iraq. And now we see them yet again in Syria. Looks like the Russian trucking industry is not on the job as it was in Iraq years ago, knowing they have nothing to fear from Obamacrats.

Greenfield did this update a few minutes ago...

http://frontpagemag.com/2012/dgreenfield/a-few-words-on-syrian-chemical-warfare-videos/

This is a real mess that just grows more volatile with each passing day. The Democrats own this, every death, every horrible event. They could have been patriots, but smearing Bush was more important to them at the time. This is the result of their treason.

Somehow I doubt Assad will be deploying chemical weapons, but I wouldn’t put it past the allah akbar crowd to kill civilians with anything they can get their hands on, they do want a NATO delivery like NATO gave Libya. It’s islam, it’s cunning and you can’t go far wrong if you think the worst. You’ve seen how the brave fighters who send rockets into Israel station themselves in suburban areas close to family homes - everyone that dies, including the women and children are martyrs for allah. They are all going to paradise!
Are you forgetting how ‘religious’ those freedom fighters are?

What we’re seeing is the result of Democrat treason from at least 2003 onward. Although much of it predates the arrival of Obama in Washington, his skirts are just as filthy. He bought the Party line and amplified it once he had the voice.

Those “reports” came from the “rebels” (AQ), who have their own supplies of chemical weapons because they attacked and seized a chlorine gas plant in Syria a week or so ago - and the plant was also a storage place for other chemical weapons that Saddam had shipped to Syria, so presumably they have a wide variety of chemical weapons. Probably many of them are now expired, but I’m sure there are a lot left that could do damage.

So it looks to me like the “rebels” are staging a chemical attack with their own recently acquired chemical weapons in order to give Obama a pretext for coming in and supporting AQ, once again.

It is absolutely the results of the Dems treason and Obama doesn't have a clue as to what's going on or what to do. Even if he did he'd probably just let the worst happen if he thought he could turn it to political gain.

Uh, was Cheney lying too? He also said there were no WMDs.

The Cheney Exit Interview, CBS, Feb 11 2009
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-3460_162-4697548.html

Bob Schieffer: “We got a big part of it wrong,” Schieffer said. “There weren’t any weapons of mass destruction.”

Dick Cheney: “Correct. The original intelligence was wrong, no question about it. But there were parts of it that were right. It wasn’t 100 percent wrong. It was correct in saying he had the technology. It was correct in saying he still had the people who knew how to build weapons of mass destruction. I think it was also correct in the assessment that once sanctions came off, he would go back to doing what he had been doing before.

“Where it was wrong was [where it] said he had stockpiles, and he clearly didn’t.”

Does this mean we now have to invade Syria based on WMD claims?

Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction. Assad is a murdering slug, no doubt about it but the reason he's trying to hang on for so long might be because the WMDs are in Syria under control of whats left of his security forces or military. In al-Qaedas hands it's a nightmare for the world. Assad may also try to use them as a bargaining chip to ease his ass out of Syria. He turns them over to the US or the UN in exchange for exile somewhere.

You left out the rest:

“”How do you think we got it so wrong?” Schieffer asked. “I mean, we thought he had weapons of mass destruction and he didn’t; we thought we would be greeted with open arms and we weren’t. What happened?”

“Well, I don’t look at it as we got it so wrong, Bob.”

Where it was wrong was [where it] said he had stockpiles, and he clearly didn’t. So the intelligence was flawed. But you never have perfect intelligence in this business. You have got to deal with the best you can in terms of making your decisions.”

“Do you think that perhaps you’d looked at the intelligence and saw what you wanted to see rather than make a real logical analysis of what you saw?” Schieffer asked.

“It wasn’t a matter just of us looking and seeing what we wanted to see. Everybody believed that intelligence. Saddam Hussein had peddled that notion to his senior officers and officials. They all believed he had weapons of mass destruction. The intelligence services of other countries, the Clinton administration that had been there for eight years before we had, had exactly the same conclusion that we had. And we had numerous reports afterwards with all the studies that were done - the Robb-Silberman commission, the Senate Intelligence Committee - that said that there was no manipulation of the data, no pressure brought to bear on the analysis. This is what they saw, and they got part of it wrong.”

.....

Cheney didn’t say there were no WMD. He said they found no stockpiles.
