By federal law, the Obama-Biden campaign is supposed to disband. But it shows no signs of disbanding, and is instead launching a whole new campaign. In an email sent out today and signed by Obama campaign deputy manager Stephanie Cutter, Obama-Biden is urging supporters to flood the capitol switchboard in Washington with calls to Republican congressman. Callers are urged to pressure GOPers into caving to the presidents demand for higher taxes. Cutter casts the debate disingenuously, as the president defending tax cuts for the middle class while Republicans would be making a conscious choice to hike those taxes in defense of tax cuts for the wealthy. President Obama and most Democrats spent years criticizing those very same Bush-era tax cuts as irresponsible. Obama even described Bush as unpatriotic for raising the national debt, only to raise the national debt even more than Bush did, in half the time.
Todays email appears to be part of a broader Democratic offensive against House Republicans. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is running robocalls against 35 House Republicans to pressure them into going along with the presidents tax hikes without entitlement spending reform.
Here is Cutters email. Ive removed links to the Obama web site.
Who will decide if your taxes increase in just 22 days? A few dozen members of the House of Representatives, thats who.
Cutting taxes for the middle class shouldnt be difficult, especially when Republicans claim they agree with the President on the issue. But some Republicans are still holding middle-class tax cuts hostage simply because they want to cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires.
Heres whats going on right now: President Obama is asking Congress to move forward on a plan that would prevent 98 percent of American families from paying higher taxes next year. The Senate has passed that bill, and the President is ready to sign it but the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives wont even bring the bill to the floor for a vote. House Democrats have filed a petition that would force a vote if it attracts 218 signatures.
If a bill has enough votes to pass, Congress should vote on it and pass it. Its a pretty simple proposition. And every Member of Congress who hasnt signed on to keep taxes low for the middle class needs to hear from you.
Use the call tool today to reach out to fellow Obama supporters and make sure they contact their Republican representative.
Lets get one thing straight: If your taxes go up, Republicans will have made a conscious choice to let that happen. Theyll have missed the opportunity to prevent it, just to cut taxes for the wealthy.
Republicans need to stop using the middle class as a bargaining chip. If they fail to act, a typical middle-class family of four will see a $2,200 tax hike starting in a few short weeks. Middle-class families could face some tough financial decisions simply because Republicans didnt want to ask the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans to pay their fair share.
Thats not what President Obama and you campaigned on, and thats not what millions of Americans voted for just one month ago.
We know we can affect change in Washington when we raise our voices together. So pick up the phone and make a few calls. Republicans in the House need to hear from their constituents. You can help:
Stephanie Cutter Deputy Campaign Manager Obama for America
P.S. Look up your representative in Congress here, then call the switchboard at 202-224-3121 and make sure your voice is heard in this debate, too
Welcome to communists America with King Obama as dictator. Reality? Coming soon as Americans sleep.
“Callers are urged to pressure GOPers into caving to the presidents demand for higher taxes.”
THIS is leadership?
Why are you penalizing success, for the sake of the votes of the masses (the 47%), and the tribal parasites who have no intention of EVER holding a real job, or becoming responsible and self-sufficient? A lifestyle of living off the earnings of others is in-grained in about 1/2 of society today, and the Vote results show this.
The media and Obama supporters are acting like the deal is already done and they have won (stock market is up on this), trying this to put extra pressure on Boehner.
An Alinsky tactic.
This is pure mob demogoguery (aka "community organization").
He has the strongest hand with this one
“Tell the GOP to stop your taxes from going up”
Republicans have no choice but do it (income under $250K) and sadly after looking like O forced them, even though they never said they wouldnt
If Republicans later accuse him of raising taxes will he claim he didnt?
Why would someone who ignore the Constitutionm worry about Federal Law.
Obama IS the law, has anyone forgotten Justice Roberts on his knees Kissing Obama’s hindparts ?
And I am calling them and telling then that if they cave in to Obama and his destruction of our economy that I will work to vote them out of office.
May God forgive me, but I loathe this man.
God help our nation if the GOP congressmen fall for this tactic. While the rest of productive America is at work, Zer0's minions are calling in on their free phones.
I think GOP congressmen don’t care much about calls from people outside of their district. These calls will most likely have limited impact. Congressmen can run polls in their own district to find out what their constituents really think about any issue.
It’s more like a endless election campaign. This White House loves campaigning. They don’t seem to like governing and negotiating with congress.
And people wonder where Obama’s Army is going to come
from? This is it, they will just keep the organization
going for four or more years.
Very good point. Zer0 is asking for phone calls which are a waste of time. This campaign style politicking is taking Zer0 out of Washington DC. He is running all over the country instead of doing his job. He needs to be putting his budget plan in writing. He needs to be sitting down and talking. You would think by this time Zer0 would have learned how to get down to business.
I noticed they have them log into a website which directs them to their representatives:
It is interesting that in order to log in it requires your email address. I am not giving Zer0 my email address.
They’re wasting their time and money. The switchboard could be dead and the republicans will still cave.
“They dont seem to like governing and negotiating with congress.”
It’s hard to ‘like’ what you are not good at! :)
