Foodstamps Soar By Most In 16 Months: Over 1 Million Americans Enter Poverty In Last Two Months
zero hedge ^

Posted on 12/10/2012 3:57:01 AM PST by Perdogg

And we thought last month's delayed foodstamp data was bad. The just reported foodstamp number for September was a doozy, with 607,544 new Americans becoming eligible for foodstamps, as a record 47.7 million Americans are now living in poverty at least according to the USDA. The monthly increase was the highest since May 2011, and with August's 421K new impoverished America, over 1 million Americans made the EBT card their new best friend. It is unclear just which atmospheric phenomenon will get the blame for this unprecedented surge in poverty, which comes at a time when the pre-election economic data euphoria was adamant that the US economy was on an escape velocity to utopia. Instead what we do know is that in August and September, over three times as many foodstamp recipients were add to the economy as jobs (324,000). We also know that with the imminent impact of Sandy, which will send foodstamp recipients soaring, it is now looking quite possible that the US may end 2012 with just over a mindboggling 50 million Americans living in absolute poverty and collecting the $134.29 average monthly benefit per person, instead of working. Welcome to the recovery indeed.

the obamanation team and their manipulated MEdia can mask the true unemployment rate by not counting people who have dropped out of the workforce

but they cannot mask those people showing up in food stamp offices

and no, it’s a real stretch now to blame it on “Bush”

and the obamanation propaganda shift to blaming it on “the rich who don’t pay their fair share” is also going to run out sooner rather than later

I wonder how many of the new EBT and Food Stamp takers are Illegals? They are FLOODING into the country right now, knowing Amnesty is coming in 2013.

Over 1 Million Americans Enter Poverty In Last Two Months

BULLSH!T Over one million lazy parasites discover it's easier to go on the dole than to work. Human tapeworms dragging down the economy by

  1. not working and therefore producing nothing and
  2. using the government to rob the hardworking af the fruits of their labors. Instead of spending their money on what they want, the hard working are forced at gunpoint to support the dregs
America under 0 and the Democrats (with the pathetic Republicans wagging their tails to get a pat on the head from 0) is not a pretty sight. But, then again neither is Cuba, but 0 wants us just like them.

Food stamps now mask the fact we're in a depression. If there were no food stamps we'd have bread lines six abreast in front of soup kitchens in every city across the fruitless plain.

Who's kidding who that we're not in a depression?

"47.7 million Americans are now living in poverty"

Almost identical to the U6 rate and should be reported as such in the same reverent, canon-like way UI is reported.

In the future thy may be sneaking back into Mexico. Obama just used them for votes, and will give them nothing.

Note Many of the people whom now receive social security disability also receive food stamps an ebt card. Does anyone know the number of people now receiving social security disability? there were record numbers around I believe 800,000, but I do not remember the exact.

What is the number of new Medicaid beneficiaries?

Many people have given up looking for work because they believe there is nothing out there. But there are jobs at $8.00 - $10.00 that are available and are going unfilled. I was in Jackson, Wisconsin just last week, looking over my mother’s property for sale. There were a good deal number of help wanted signs up. Spoke with a CPA in that area and he was appalled by the number of job openings and no takers.

Dumb question. Has anyone seen the number of reduced items in grocery stores being offered for sale? I have been in Walmart, and Angeli’s (UP of Michigan), the number of items - reduced , near expiration date and reduced for quick sale have increased. Yet Food stamp recipients are still buying soda, chips, cookies, desserts and pizza.

Don’t the provide a nutritional counseling when the people apply for food stamps?

Who cares? The Obamedia lied about the doubling of the poverty rate under El Bozo, and the fattest poor people in the world stuffed ballot boxes nation wide to keep their free stuff flowing, so this is just “old news” now.

RE double post...

THAT was a comment worth posting twice. I’d never looked at food stamps like that before, but you are exactly right.

Could you imagine the “gimmee” crowd waiting patiently in line for Michelle Obama’s nutritional handouts? The national guard would have to be called out.

From an earlier post on FR: In 1960 an average of 455,000 workers were receiving monthly disability payments. In 2010, 8.2 million were, four times the number of people on welfare.

Here in L.A., we've been told that hundreds of teachers have been RIF-ed or laid off. But when our school advertised for an English teacher, we got one applicant. One.

But then, when we speak of "poverty" in America, we have quite a broad and soft definition.

That's OK, because if everyone winds up on food stamps then everything will be ‘fair’.

What’s the definition of “poverty”?

What’s the definition of “income”?

Does ‘income’ include all the free, taxpayer-funded handouts like welfare, food stamps, school lunches, section 8 housing, medicaid? If not, why?

Should ‘income’ include monies piad for work that are confiscated by the government in the form of taxes and fees for the benefit of others, or should ‘income’ only include “net” pay?

Finally, at what level of income does it make sense to quit working (except maybe under-the-table) and live off the taxpayer-funded benefits?

Those are pertinent questions. Especially the last one, since the vast majority of people collecting freebies are scamming the system anyway.

Two points I would like to make.

First, many of these people who are getting benefits are working , but getting paid in cash. This is the problem with our income tax system. This is why I have always thought that a national sales tax would be more far than the regressive income tax system that we currently have.

Secondly, there are many jobs available in the trucking, oil and gas exploration and other industries. There are trucking companies out west willing to pay a signing bonus. They are also willing to put you through tractor trailer school if you will sign a long term contract. I also hear stories of welders getting paid six figure incomes in ND including a place to live/sleep at night. Many of these jobs are not 9-5. They may even require you to work overseas. Many of these jobs are also physically demanding.
You are not sitting in a cubical working on a computer.

I have another example of someone I recently hired to look at a house I am purchasing. A septic system inspecter. This man did over 750 inspections a year at $229 a pop. Do the math. In addition to that he also designed and rebuilt septic systems when they failed. He also stated that about half of what he was paid was in cash. He did not even work in the winter when the ground is frozen.

Amen to that. And Secretary of Agriculture Vilsak has the gall to say that the importance of the American farmer/rancher is being diminished. Maybe that’s because the farm states went about 65/35 to Romney. I wouldn’t
expect much love from Obama/Vilsak during the next four
years.
