U.S. Terrorism Agency to Tap a Vast Database of Citizens (Big Brother lives)
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 12/12/12 | Julia Angwin

Posted on 12/13/2012 6:45:08 AM PST by TonyInOhio

Top U.S. intelligence officials gathered in the White House Situation Room in March to debate a controversial proposal. Counterterrorism officials wanted to create a government dragnet, sweeping up millions of records about U.S. citizens—even people suspected of no crime.

~ snip ~

The rules now allow the little-known National Counterterrorism Center to examine the government files of U.S. citizens for possible criminal behavior, even if there is no reason to suspect them. That is a departure from past practice, which barred the agency from storing information about ordinary Americans unless a person was a terror suspect or related to an investigation.

Now, NCTC can copy entire government databases—flight records, casino-employee lists, the names of Americans hosting foreign-exchange students and many others. The agency has new authority to keep data about innocent U.S. citizens for up to five years, and to analyze it for suspicious patterns of behavior. Previously, both were prohibited. Data about Americans "reasonably believed to constitute terrorism information" may be permanently retained.

Welcome to 1984. You'll learn to love Big Brother, too. Or Else.

“Data about Americans “reasonably believed to constitute terrorism information” may be permanently retained.”

Reasonably is subjective.

Today, Dec 13, 2012, the Taliban is the friend
of the US gov’t, and the US people who support
the US Constitution are its new enemy.

People drawn to careers in government are all about control; it’s their meat and drink, their whole raison d’etre.

They believe they are in a better position to know what’s good for you than you are, yourself, and their aim is to force their beliefs on all others.

It’s a form of mental illness, but it’s extremely prevalent these days, unfortunately.

99% of the posters on FR could reasonably be considered a threat to the current systemic abuse of citizen’s rights perpetuated by the Federal government.

That pretty much covers them I would think.

Yes; I get it. Up is Down, Black is White, Tea Party is Bad, OCCUPY ANYWHERE is Good, Union Thugs can beat you black and blue if you’re a Conservative, and IT IS YOUR FAULT, Etc. - Mr. Teleprompter says one thing today, another tomorrow; and take your pick which thing you WANT to believe.

Tied with this:
TSA Travel Surveillance
And talks about grabbing guns, the Feds seem to really be trying to close the noose around the necks of the American citizen.

Scary? Possibly. Question is, if things start to look like a coup d'etat, who is going to step forward and put the proverbial bell on the cat?

So much for the First and Fourth Amendments; but, then, everyone knows the constitution is dead, anyway, and of little save historical interest.

One wonders if the Founding Fathers ever envisioned an American government which would simply ignore the constitution at its whim...?

Man, you are right on. A perfect description of Nancy Pelosi and others. Mental defects all!

Yes they did. That's why they said the constitution/government would only work with moral, Godly men at the helm. So now we have a country filled with progressive/humanist, mentally defective and morally flawed people and a good portion make up our government.

This is what the future holds.

For the entire planet.

For centuries to come.

“But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science.” - Winston Churchill

We are there.

Reminds me of that movie, forget the name, with Denzel Washington and Bruce Willis about rounding up Muslims and putting them in pens after a terror attack. Only this roundup won't be under those guidelines, guaranteed.
