We now know the name of the masked man dressed in camouflage that opened fire in a shopping mall near Portland, Oregon.
Police say Jacob Tyler Roberts was armed with a stolen semi-automatic weapon when he stormed the mall on Tuesday.
FOX23 did some checking and neither Woodland Hills Mall or the Promenade allows open carry holders to bring their guns inside. Tulsa police say it’s a good thing it would allow them to pinpoint who a shooter is if this were ever to happen here. However, local gun advocates say it puts them more in danger.
Kirby Ellis is a local gun advocate and firearms instructor. He proudly open carries his weapon, but wishes that more public places like malls would allow it.
"By carrying a firearm it actually gives us a chance to protect ourselves in ways if the police are not available or they could be moments away,” says Ellis.
In light of the recent mall shooting near Portland, Kirby says not allowing him to carry his weapon inside only puts him and others more at risk.
"With the policies in place that don't allow people to carry firearms in the mall, the only thing they really could do is try to seek cover and wait for the police to get there,” he says.

The only problem with open carry at the mall is that you will be the first one that the shooter takes out.
“Then try and get a good description of the gunman for police.”
The best way to “get a good description of the gunman” is to somehow get him to be perfectly still so you can have a good look at him.
Naw most people never noticed a open carrier to begain with.
I can't believe there wasn't one person in the vicinity who had a firearm.
I agree with that only in part. if enough open carry is seen, these attention seeking perps won’t try it as often.Open carry is fine, and ought to be legal everywhere, but I will still carry concealed for just the reason you state. On the other hand, open carry deployment is almost always faster. Each to his own, i suppose.

Since April 1999 there have been several mass shootings in the United States. Another example just yesterday is sure to bring out the gun-banning leftist activists. What they fail or refuse to accept is that the great majority of these occur in so-called gun-free zones and/or in places that have strict gun control laws on the books. The perpetrators of these acts know full well that in a gun-free zone no one will be shooting back and that no matter how strict the law criminals can obtain illegal arms easily.
Following is a list of these shootings with a notation regarding the location and/or local gun controls:
April 1999 - two teenage schoolboys shot and killed 12 schoolmates and a teacher at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, before killing themselves. GUN-FREE ZONE (High School)

It appears that gun free zones are much more dangerous and that strict gun control does nothing to prevent these mass shootings. These policies only make people feel safer and actually put our citizens in peril.
