As one conservative grandma to another: Our efforts to stop ObamaCare failed. We marched and raised hell about it and they passed it anyway. What makes you think it would work now?

I agree, conservative great grandma. Boehner’s House voted how many times to repeal Obamacare? Boehner’s House voted for the Ryan budget which would have greatly reformed the tax code taking the top tax rate down to 25%.

The problem Boehner has is the structure of the GWB tax cuts which is very flawed because they were designed to expire after a decade-—A VERY SERIOUS FLAW. If if Boehner does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING (which is what many want) the GWB tax rates will AUTOMATICALLY expire on Jan. 1,2013 just weeks away. Boehner has a VERY DIFFICULY hand to play. Obama is holding at least three aces in his hand:

Ace #1 The tx cuts expire automatically in about three weeks.

Ace #2 The Dems control the US Senate

Ace#3 Obama was re-elected (yes I agree there was massive vote fraud but that still does not change the outcome)-—he therefore has significant political capital at this time.

What hand does Boehner have to play? He is clearly on defense, trying to preserve as much as the GWB tax rates as possible.

Here is what I think would be the best deal possible for our side:

The GOP agrees to raise the debt ceiling.
The Dems agree to keep tax rates at their current levels.

I know it’s kicking the can down the road, but probably the best deal we could hope for.

Well said. I’m not a Boehner fan, but sheesh, give the guy a break. Let’s try to be helpful as much as we can. Yeah, I know, trashing Conservatives was wrong and he needs to pay for this, but just splintering does nothing but help Obama and Reid.

WHY do we have a Dept of Commerce? Would we have no commerce without it? And why the ludicrous proposal for a Department of BUSINESS? The mere concept is silly.

Let’s start by doing away with the EPA and BATF —fire them all, sell the buildings, vehicles, etc.

Dept of Education has IMPROVED Education? No? Why not let it go, also...? In fact we can get rid of very many departments entirely.

Nothing in the article spelled out the cuts Pelosi referred to.

That was glaringly apparent to me too.

WHAT CUTS has Obama proposed????

10-1 odds that not only will Bonehead cave, the Grandest of all Bargains
that Bonehead is about to agree to WILL ADDITIONAL PORK IN THE DEAL,
even though Bonehead says we are broke. So whats Bonehead’s solution?
Screw the GOP and spend even more money.
Wait and Fume.

I do not understand all of the wringing of hands and weeping going on in DC as we all know that there are only 536 people who caused all of the problems that they now can not bring themselves to fix or even own it.

I agree...The problem is Obama and his boot lickers...not Boehner. FR frequently kills their own. I believe there are some old Freepers that are actually Dem infiltrators.

I haven't seen that Obama is open to such an idea.

The Dept of Commerce is responsible for Standardized Weight and Measures and yes we do need that at a national level BUT do we “need” and entire Dept for it, NO fold it into the Treasury Dept.

FR frequently kills their own

This happens on a regular basis. MSM tactics work here unfortunately.

What they should do is pass a line item budget,
with every spending line item having the Article I, Section 8 authorization for that line item.

Let's be honest, Boehner. You're a Democrat. Just GTFO and let the Conservatives
do the right thing, that is so wrong for you to handle.
