U.S. secretly backed Syrian opposition groups, cables released by WikiLeaks show

The State Department has secretly financed Syrian political opposition groups and related projects, including a satellite TV channel that beams anti-government programming into the country, according to previously undisclosed diplomatic cables.

The London-based satellite channel, Barada TV, began broadcasting in April 2009 but has ramped up operations to cover the mass protests in Syria as part of a long-standing campaign to overthrow the country’s autocratic leader, Bashar al-Assad. Human rights groups say scores of people have been killed by Assad’s security forces since the demonstrations began March 18; Syria has blamed the violence on “armed gangs.”

Barada TV is closely affiliated with the Movement for Justice and Development, a London-based network of Syrian exiles. Classified U.S. diplomatic cables show that the State Department has funneled as much as $6 million to the group since 2006 to operate the satellite channel and finance other activities inside Syria. The channel is named after the Barada River, which courses through the heart of Damascus, the Syrian capital.

The Rebel are Al Qaeda. The country not only funds them. Our government created them.

Who is outraged? A few FR readers? The few people left who care about the future of this country?

Not the masses of Americans who care more about what Justin Beiber is doing than the militant fanatics who want to destroy us.

Not the US Congress whose country and people were
murdered by al Qaeda. NOPE. They are on their knees.

Not the Pentagon whose building was bombed and people were
murdered by al Qaeda. NOPE. They are on their knees
today giving a book ordering SUPPORT for the enemy
of the American people.

Back both sides for as long as possible; radical Muslims and apostate Muslims killing each other off in great numbers is a good thing! Let’s keep it going on for years, or until the 21st, anyway...

We spent at least a million dollars to shore up a newspaper in order to put Pinochet in power. Interestingly enough, Obama Sr’s party friend,Arnie Nachmanoff, was involved in that decision.

I have been repeating this (what to me is NOT new news) here on FR for months!!!!

The other facts are that on the surface this all looks like State Department and CIA efforts vis-a-vis a “U.S. policy agenda vis-a-vis Syria”, but in fact the relevant organizations internationally and on the ground in Syria that U.S. foreign policy and intelligence money and resoources have been funneled into are all headed by and run by individuals alligned with either Saudi intelligence and/or the Muslim Brotherhood or both; and it is THEIR agendas, not any U.S. agenda that they are working for.

Western nations were used in the same way by the Saudis in funneling money and resources to help create the Mujahadeen and the Taliban in Afghanistan - on OUR intentions vis-a-vis ousting the Soviets, when all along it was Saudi and Pakistan’s ISI intentions to create a Pashtun (Sunni Muslim) dominant radical fundamentalist Islamic presence in Afghanistan.

Previously, the west was maybe fooled.

This time, it is my belief that Obama knows exactly what is really going on and because he does he intends to keep-up the pretense that the whole deal in Syria is all about that rotten guy Assad, when in fact the nature of the regime of Assad is mere pretext for the Saudi-MB putsch agenda that U.S. resources are merely tools of - again.

Under Assad, was the border with Israel relatively peaceful?

You can guarantee that will not be the case once Assad is gone and the Saudis and the MB have their way.
