A simple sitting and standing test can determine your mortality, according to a study published in the European Journal of Cardiovascular Prevention.
The test screens for musculo-skeletel fitness and is an assessment of your ability to sit and then rise unaided from the floor.
The study was performed in Brazil by Dr. Claudio Gil Araujo and his team at the Clinimex-Exercise Medicine Clinic in Rio de Janeiro.
Araujo and his colleagues looked at more than 2,000 middle-aged men and women in 2002. He followed up with them approximately six years later, or until their date of death.

Before the test, Araujo gave the subjects simple instructions. Without worrying about the speed of movement, try to sit and then to rise from the floor, using the minimum support that you believe is needed, Araujo said.

Does it matter if you are drunk when you take the test?
Well, yeah...you get an extra thirty points.
Does that mean I am immortal?
Eve and Adam determined my mortality a while back.
It’s 100%.

The simple and precise answer: YES.
I think I would be dead by the time I got into the cross legged sitting position.
Well, yes...if you don’t mind immortality at floor level.
Sorry it took so long to respond, I couldn’t lean forward on the couch to reach the keyboard until I burped.
All the way down on the floor? Really? Sitting on the floor?

YES
These tests seem to work.
Way back in the (UN)Civil War, it was predicted that anyone over 21 that ate Corn without salt and butter would die.
Turns out they were correct.
Embrace the Cross and the One Who used it to set you free from the curse brought about by Adam and Eve!
I was afraid to take this test because I skimmed the title as “morality.”
I’ve fallen....and I can’t get up!
I am 65 and overweight, but I got up with one hand. It was not pretty, but I did it. When I am feeling a little optimistic, I may try the cross-legged rising thing, but I have not done that one in years.
Nah, could not do the cross-legged thing. Oh, well....
True enough!
God bless you and FRegards
God bless you my FRiend.
I hope we didn’t spend too much on this study. Is anyone surprised that people who cannot get up off the floor are in worse shape than those who can?
What next? People who cannot breathe are in worse shape than people who can?
Might as well give the money to PBS.
I dug a grave today and it wasn’t mine. The test is bogus.
I would like to try the test myself...but...I can’t even get down on the floor.
I am old but went off the trail on my dirtbike in the forest last August, fell down, but did manage to get up and right the bike...but it wasn’t especially easy and I was almost ready to cry.
It stands to reason that your power to weight ratio is a strong indicator of fitness, and fitness is a strong indicator of health. It is not a be all and end all, but all of the obese people who can’t get off the floor are certainly indicative of their unhealthful lifestyle, while those who are active and don’t overindulge will be more likely to need less help getting up off the floor.
