Boehner Seeks To Quell Revolt: Speaker Faces Criticism Over Leadership From GOP Right Wing
Albany Times Union ^ | 8:34 Thursday, December 13, 2012

Posted on 12/13/2012 5:10:14 PM PST by drewh

The House's most conservative members vowed to vote against any deal that raises taxes, openly challenging the speaker's authority. Rep. Jeff Landry of Louisiana, defeated in a House race decided last week, blamed the speaker for creating the perilous fiscal position the nation finds itself in. A senior Democrat suggested that Boehner was dragging his feet on deficit talks to avoid striking a deal before January, when the House formally chooses its next speaker.

"The biggest impediment right now is the speaker's ability to get a decent number of Republican votes for an agreement," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, who is the lead Democrat on the House Budget Committee.

"I'm getting increasingly concerned that one of the reasons the speaker is deciding to, I think, string out these discussions is that he wants to wait until Jan. 3, when the election for speaker takes place," he said.

The Republican dissenters at this point represent a small portion of the House Republican Conference, but their public anger is striking. It also reflects a storm of criticism Boehner is facing on conservative talk radio and Internet outlets, in part for moving toward the president on taxes, in part for embracing a purge that removed four Republicans who consistently dissented from leadership positions of committees.

In another twist, some of the House's most uncompromising conservatives joined ranks with its most ardent liberals in embracing a ride into the fiscal unknown next month. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, said the across-the-board spending cuts to military and domestic programs would "break the mold and get some real cuts for a change."

As soon as House Speaker John Boehner gets reinstated as Speaker of the House, he’ll turn on us and give Obummer EVERYTHING HE WANTS.

Boehner is disgusting and is just putting up a media front about being a “tough” guy.

He will totally cave in after he is reinstated.

Two years ago, he could have stopped the funding of Planned Predators, Obamacare, and numerous other outrageous give-aways by not funding them, but he's an administration coward and a RINO, just waiting to turn on us. He will turn on us.

I guess we will have to wait until tomorrow to find out from Obama, in a presser, what Boner caved into tonight!

The great failure to me is that the party is once again letting the Rats mischaracterise it without making any attempt to correct the record. The effect of going over “the cliff” is that taxes go up for every taxpayer. So, the GOP could keep repeating that Obama wants to raise taxes on the middle class. It’s just as correct as the Rats claiming the GOP wants the rich to pay lower taxes, but all we hear is crickets.

One of the characteristics of bullies is that they target people who won’t defend themselves. This sleazy little bully’s acting true to form, and he’s going to keep doing it until we start fighting back.

By all means, let's consider as an authority the ranking Democrat on the House Budget Committee.

A big LOL!!!!

Let us not forget, dear FRiends, that it is none other than ace negotiator (hah!) John Andrew Boehner who traded one half of one trillion dollars in defense spending to the Dems for a foggy, meaninless "iou" for stuff that their lawyers can work around in no-time.

Boehner is not a Dem, as some think. Boehner is, however, completely, totally, and wholly not capable of seeing (a) what a fool he has been, and just how badly he (and we, and our fine Country) has been "taken" by his fiscal cliff nonsense, and (b) that he is just not fit (intellectually or emotionally -- think spontaneous fits of crying, here) to be negotiating on our behalf.

Well, the first error is using the word “leadership” in the same sentence with “Boehner”.

Like others here, I fully expect Bawlin’ Boehner to sell America out in exchange for some under-the-table deal with Benghazi Barry.

However, all of the elements we are facing belong to BOTH parties. The level of corruption in politics today is so outrageous that it must have caused to Founding Fathers to spin their bones into mere shards!!

For those who don’t recognize it, we have reached the America that Ayn Rand described at the end of Atlas Shrugged. Corrupt government, union thugs, anti-business climate, phony climate concerns; the only thing missing is Galt’s Gulch.

This country is in VERY big trouble and it took both the corruption of our elected officials and complacent voters to bring us to this “cliff”. Whether we go over the cliff or not, America’s future is VERY dim!

JRandomFreeper~:” Conservatives are ‘uncompromising’. Liberals are ‘ardent’.”

Has Boehner ever successfully negotiate anything with the Dems ?
Ever ..ever .?

Sometimes I think we have been represented by someone like Neville Chamberlin .

Conservatives could only hope to be respresented by someone with as much intestinal fortitude as Chamberlin. The GOP isn't as resolute as Neville was.

Boehner appeared on television once again reporting that no progress has been made because of Obama, as scripted.

Boehner thinks he is about to be re-elected as Speaker but guess what? Conservatives have turned on him, and are about to kick Boneys butt!

Lets just go over the cliff and get the cuts, and shrink this parasitic animal called government.Nothing like a recession to get the blood running hot!

Ofcourse, all that matters is that Boner stay in power...not.

Boner is small and can’t manage to talk in the media like Newt can. He’s a poor leader. His weakness tells him to take an axe to the family in order for him to feel powerful and to survive.
