Washington Post music critic Allison Stewart is one of those people who cant tolerate the idea that listeners under 16 might favor a singer who isnt edgy. In her review of the second album from schoolgirl favorite Bruno Mars, Stewart complained, Mars has been too vanilla, too edgeless, too mild to the point of being dead, and hence hes too amiable to give these songs any real misogynistic bite.
But Stewart is pleased this is not your mothers Bruno Mars album, since she can approve of a song with lyrics about getting drunk, snorting cocaine, and making love like zoo animals (and wouldnt you enjoy ten-year-old girls repeating the lyrics?):
Just proves that liberal wymin crave misogynistic behavior by men, despite them saying otherwise. How else do you explain their love of the likes of Maher.
Well, of course. The big problem — and everybody knows this — is that our culture is just not trashy enough. We’re not fully in gutter yet. And one of the big things holding us back from pure debauchery has been Bruno Mars. Sure, he’s never been a milquetoast, nor has he been a real cultural asset in any way, but he hasn’t sufficiently advanced the cause, you know? Fortunately, with new songs about drugs and wild sex, Bruno finally makes the sort of contribution that our cultural elite have been looking for. Now he’s ready for real cultural acceptance.
Liberal women love liberal rape too I guess
Geez, I should not be surprised by this. Here I was hoping for a somewhat clean-cut mainstream musician that my kids could listen to.
Yup. And a few years from now, when he’s a drug addicted, alcoholic train wreck, libs like Allison Stewart will innocently ask what happened.
They encourage the behavior because it validates the meme that men are pigs.
Damned. Mars has a beautiful love song “I love you just the way you are”.
Why did he go screw it up?
The pop music industry eats its own. I’ll take the 50’s and 60’s any day: Jackie Wilson; Bill Haley & the Comets, Ricky Nelson, Beach Boys, Jean & Dean, Brenda Lee (Sweet Nothin’s), Pat Boone; Andy Williams, Drifters; Shirelles; Chiffons; Mary Wells; Lee Andrew & the Hearts; Everly Brothers; Linda Scott (I danced with her on the Buddy Dean Show), Marvin Gaye; etc.
Fortunately I have them all on 45’s and LP’s. You can go back, if only for a few minutes.
[Yes, I know that some singers died of drug overdoses, but the greater majority were still decent people. Compare them to the “rappers” and their body count, and you’ll know what I mean).
MadMax with the hot wax!
Misogyny is just one of many ways in the rainbow to put on display how open minded one is.
Those artists are still played. You can often hear them over the PA system in stores such as Trader Joe's. Will they be playing Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber or Snoop Doggie Dog a half century from now?
and this is relevant because teens regularly read the music critics over a the Washpo? smh
