Parents in the Missoula County, Montana school district have taken bullying accusations to a whole new level. Theyre claiming Christmas songs that refer to our Lord are unfair, unconstitutional and [are] a form of bullying, according to the Billings Gazette.
The parents say there are all sorts of faiths represented in the community and children singing the songs at a recent school concert were uncomfortable.
The school district responded by saying, During the holidays we, as a school district, are very cognizant regarding our district policy pertaining to the holidays and the importance of separation of church and state, Superintendent Alex Apostle said. But at the same time, we as a school system, want our children to enjoy the holiday season. In the process, we are obviously respectful of the beliefs and cultures of all children and their families.
Responding to an anonymous letter submitted by parents, Apostle said the concert was no different than last year.
The letter stated, We have no problem with it being called a Christmas concert, its just the fact the material should be secular. Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer. These are things that offend no one, but when the children are singing about their lord and savior, Jesus Christ public school is not the place, according to the paper.
Like it or not, the Christmas holiday was based upon the birth of Jesus Christ and most Americans celebrate the holiday for that reason. Its an ingrained part of our culture that the vast majority of citizens observe and support.
Its certainly true that the rights of minorities must be respected. But do the traditions and customs of the vast majority have to be trampled on to accomplish that goal?
The constitutional separation of church and state says that government shall not designate an official state religion. There was no attempt by the Missoula County school board to designate an official state religion.
Case closed. Merry Christmas.
These damned atheistic libtards are so incredibly pathetic ...
Missoula is a boil on the arse of a pretty conservative state.
Complaining can also be a form of bullying.
Sher is, and we're gonna bless the crap outa ya. (How else is it going to happen?)
FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME:
Nothing in the Constitution specifies separation of church and state!
The first amendment says, pretty clearly: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion...
That's it! There's no law MANDATING YOU to celebrate Christmas.
Really? Really? Oh, THANK YOU! /s
They would have all stroked out had they attended the Christmas concert at my daughter's (public) high school last night.
The first piece the chorus sang was a "Medley of Hymns and Carols."
I happen to believe that “mega mosques” are a form of bullying.
Anonymous letter. If you are so proud of standing up for everyone, make yourselves be known, stop hiding!!
I wonder if these “parents” actually have kids in that school.
Great point. Remember the father that sued the school, saying his daughter complained about the Pledge of Allegiance and having to say, ‘under God’?
Turns out, the daughter didn’t complain after all. The father was an athiest and lied to get standing before the Supreme Court.
Banning Christian culture and expression from “diversity” is tolerant and not bullying. Liberals make me sick. What liars.
If the letter was anonymous, how do they know it was from Montana parents? And, barring actual identification of someone “with standing” to complain, why doesn’t the school simply declare that anonymous complaints are the epitome of bullying and tell the writers to go copulate themselves?
Frosty the Snowman offends me......
Did the parents move to Montana from CA, OR, or the Northeast?
Atheists ruin everything, and in general, are just horrible.
These people are offended by anything and everything. If they had their way, all European culture would be removed from the classroom since all the Renaissance artists began their painting, composing, etc. using religious subjects for their art work.
So we must no longer talk about Michelangelo, Raphael, J. B. Bach, Handel, etc. as it might offend someone. Hide your kids when the Sistine Chapel is studied in Art History class.
I thought Montana was a Red state, are liberals taking over Montana too?
Jesus offended people when He was here because He is the truth. If He wasn’t offensive to pagans, He wouldn’t be God. Offend on!
I keep wondering whether or not the Second Civil War will occur in my lifetime. One thing for sure: It’s coming.
“Complaining can also be a form of bullying.”
Especially anonymous complaining; bullying coward(s).
Maybe school districts should shut down for the entire month of December.
