The scariest thing about Syria, from the Wests point of view, may be the gap between the hair-raising scenarios senior officials are discussing about what may happen next and their limp strategies for preventing it.
Inside the Obama administration, Syria is now likened by some to a second Somalia only at the heart of the Middle East, and with the worlds third-largest stockpile of chemical weapons. One official recently described a near-term future in which the current, two-sided civil war breaks down into a free-for-all in which Sunni forces fight Kurds and each other as well as the Alawi remnants of Bashar al-Assads army; where the al-Qaeda branch known as Jabhat al-Nusra gains control over substantial parts of the country; and where the danger of chemical weapons use comes not just from the regime but from any other force that overruns a chemical weapons depot.

The US Finally Admits To Sending Heavy Weapons From Libya To Syrian Rebels
So this is really on Obama's Watch.....for whatever good that does us.

I don't see any Syria descending... looks like they are even rising a bit...
oh, wait. we must be descending as well, and perhaps slightly faster.
from the department of watching the floor go up while the elevator goes down department
As I mentioned elsewhere - I don’t care.
Assad vs. Al Qaeda vs. Muslim Brotherhood. Maybe they can all fight a really long war and all 3 can lose.
Its funny how the media copy Bush’s words on WMD - for Obama’s use. Of course, none of it is attributed to Obama.
The money quote.
President Obama certainly did not like how the Bush Administration responded to Iraq, but one must ask the question: if the same problem pops up in Syria is there a better alternative?
Unfortunately Obama's entire life has not revolved around doing better. It has always revolved around doing worse.
fyi

Just wondering when this thing is going to blow up even bigger - sure looks like it is heading that way.
When Obama/Hillary/Huma’s Al Nusra Terrorist rebels fire WMD at Syrian Alawites, the House Assad will unleash its WMD as a counter attack. Russia of course will respond first anticipating the slow waddling US/House of Saud move.
I guess he wouldn't want to restart the Iraq war then. /s
U.S. Troops Are Reported Back in Iraq Over Syrian CrisisMore than 3,000 U.S. military personnel have secretly returned to Iraq via Kuwait and 17,000 more are on their way in response to the civil war in Syria that has spilled over into northern Iraq, according to a report published Monday by Iran's Press TV.
Operation Syria: US and Western Allies Supplying Terror Cells With Chemical Weapons
Geez,....this is going VIRAL!
The only potential good I can see now, is that with Syria all tied up, the Iranian Israeli battle can begin. The gross incompetence from Obama/Hillary/Huma however is going to even unravel the Israeli situation.
Are Israel and Obama About to Clash Over Syrian WMDs?
Its quite likely that Israel is preparing to carry out strikes against any Syrian WMD facilities at risk into falling into the hands of the Syrian rebels, who are intertwined with Hamas and Al Qaeda.
These strikes are the last thing that Obama wants. From the diplomatic perspective, Israeli strikes on Syria would allow Assad to distract the Arab world from the civil war and refocus its attention on Israel. And that would undermine Obamas effort to remove Assad.
But WMDs are not an area where Israel is likely to back off. Obama has no problem with the Muslim Brotherhoods militias getting its hands on chemical weapons. Israel does.
Is it? I just saw a link to it on another thread.

lol I didn’t even notice that YOU are the one who posted that link. More coffee!
I’m afraid that I agree with the theory that all this talk in the media about chemical weapons is merely intended to stir up fear so Obama and Nato have an excuse to go in once again ON THE WRONG SIDE.
Obama wants the terrorists to win. He supplied them with weapons from Libya, but they aren’t winning fast enough. So he needs an excuse to go in and finish the job.
Fortunately, Russia has vowed to prevent an invasion. Let’s hope that Obama has enough sense not to start a war with Russia on behalf of his Muslim terrorist buddies.
No worries. Just assumed you found it on your own. Am taking the day off from business today due to the cold weather here in Texas. Cold for us Texans anyway.
International coalition could offer air and sea support as well as military training
Now which International Coalition might that be?
Check the updates and links on here....stuff is happening.
See the link at #19.
Sense and progressive are mutually exclusive. Obama and Hillary want a world war because they want to have the power that their hero, FDR wielded over the American people. They do not realize that in this age there are no winners in a world war. Here is the latest news from the World War III front. An ongoing battle that may determine how this all escalates to World War.
Concern that Assad may have passed some chemical weapons to Hizballah
The battle around Al Safira, site of Syrias biggest chemical weapons store and Scud D missiles fitted with chemical warheads, is fierce and fluid: the base changes hands every few hours in heavy fighting between Syria army and rebel forces.
Saturday, the bases capture by the rebels triggered a warning from the Assad regime against throwing chemical weapons into the battle. Sunday, Al Safira was recaptured, but the rebels are sweeping through the surrounding villages and closing in on three sides. For now, Syrian forces control the road connecting Al Safira to Aleppo, but the rebels have seized parts of Sheikh Suleiman, the biggest air base near that city, and are getting close to that highway. Its fall would snap shut the rebel siege on Al Safira.
Control of Al Safira would place the big chemical weapons stores in the hands of rebel forces in that sector, many of whom belong to Jabhat al-Nusra, the roof organization of the al Qaeda elements fighting in Syria against the Assad regime.
Yeah. NATO and Obama claim that they want to intervene to prevent the terrorists from taking over after Assad goes.
I bet. Just like they did in Libya. And Egypt. And Tunisia.
If Assad goes, it’s inevitable that the Muslim fanatics will take charge. And I should think Russia realizes that. Although they may finally decide that there’s nothing they can do to stop it. Who knows?
The fallback plan is to setup an Alawite state along the west shoreline that includes the Russian seaport. That would have been a good deal if Obama/Hillary/Huma would have been fair negotiators. The use of WMD by Al Nusra however, will change everything.

Regarding the Syria Mess: Maybe Morocco can help
We do have troops in Morrocco ,...by the way.

By the way, i failed to give credit for the initial link to Hot Air....think that is where I found it.
Could this be a 21st century version of the 20th century Spanish Civil war? That war had plenty of republicans involved, as well as statists...
Saw it somewhere. Back when they were pounding the war drums in early summer. That is what defecting people have surmised is the Alawite fallback plan. Pull back to the highlands in the west along the Med shoreline. The future for Damascus and Aleppo right now does not look good. If I see that back up plan mentioned again, will ping you.
Assad To U.N. On Chemical Weapons: "We Are Being Framed"
Framed by the US Oligarchy ? When have they ever used that tactic ?
If the media really wants to turn Americans against Syria, all they have to do is report that Assad wants to take away our marijuana. Flash, bang, no more Damascus.
Why is it no one mentions the Russian base at the harbor on the Med? No way will they let a warm water port leave their grip.
Just Muslims being Muslim - “doin’ what comes naturally ...”.
