Changes in voter demographics likely permanent, study says

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Changes in San Diego voter demographics that became apparent with the election of Bob Filner as mayor are probably permanent, with the city's political power shifting toward independents and residents south of Interstate 8, according to a study released Wednesday.

The National University System Institute for Policy Research found that Mayor Bob Filner's election victory over ex-Councilman Carl DeMaio was fueled by voters south of the freeway that runs through Mission Valley. The freeway is a traditional, but not entirely accurate, dividing line between economic "haves'' and "have-nots'' and a border between Republican- and Democratic-leaning enclaves.

No, their children are Amcits, not legal immigrants. We bring in 1.2 million legal immigrants every year, which is four times the number of anchor babies annually.

But illegals are a total game changer. There are 20 million of them, and they are a high percentage of the young people.

No the game changer is legal immigration. During the decade ending in 2010 we had the largest number of legal immigrants ever to enter this country, 13.9 million. During that same period we had a net loss of jobs nationally of about 400,000. 57% of immigrant headed households with children are on welfare. 25% of the adult legal immigrants who enter annually lack a high school degree.

Demographics are destiny. When Democrats could not win the argument, they changed the demographics. We have to be willing to change the demographics ack, or surrender the country. We can convince Americans that freedom and free markets are best for us. We will never convince mestizos, muzzies and filipinos to vote to uphold America's heritage. They want to destroy it, and then take their piece, like hyenas fighting over a corpse.

How do you change the demographics back? Certainly, it must start with LEGAL immigration. You don't bring in 1.2 million legal immigrants a year, which is responsible for about 75% of your population growth. And the vast majority of our immigrants come from the Third World.

Thanks for posting the facts on LEGAL immigration. Too many conservatives focus on illegal immigration & don’t understand that it’s the legal immigration that moved the USA to a center-left nation.

I grew up in Chula Vista. About 12 miles south of I-8. That neighborhood is predominantly Mexican (some Americans) today. In 1985, I purchased a house in Mira Mesa...12 miles north of I-8. I sold my house in Mira Mesa in Feb 2001. By that time, the local mini-mart had more ads in Spanish than English on the store windows. The more realistic have/have-not line is SR52. I'm thankful to have my family relocated to Idaho.

Sadly, she’s not illegal. Just stupid. Her demographic was 30 percent Republican before the welfare state. Republicans had overcome that deficit to regain a majority, which is why new Democrats had to be imported.

In Israel, Labor is the party of Arabs and a few radical Jews. In the US, Democrats are the party of blacks and latin-americans, and a few radical whites.

Definitely address legal immigration, too. We don’t need it. Back in 1994, when Alien Nation came out, they were calling for a time out on legal immigration. But I’m telling you that with California, the illegals are a huge part of the voting mix now, enough to sway the outcome, and a huge part of the budget deficit. That is a problem that can easily be addressed just by following the law, and that is where we need to start. Stop all legal immigration, too, but if they came here legally, good luck getting rid of them. For them, you have to hope to reach some of their third generation. If we don’t get rid of illegals NOW, there won’t be any opportunity to win over those who are here LEGALLY and who aren’t going anywhere, because we will never win any elections.

You seem to be hung up on illegal immigration as the main source of our demographic change. The facts just don't bear you out.

I am a member of a grassroots immigration group that lobbies on the Hill and in Richmond. I have had one on ones with Cantor and George Allen on immigration and its impact economically and electorally. I am so fed up with the GOP on this issue. All they want to deal with is illegal immigration and securing the borders. They are in the pocket of the Chamber of Commerce. They are fools and I cannot understand why they want to commit political suicide by not addressing legal immigration. It is the defining issue of our time.

Republicans are deluded if they think that we can convert these people even the third generation. In fact, studies on the Cubans have found that their children and grandchildren are becoming more and more Democrat.

Immigrants and minorities vote Democrat. That is not going to change. Immigration, Political Realignment, and the Demise of Republican Political Prospects

Perhaps you haven't seen the schools, hospitals, street corners, buses, restaurants, and neighborhoods outside of your area in northern Virginia. There, illegal aliens are a neighborhood, like Little Italy was 80 years ago. Cute, go there and see some Mexicans and buy a burrito. Here, it is a full-blown reconquest. And they are not legal, they got here 5, 10 or 15 years ago, but have not assimilated in any way. That is what the article I posted refers to, although it doesn't talk about illegals. However, there have not been huge numbers of LEGAL Mexicans getting residency here in San Diego in recent years. The ones we get that are legal are mostly on visas, and they are here only to escape violence or to stay for a while and then go back.

The scary thing is the illegals are not voting in great numbers yet. They are just starting to. But with a narrow split between the parties, a few percentage points is enough to swing the balance. In a few years, as more illegals vote, and as more of their children become 18, or as more of them get amnesty if Obama gets his way, then it will be a massacre here for Republicans. And not because of illegals.

You are looking at national statistics regarding legal aliens. I am looking at California and telling you that illegals have made a big difference, and what they have done here will spread nationally. For some reason, you want to argue against something I have not even brought up--the issue of whether legal immigration is more of a problem NATIONALLY than illegal immigration.

What we both agree on is that we don't want either legal or illegal immigration. We need to close the border, send the illegals packing (through enforcement of employment verification, eliminating benefits and raids on chicken plants, farms and construction sites) AND call a timeout on all LEGAL immigration. No new citizens, no new permanent residents, and those who can be sent back home should be. We also need to return to an assimilation policy. But, again, I am spitting in the wind, as I am for a rational approach and I am in a tiny minority of Americans. All I can do is sit back and watch what it was go away.

Perhaps you haven't seen the schools, hospitals, street corners, buses, restaurants, and neighborhoods outside of your area in northern Virginia.

In Fairfax County where I live, 30% of the population of the county are foreign born. Virginia has the 9th largest population of immigrants, legal and illegal, in the nation--more than Nevada or AZ in terms of numbers. Is it any wonder Obama won VA in 2008 and 2012? VA is purple and will soon be blue.

We have a growing immigration population consisting of both Hispanics and Asians. They vote Dem two to one. As I am sure you are aware, Asians voted more heavily for Obama than Hispanics.

The scary thing is the illegals are not voting in great numbers yet. They are just starting to. But with a narrow split between the parties, a few percentage points is enough to swing the balance

It depends on the state. The illegals didn't have a thing to do with our losses in WI, IA, MI, Maine, etc. CA is lost forever to the Reps. And the illegal who vote really don't make a difference except in some Rep districts. The fact is that the entire CA congressional delegation will inevitably go all Dem.

The more scary thing is that Hispanics are not voting in the numbers they should be in terms of their numbers.

I am looking at CA and the nation. CA is the canary in the coal mine. It is where we are headed as a nation. Legal immigration is what changed CA and illegal immigration just made it worse. I have a home in AZ and have lived in San Diego back in the 1960s and have seen it since. CA is a sanctuary state. It not only does not cooperate with the Feds in enforcing our immigration laws, it rewards illegal with benefits paid by the taxpayer. When you reward something, you get more of it.

I can agree with that, but it is too late. We just had a President who gave a backdoor amnesty to 1.8 million illegal aliens including work permits while 23 million Americans look for fulltime employment. The Reps are talking about a limited amnesty and more guest workers to take the jobs away from American college graduates. Both parties have sold out the American worker and are taking this country into the sewer. The are bought and sold by corporate interests. The problem is that these workers are not widgets or units of labor. They bring their own culture and world vision. We are screwed.

This great nation is in the process of committing national suicide. And it is primarily due to LEGAL IMMIGRATION.
