The US Finally Admits To Sending Heavy Weapons From Libya To Syrian Rebels
http://www.businessinsider.com ^ | Dec. 9, 2012 | Geoffrey Ingersoll and Michael Kelley

Posted on 12/09/2012 7:59:32 PM PST by Whenifhow

Diplomatic sources told the Sunday Times that the U.S. "bought weapons from the stockpiles of Libya's former dictator Muammar Gaddafi."

The heavy arms include mortars, rocket propelled grenades, anti-tank missiles and the controversial anti-aircraft heat-seeking SA-7 missiles, which are integral to countering Bashar Al-Assad's bombing campaign.

The administration has said that the previously hidden CIA operation in Benghazi involved finding, repurchasing and destroying heavy weaponry looted from Libyan government arsenals, but in October we reported evidence indicating that U.S. agents — particularly murdered ambassador Chris Stevens — were at least aware of heavy weapons moving from Libya to jihadist Syrian rebels.

From the Times report:

President Barack Obama authorized clandestine CIA support earlier this year and both the US and Britain have had special forces and intelligence officers on the ground for some time. They have helped with logistics and communications, but until now have refused to arm the Free Syrian Army.

SNIP

The newest report comes days before the U.S. is expected to recognize the newest Syrian coalition (and its Islamic-dominated-command) as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people. The State Department has also indicated it will soon name the opposition's highly effective al-Nusra Front a "terrorist organization" for its ties to Al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI).

Both of these stipulations — recognition of a unified opposition and creation of distance from extremists — are required in order for the Obama administration to openly acknowledge supporting Syrian rebels with heavy weapons.

“It’s funny how the axholerods in Oslo don’t mind one of their prize winning boys spreading weapons around. The Nobel morons are hypocrites. “Peace” my arse.”

Yep. So much for the “crimes against peace” and “waging aggressive war” stuff from the Nuremburg trials.

So far this administration has assisted in toppling the governments of Egypt, Libya and soon Syria if they can, while adopting a hands off Iran policy.

>>I expect a campaign in Syria very soon. There has been a rise in various types of Gov’t jobs, and NGO jobs being posted for Syria of late.

Sure is great Obama went to Congress for authorization for that.

Oh, wait . . .

And when we say “Syrian rebels” — we mean al Qaeda, right?

It doesn't matter what we call them, they're all the same thing-Islamic terrorists set upon cleansing the earth of all Jews and Christians.

I still say 0bama had him taken out. And it wasn’t Libyans who attacked the compound. And the CIA/Seals that did respond were told to stand down, they chose otherwise and that choice meant they could not be trusted in the future. So they lost their lives too.

Looks to be just about one or two questions left. Was the meeting (of Turkish ambassador and Stevens) a setup for the attack to verify Ambassador Stevens was in the area? Is Turkey rethinking their position of support for the rebels?

Below the specs on the SA-7s (surface to air missile) that we have given the rebels. Syria is in chaos and some if not many of these missiles will become in the possession of Al Qaeda. These missiles can take down a commercial airliner on takeoff.

Barrack Obama is not a patriot of our great nation and grievously harms it every day.

and passive infrared homing guidance. The HN-5 ( Hong Nu = Red Cherry ) is an improved Chinese version with upgraded capabilities. The SA-7 was the first generation of Soviet man portable surface-to-air missiles. Although classed as "fire and forget" types, the missiles were easily overcome by solar heat and, when used in hilly terrain, by heat from the ground. The SA-7 seeker is fitted with a filter to reduce the effectiveness of decoying flares and to block IR emissions. The system consists of the missile (9K32 & 9K32M), a reloadable gripstock (9P54 & 9P54M), and a thermal battery (9B17). An identification friend or foe (IFF) system can be fitted to the operators helmet. Further, a supplementary early warning system consisting of a passive RF antenna and headphones can be used to provide early cue about the approach and rough direction of an enemy aircraft. Although the SA-7 is limited in range, speed, and altitude, it forces enemy pilots to fly above minimum radar limitations which results in detection and vulnerability to regimental and divisional air defense systems. The SA-7a (9K32 Strela-2) was introduced for service in 1968, but was soon replaced by the SA-7b (9K32M Strela-2M) which became the most common production model. The SA-7b, differs from the SA-7a primarily by using a boosted propellant charge to increase range and speed. The SA-7a had a slant range of 3.6 km and a kill zone between 15 and 1500 meters in altitude, with a speed of about 430 meters per second (Mach 1.4). The SA-7b has a slant range of about 4.2 km, a ceiling of about 2300 meters, and a speed of about 500 meters per second (Mach 1.75). Both the SA-7a and SA-7b are tail-chase missile systems, and its effectiveness depends on its ability to lock onto the heat source of low-flying fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft targets.

We went through this in Afghanistan when we armed and financed AQ to fight the Soviets. Will we ever learn to keep our nose out because in never ends the way the decision makers anticipate.

How letting an ambassador and his defenders get murdered is not worse before an election than finding out about some questionable arms transactions is a mystery. One would think they’d prefer that the latter be made public than that the former should even happen. Something else is being withheld.

Not to worry about missing a thing here or there. It is getting rather difficult for the alphabets to ignore how things are shaping up.
