OSLO, Norway (AP) American actress Sarah Jessica Parker praised the EU on Tuesday for winning the Nobel Peace Prize for pacifying Europe and uniting its different cultures after World War II, and she said the bloc should serve as an example to the United States, given the divisions its recent elections have brought to the surface. Parker said that while it might be controversial to have awarded the 27-nation EU the prestigious award as it struggles with a financial crisis that is causing hardship to many, it is "a terrific blueprint for us," and one the U.S. should learn from.

She must not know that the United States was formed by 13 autonomous and independent states uniting to become one.
That is the original blueprint for the EU.

I’m just wondering where in the States does she need a passport to get to?
That was the intent of the EU, to allow people to freely move without passports.

American actress Sarah Jessica Parker praised the EU on Tuesday for winning the Nobel Peace Prize for pacifying Europe and uniting its different cultures after World War II, I guess that the massive American military presence in Europe for the last 60+ years had nothing to do with that pacification.

She probably wouldn’t know any history.
She went to several “show biz” type high schools.
BTW I’m sure she has her accountants figure her income taxes on her $30 mil / yr salary WITHOUT the Bush tax cuts, right?

In the sense that the EU is made up of sovereign nations that can actual leave or get kicked out?
Then she would be right.

I’m starting to doubt if they can leave. The EU is looking more and more like the Hotel California. I wouldn’t be surprised if they occupied a country by force if it tried to leave. All in the interest of “peace and stability”, of course.

It's not really news, is it? But it's not the worst or silliest thing she's ever said.
She's in Oslo to host some kind of Nobel Prize concert in honor of the EU -- I know, I know, how did they pick her of all people to host? SJP doesn't really give much prestige to either the EU or the Nobel Prize -- and somebody asks her what she thinks of the EU.
She's not going to say it's horrible and should be dismantled. She's going to praise it somehow, and since she's no political scientist or historian, that's what she came up with. Much of the time when some actor or actress says something silly it's more a matter of being put on the spot and asked to give opinions about things that they have never really thought out.
FWIW, Norway isn't actually a member of the EU. So I suspect the whole celebration is an "It's fine for you guys, but on the whole we'd rather not" thing -- or maybe the Nobel committee really wishes Norway was part of the European Union.
